We are starting a bit later this season with our 1st day on the 7th of November, so they still have another 5 weeks ish to bulk up, they were looking well today making the most of the sun after 24 hours of rain, they are moving out around the shoot and all the feeders are out where we want them. We are only using 2 pens this year and they are quite close, over the past few weeks the pen known as forestry has been light on birds where as the pen known as Gordon’s has far more than normal for this time of year and after today I now know why, bloody forestry workers have their huts near our pen a

There’s definitely not as many dead on the roads around our shoot, most of the private shoots haven’t let as many birds off if any, if anyone has found a way to teach them road sense let me know, they are the sheep of the bird world, always looking for a way to die, thick as sh*t

Looking ok towards the end of next week, it’s never let up all day, shame I was looking forward to it
-
That’s a very kind off and I may take you up on that the idea of another.243 is not a bad one at all, it’s always been a favourite ?
-
Me and FH were meant to be out after the fallow tomorrow but it’s looking like a washout
-
I was using a PBIR laser tonight, it took me ages to work out that I had it mounted to far back and was getting bounce back when I first put it on, I’ve used loads of different nv’s but this is the first time I’ve owned one, I think once I’ve played with it a bit more I’ll get used to it and once I’ve put it on another rifle and got the vortex back on the .243 I’ll be even happier

A good evening out Bernard, A ginger retrieved and back home before a proper soaking, it’s just started up here and it’s looking like I’ll be cabined up for the next 24 hours

For what it’s worth here’s the stav review. ( I didn’t see any foxes ) It works best on x12 mag, is it as good as the digex? No, but that is a full NV scope and the sightmark is far better than the digex in daylight, it took a bit of getting used to, it works best out to about 150, you can pick up eye shine way beyond that but going up above x16 it does become fuzzy, as an entry level NV at £600 I don’t think there’s anything better on the market, I’d like to try a couple of different ir’s to see if they are any different, would I recommend it? Yes, it does what it’s meant to do ?

So people keep telling me, I’ve used a few but for me I’d always pick .243 over it and for a dedicated fox rifle I really like 22-250, I’d quite like a 338 lapua for foxing but I don’t think they’d let me have one ?
-
That’s what I was looking at today or dare I say it a .223, if people I know hear that I’ll never hear the end of it because I’ve always said I’d never have one ?
-
Yeah, very similar in terms of mag and clarity, just my opinion but I would say the pard is better suited to rimfires, one thing I like about the sightmark is there’s no built in ir but that’s just a little thing that bugs me because the ir’s are never capable of what the scopes are, even the pard with its alleged illegal ir

Yeah, it be cheap, by the time I put the long mount on ( which it needs ) and a piccy rail on, it came to just under 700 quid
-
I don’t know how his videos are so bad, it has a focus ring on the front and if you turn it it brings it into focus really quickly ?
-
It does look quite far back but once you have the rifle mounted if anything it could come another half inch back, I’ve had a go with it in day mode and the clarity up to x16 mag is superb, it gets a little bit fuzzy above that, it’s very simple to use which is ideal for a simpleton like me, I’m going to my secret permission tonight to see how it is in the dark, so far I’m impressed with it, but it is bloody ugly
-
Well it certainly isn’t pretty but I bit the bullet so to speak and put a sightmark wraith on the .243, I was going for the pulsar digex but after playing with them both I couldn’t justify 600 quid more for the digex, so the plan is to save a bit more and buy another rifle just for the foxes and put the wraith on that and put the vortex back on the .243 ?
-
They both look like they have been living the good life, belly full of pheasant, rabbits and deer bits, just as well you fed them with the .223 ?

Cracking shot with the small but mighty hmr ?? -
There’s loads of them around here, the lad across the road from me has a really old lamby, in the summer they go over to Whitby in convoy over the moor road, it’s been a few years since I had a bike, but when I had my KTM 690 supermoto it used to be a bit of fun seeing if you could blow them off the road ?
-
I love the coast when it’s like that, sat in the motor on the front at saltburn just watching the sea, happy times ? it’s was lovely up at the shoot when the sun came out and there’s still a bit of heat in it but as soon as it went in it turned into a different day
-
Winter ? is definitely on the way, when I got there just before 9 you could see it had been cold over night and I had to get the winter coat out, there’s a lot of birds around the farm but at the minute they are not straying to far during the day, I’ve moved some feeders further out and also put a couple out that I know the deer can knock the tops off ( before Hugo’s dad arrived) to get at the wheat, as me and FH might be having a trip up there next weekend for the fallow ? ( but I’ll keep that to myself) after feeding we walked the boundaries, not seeing a lot of birds which was good, little

No, not yet but it’s due, it was freezing in the wind, I think if it hadn’t been so windy there would of been a proper frost, I’m just about to go up and feed, you can normally tell how cold it’s been by how many birds are still around the roost waiting for food
-
If they are wood ducks he wants to keep it quite or he will be swarmed with RSPB nut jobs

Wood duck (male)

They are all big and shoutie but he soon hopped back over the fence and carried on walking ? by the way I’ve had your estranged joiner round, he said he can do the job in about half an hour then spent an hour talking and said he’d come back and do it next week, if he stopped talking he could of done it then, I had to have a lay down after he left ?
-
Orrr, ain’t it sweet ?
