Cheers for that, I’ve not been doing this to long so I’ll happily suck as many eggs as I need to ( go on Ben you know you want to ? )
-
Hopefully they will be ok, they are on something similar to avtec I think it’s avipro, I’ve got the medicated pellets a few normally get gapes so we tend to put them out after a week or so, everyone ( mainly Hugo’s dad ) flaps about them when they first go in but they usually come good, they are up on roost already so if the pens get to paddled up then we’ll probably lift the wire a bit earlier than normal, this is the first time we have had the birds off this supplier and they are a good size
-
Well it’s a different day today, the rain stopped around 5am and now we have clear blue sky, the place is saturated with a forecast of more rain tomorrow, we’ll have to keep an eye on them over the next day or two they may need to go on the medicated
-
God I hope so, they need some sun on their backs, the second pen isn’t as bad as the other but it’s still not good, on the up side I haven’t found any dead ?
-
Oh dear, the birds have been in less than 48 hours and it’s never stopped raining since yesterday afternoon, they are looking a bit sorry for themselves but are still active and taking feed and shelter, the first pen I’ve come to is already starting to get paddled up, if this rain keeps on like it’s ment to then they will have to be out these pens
-
I like the sounds of it all, because when you can hear them you know you are away from people, possibly my favourite it woodcock flighting out to feed, they sound like little flying pigs to me ?
-
No one wants to see badgers wiped out but they should be controlled, over population of any animal is never a good thing ( humans are a prime example of that ) I have some land that I won’t shoot foxes on because they are not there in large numbers and it would be a terrible shame to never see another fox, the badger has become an apex predator and allowing it to breed without control will only have a detrimental effect on the countryside, off the top of my head the only animal I can think of that I’d like to see wiped out is the grey tree rat
-
Do you model their footwear range ?
-
I think I would of let it go, it’s earned it’s freedom I wouldn’t of told anyone, I would of said I necked it in front of another one so it could see what was about to happen to it ?
-
Obviously you ??
-
Handsome fella ?
-
Very dangerous people, they have no idea about the management of this land and all they see is someone’s shooting fluffy. The people carrying out this work should be able to do so safely but due to people’s incompetence they now have the worry of some nut job turning up at their home
-
Yeah, on the rabbits with the .22 or .17 he’s a cracking shot put a fox in front of him and I don’t know what happens to him, I think it’s a mixture of excitement and not wanting to fluff it in front of me, he just needs to calm down and take his time
-
Yep, I’ve taken it off him, to be fair to him he knew his mistake and the follow up shot was very quick, but at that distance there should be no need for that
-
Dog cub, approximately 70 yards and still took two shots ?
-
Back up on fox patrol, hopefully we will dodge the rain as we came into the field we were greeted by a jet black fallow pricket, 10 minutes of calling and fox down, now I let Hugo’s dad take it and true to form it needed two because he back ended it ? I’ve just sent him to get it
-
We are right on the top so most of it is quite flat with some gutters, we have created a couple of drives where we lift the birds early and stand the guns about 400 yards away and if the wind is right they take some hitting ?
-
We are a bit further into the moors than stokesley, if you went on the moor road through stokesley towards Rosedale and went through Helmsley, that’s about where we are on a clear day I can see Helmsley from the back of our shoot ?
-
Fences on, feeders out and water on, all ready for the birds arrival at 6am Tuesday, the supplier has promised they will be box up on the morning and not done the night before oh yeah, and this little bugger has done my head in today, naughty little boy ?
-
Glad you like them, the way this weather has changed from last week you will be needing them before winter ??
-
Another little tweek to the pens drinker system, I only want to see happy birds getting shot this season ?
-
That is exactly how I think I look ?
-
Who you calling a weirdo, I’m normal, it’s everyone else who has a problem ?
-
I was out in the field with my top off until half 10, it was that hot, just as well I’m there on my own, because no one needs to see that ?
-
So I’ve called it a night, I seen another two but one was behind a wire fence and disappeared into the wheat and the other was across a road and would it heck cross it, it’s almost a shame I can’t take anyone with me, but those are the rules and there’s a good reason for that, I can’t wait to get on once the wheat is down, oh and the amount of jackdaws are crazy ?
