  1. Remmy Your 'avin a larf with me....... "like shooting an air rifle" ...now..... first off I haven't the first clue about loading...and even if we could find a legal way of getting some of these air rifle .243 rounds across the border I don't have the .243 to test them in anymore, that went today, remember I said it was going. However my .308 DOES kick, can you turn that into an Air rifle...and what if anything is available for my girlie little .223? Cheers Deker I can't see.... but please don't tell me thats the 5.5-22x56NXS or I may go a shade of green
  2. Ok...personal view.... a .25 FAC air rifle will cost a fortune and be of very little use. A 12ft lb .25 is a superb ratting gun but thats about it! If you want something with more power that hits harder just get a .22 rimmy and use shorts/long/shotshells/or subs (will give you about 30ft lb upwards). This will give you a lot of scope, be far more consistant than a .25air rifle and of course cost a hell of a lot less!

Oi...give it a rest...you trying to take over...only been on the site 5 minutes and 11 post already!!!!!!! And whilst most peoples 12ft lb guns are not quite there, when you are only talking 12ft lb, 10 is a big % short, nevertheless, and in principle you should be able to do anything with 10 that you can with 12, but 12 is a little easier. Anyway, I don't get the chance to shoot many pigs but I get an adequate supply of squirrel, rabbit, deer (even fox - hey do I know...stew??? )...you have any interest in a bit of trading? PM me if you want a chat. Cheers Deker PS
  4. If you want to shoot rats for a bit of fun or even professionally almost any .22 calibre multishot at full 12ft lb power will do, hollow point are best, then wadcutter then domed. If you are really serious about stopping rats with an air rifle you will need a Theoben Rapid in .25 with a 12 shot mag running at 12ft lb. The smaller calibres, the .177, the .20 and even the .22 will commonly go clean through and ratty will often run away to die in your drains etc. The .25 hits like an express train and ratty rolls over dead. Problem is the .25 has an arc like a rainbow so you really need to k
  5. The above that i cut was from a current legal database and that is the current legislation regarding section 1 firearms and ammunition and as you can see the definition it gives seems to include the shotshells mentioned as not being section 1 ammo.....................therefore not requiring a FAC to purchase/possess Compo This is an interesting question and as I admitted I don't know the answer. I also appreciate your response and I'm not disputing it at all..... BUT, an awful lot of the 68 is now dead and buried...are you sure this bit is still current...don't get me wrong, I'm
  6. F*cked Up Beyond All Recognition(Spelling) Them mags are the dogs danglies, how much you selling them for,if you decide to sell some?. FUBAR Thats one of a couple of minor variations of the phrase....but now you've let everyone join the club!!!
  7. i take my hat of to u woodga would love to have ground that holds that amount of rabbits, I think that says it all, most reasonably fit people with a bit of knotted string and a couple of polecats could get hundreds of rabbits ....IF THE LAND HAD THEM! This is a great thread, with great pics and comments but big bags can only ever happen if a number of circumstances come together. Now, I don't ferret but I have people I use if I need them, I'm a shooter, and been doing if for 35 years, up until recently the best I'd ever done with squirrels was about 10 or 12 in a day. Th
  8. I don't know..you boys..far to much time on your hands, how's the ferrets, you got a 4x4 yet? (how's Dad?) Deker
  9. You are a brave man..try saying that on the Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control forum ...and then duck! the rat popultion in greater london alone is appx 8000.000 so if they know someting the home office does'nt, tell em to get in touch. im sure their ideas would be welcome. Now you are getting a little silly and showing your nievety, we are talking pig farm according to you and I suspect the original post was not referring to London. Regardless of that I and many many others could eradicate the rat from yours and any other farm. If you want to be stupid I could also
  10. Looks like you could do with some help....perhaps I need to come and see you sooner rather than later....How are the Fox and Deer your way...(what sort of Deer do you have down there)...OH YES... do you have any Hare? The only place Hare appear in Berkshire is in peoples immagination. Cheers Deker
  11. Mixxy is evil and I don't remember the last year I didn't see a case. It also tends to come and go quite quickly and often with devastating results. I have only seen Mixxy on 2 of my sites this year and my rabbit total for the year to date is 564, but there are a lot less of them about now as you would expect. Deker
  12. Come on Sprags/Compo I'm waiting for the next installment. I'll be honest, off the top of my head I don't know the answer to this one, the 68 Act still forms the basis of current legislation but there has been a bucket load of changes to it since, so if you 2 could sort it out between you it will save me looking it all up. Cheers Deker One point of interest is that under the 68 Act you did not need a SGC to buy Shotgun cartridges (or FAC) anyone could walk in off the street and buy them.
  13. Thanks for the advice, I thought it would be a really heavy interview type thing.....dosent sound to bad Edit> Whist I am here.....Any ideas as to how long it will take from sending the application to being told yes/no? In VERY SIMPLE terms in this country you are allowed a shotgun (SGC), the Police must show a reason why you can't have one. The FAC is completely reversed..you are not allowed one until you can show why you need/want one! VERY SIMPLE explaination. Time wise it's impossible to say and many regions have been slow this year, could be anything from
  14. Not a stupid question at all! Its like a shotgun cartridge with loads of small pellets, as soon as they leave the confines of the barrel they spread and will potentially blow your moderator to pieces, worst case senario of course but I suspect you get the idea! Even if only one lump ever hits the mod the odds are your zero and mod are FUBAR. Cheers Deker
  15. I suspect he was suggesting Ballistic Tip. Boat Tail is the other end of the bullet and is meant to give long range stability. A Boat Tail will have very little or absolutely nothing to do with "over" penetration, thats to do far more with the other end, FMJ, HP, Soft Point etc etc are all available with boat tail if you dig around! I suspect you either just grazed this one or very likely couldn't find it later, its amazing how easy it is to lose a rabbit or fox when its down, and I spent about 10 minutes looking for a Roe a couple of years ago that droped on the spot.
  16. Probably why do you want a gun and where will you be using it etc.....its not really an interview (well mine wasn't) just a chat, he saw my dogs and ferrets and understood what kind of bloke i was, its just to make sure your not a complete loon really. SGC is easy compared to FAC. The home visit will simply be to make sure you're not some sort of unstable nutter, and check your security for the SG, despite the fact that legally for up to 2 Shotguns you can use a ground anchor they will expect to see a cabinet so I strongly suggest you invest in one of those. Offer him a tea or cof

