They both look like they have been living the good life, belly full of pheasant, rabbits and deer bits, just as well you fed them with the .223 ?

A quick mooch after a phone call of the farmer !

Cracking shot with the small but mighty hmr ?? -
There’s loads of them around here, the lad across the road from me has a really old lamby, in the summer they go over to Whitby in convoy over the moor road, it’s been a few years since I had a bike, but when I had my KTM 690 supermoto it used to be a bit of fun seeing if you could blow them off the road ?

I love the coast when it’s like that, sat in the motor on the front at saltburn just watching the sea, happy times ? it’s was lovely up at the shoot when the sun came out and there’s still a bit of heat in it but as soon as it went in it turned into a different day

Winter ? is definitely on the way, when I got there just before 9 you could see it had been cold over night and I had to get the winter coat out, there’s a lot of birds around the farm but at the minute they are not straying to far during the day, I’ve moved some feeders further out and also put a couple out that I know the deer can knock the tops off ( before Hugo’s dad arrived) to get at the wheat, as me and FH might be having a trip up there next weekend for the fallow ? ( but I’ll keep that to myself) after feeding we walked the boundaries, not seeing a lot of birds which was good, little

No, not yet but it’s due, it was freezing in the wind, I think if it hadn’t been so windy there would of been a proper frost, I’m just about to go up and feed, you can normally tell how cold it’s been by how many birds are still around the roost waiting for food

If they are wood ducks he wants to keep it quite or he will be swarmed with RSPB nut jobs
-
Wood duck (male)
-
They are all big and shoutie but he soon hopped back over the fence and carried on walking ? by the way I’ve had your estranged joiner round, he said he can do the job in about half an hour then spent an hour talking and said he’d come back and do it next week, if he stopped talking he could of done it then, I had to have a lay down after he left ?
-
Orrr, ain’t it sweet ?

Most keepers I’ve had dealings have been spot on, but this fella is a complete plank, we’ve caught him dogging birds in off our land, walking one of our drives through, bombing around our shoot on his quad and god knows what else when no one is looking, it almost came to blows last year over the way he spoke to the old girl at the farm, with a bit of luck his boss will of sorted him out, I haven’t seen him over the summer so as long as he keeps it that way he’ll get to keep his pretty smile
-
Is he sure they are wood ducks, they are rare, the mandarin looks similar and is more common, ether way as far as I know you can’t shoot wood ducks or mandarins
-
You had a better night than me, got up the shoot and waited 10 minutes for Hugo’s dad to turn up, he has served his centrefire ban so I decided to let him shoot, we headed over the far side setting the caller away with pheasant distress, 10 minutes in and a fox was seen crossing the field at a little under 200 yards I lit it up, he then said turn the light off, which I did and said what’s up, he said, I’ll try and get it closer. No chance it was trotting off across the field, I lit it up again but by this time it had reached the hedge back and slipped through never to be seen again ? we moved

WoW, I can’t compete with that, it puts the lefty racism’s I face on a daily basis into perspective ??
-
I think they were about 12 quid a 100
-
I asked if the .243 rounds were made of silver because I don’t have wear wolves ? where I shoot so lead would do me just fine, at £35 I won’t be chucking them at anything but foxes
-
On another note, I popped into the gun shop on the way home, 100 .17hmr, 100 .22 and 20 fox rounds for the .243, I almost fell over when he said 79 quid, we settled on £70 but still, at that price I better not miss

Thread back on track back up at the shoot this morning, a bit of hand feeding wheat around the pens and a few feed areas, the birds are moving out around the shoot and autumn is definitely here, the leaves ? are changing and coming off the trees and with the rain and the temperature it was almost like a winters day, back up tonight on fox patrol so we’ll see if anything comes of that ?

LEFTY LIVES MATTER, we are a proud people, persecuted for our wonky lefty ways ?

Are you mocking my man boobs, my little Welsh sheep botherer ?
-
Cheers for that, that looks like something that’s right up my street, I think after the shooting season I might have a go at that, I’ve think I’ve seen them when I was working up at chopgate on our side of the hill

I’m not to bad with some reclaimed sandstone dwarf walls and I can lay blocks for steps and beds, I’d like to learn how to do it properly, I watched a bloke build a slate wall, now that’s a proper skill
-
Put a grass path in going out the garden on a bank, looks really good but completely impractical, steps might of been a better idea, but the customer is always right apparently ?
-
Customer is over the moon, tomorrow’s job is to fence around the top of the wall to close it in and make it a private space, I think that will transform it again, especially if they let me paint it dark gray to match the windows and slate roof on the house ?