  18. Sako owns Tikka and both are owned by Beretta. So the background and pedigree is good. I think too many people get wound up in this quad business...just think about it for a minute! How many people have/want or need a .22LR, a .17HMR, .22WMR and .17Mach 2. And then consider what sort of case would you have to put to your FLO for a ticket for all 4. Just consider it as a single calibre rifle, the vast majority of people buy a Sako quad as .22LR anyway. If you want another calibre at some stage by all means go for it, but then also consider the scope (as has already been said), and r
  19. In simple terms they are a minature shotgun cartridge, but rim fire not centrefire. In the UK they tend to be used by Pest Controllers and gamekeepers, in the US they are commonly used on snakes. They tend to be low power and only very close range, they have no effect on your rifling but if you do find some or want to try them make sure you take your Sound Moderator Off first!
  20. Deben used to do a shotgun fitting for their Tracer gunlight range..worth checking out!

In my 12ftlb pcp,any of the heavier pellets will produce higher ftlbs readings, but in my springers the reverse is true. Deker,as you say a .22 pellet with a muzzle reading of 780FPS would be 27.02 ftlbs. if you re-read my post i said that a .22 pellet weighing 18-20grains traveling at 780fps gives you about 26ftlbs. this is the point that most experts, not me believe to be the cross over point of the formular of weight x speed = power i know full well a .22 pellet traveling at 780 fps would be giving 26-30 ftlbs as bill88 has proved. also through my own experiance has show
  22. OK ........an answer you are not going to like! I would go as far as to say you will never STOP rats with a rifle. Control methods are, poison, trapping and a .25 Theoben air rifle or .22Rimmy with shorts or shotshell and a good cat. Using a combination of these you can wipe out the rats but it will still take a lot of doing. Using a conventional air rifle will only ever give you a bit of sport and tend to bring quite a low level of control unless you spend every hour God gives you on the case. There is nothing wrong with the ratcatcher or many other air rifles for the job of
  23. I'm going to bed...I've got a stinking cold, that's why I'm not out shooting at the moment,...... but just had a look on the Midlanddiving.com website (first time for years) and see they do complete Air rifle packages, bottle, valve and hose...with any luck your dealer should be able to offer the same (if you need it all). Many dealers use Midland themselves anyway! Cheers Deker
  24. For the sake of a safety (I didn't even know they didn't have one) I would not bother. The HW100 is a fine gun but it weighs a ton, you may like that but I don't, build is typically german overengineered, yes you can chuck it about but who does anyway and I don't see it performing any better than your 410. Unless there is more to this story I would stick with what you have. With regard to the pump...bin it and spend the money you would have spent on the gun buying a bottle. No idea if the connections are the same but you should get an adaptor with the gun anyway!
