  1. Their rimfires offer unmatched choice and excellent value for money. There centrefires are far from market leaders, offer little advantage on the financial side, and are probably several places down the league! Deker
  2. If your figures are correct and you find an officious copper and court you will go to prison for 5 years, assuming of course its not on a FAC. Take it back and get it properly checked/adjusted. It is possible you are correct but a little unlikely, just remember both the manufacturer and dealer are also potentially in a lot of trouble if they have supplied you a tool over 12 ft lb. Hence why most manufacturers check before they ship! Air Arms/Falcon/NSP are all made in the same place, I know it well and the people, they may have cocked up, we all make mistakes sometimes. Deker
  3. We did used to have a dog licence but so many people never bothered to pay they gave up with the idea. Today, certain dogs are banned and we have things such as the dangerous dogs act, and special licences are required for keeping certain animals in the UK. This will never stop people flouting the law or animal cruelty. Murder is illegal almost all over the world, but it doesn't stop it happening!
  4. I would tend to agree, many of the tools mentioned so far here are not exactly light. 12 year olds are getting bigger these days but the last thing you want is his arms falling off after walking the fields for an hour or 2. The Lightening and S200 are good tools , check out the Gamo range as well (Gamo & BSA are more than a little in bed together these days). Lots of good second hand kit about as well. All this is still going to be a very personal choice, but I would suggest you stay away from the £30 full power precision hunting equipment complete with scope etc etc ...........M
  5. Red would be the standard suggestion, but I find they cut down the beam range quite considerably. Dimmer units help! Rabbits behave differently and learn quickly on different pieces of land so there will be no "right" answer to this question. Also, don't shoot at the same time every day, try shooting at different times of day/night. The real answer is of course nightvision, but I have been shooting 35 years and I'm still saving up......don't be tempted to buy one of the early Gen 1 versions unless you only EVER want to shoot out to 20-30 yards. Moonlight and starlight do just as well and
  6. Cheers If covers everything I tell the Police anyway but its the first time I've ever seen an "official" form. Fortunately I have an Open ticket (FAC) so I don't have to keep talking to the police about new land, just give them a long list every five years...seems to keep them happy. Thanks again. Deker
  7. If your going to carry out the removel of foxes why go for a fac you just aswell apply for your ticket & get a .243 with moderator on it Thats the bit I don't understand....I think you will find he will need a FAC before anyone sells him a .243 (legally).
  8. What is this???? Is this something you have put together or is it a copy of some official form. I have never seen an OFFICIAL landowners permission form to accompany a FAC application in 35 years of applying? Cheers Deker
  9. You do not need written permission for a FAC. If you wish to put your job forward as a reason for a FAC you will have to show reason why you need it for your job. "You may want to start your own business sometime in the future" is not likely to get you a FAC. You can of course join a rifle club and then potentially apply for a variation of use for "vermin control" at a later date. That will at least get you used to the tool and build up "background" for the police. All Police regions look at this a bit differently so the best suggestion is to simply ask them. Deker (Don't quite unde
  10. It could be the "batch" of cartridges as 32's should work fine, this gun is designed to work down to 24! My first guess is a good clean, its a real pain to do the job well on these as the gas residues gets everywhere and get well burnt on if you don't clean them regularly. It takes me 10-20 minutes to give my 686 a good clean but can easily take a hour to do the job on my 391. It could well take you a couple of hours if you have not done it for a long time. Once clean smear all the internal surfaces with gun oil, but just so you can feel it, DO NOT SOAK the surfaces with oil as there
  11. Impossible to say, whilst there are guidelines on this all Police forces interpret them in their own way. Your best bet is to simply ring your local firearms officer/department and ask them! There is also an appeal option remember! Deker
  12. LOL LOL LOL The guy knows his stuff, he was the ben in Theoben.
  13. Name, address and tel number of the owner, address of the land if different. That's all you need but they love to see a written permission! In simple terms make their life as easy as possible, give them every bit of info you can, details of size, neighbourhood, topography, how long you have been shooting there, site plans if you can and or aerial photos, (multimap, emap, etc), and what you intend to shoot there. If you can, find out if the land has any existing approval! Continue on another piece of paper if necessary! (I have never seen or used a special landowners form, if on
  14. OK ...do you have one and if so what ft lb do you get from yours? It is meant to be 12 but my lad has just bought one and the best I can get after trying 11 types of pellets is 10.2ft lb. Short of buying a full tuning kit does anyone have any ideas how I can get this to about 11.8. Cheers Deker
  15. But he has built up a reputation formerley being half of Theoben, so......!!!
  16. Difficult this one......Tasco make/MADE some ok scopes, I don't know this one specifically but I would suggest something a little better on a .308. You also say 1000 yards...are you talking game or target, either way at that distance I would consider something more powerful than 9! My .22LR has a 3-12 on it and on Short Siberia (200yards) I usually wind that up to 10. My .308 has a 6.5-26 and whilst I often use it close to the bottom end I find I also use it a lot at 12-14 for both target and hunting up to about 250 yards! Deker
  17. DS I shall probably end up with a CZ American (WOOD). My .22LR and .223 are both black synthetic and I like them very much, but I like my wood as well! Ever since Sako finished the finnfire and brought in the quad I've gone off them, and the Anschutz is too heavy for me. Don't want a Ruger, Savage or Marlin. Cheers Deker
  18. Heart of Wales Me again, it's my 17HMR I am selling!!!! At the moment that sits between my .22LR and my .223. There is no doubt that it is fast and flat and has its uses out to about 150 yards but it does tail off quickly after this and being so light is easily bent out of shape. (And why the f**k is the ammo so expensive and difficult to find these days) The .22 magnum is not as fast or flat, but its not bad, it is much heavier and more powerful, arrives with a bigger thump and is less easily upset by the wind etc., and still works well out to 150yards or more. Ammo is cheape
  19. Yes mine is FAC running at 26ft lb. Zero is 40yards, and at that range I can empty a magazine (8 shot) into a 1p piece with Air Arms Field, 30-50 yards just aim and it hits, I can regularly take bunnies and squirrels to 60 yards. Still produces 12ft lb at 100 yards. I have heard about the Air Ranger and ft lb. To be honest I cannot see any point in pushing it anywhere close to that, there are only a handful of pellets you could use, (Dai Sung 28.5g, Eley Magmum 30g, H & N Rabbit Magnum 30g, RWS CA707 28.5g, (Daystate) Magnum bullets 40g, Varminter H.P. bullets 39.5g). All thes
  20. Agree with everything Macnas said. Think he has just about said it all but the choice of guns is also far more limited than 12g. That now makes the set of 4 flags....... Deker
  21. They have all come from a country park, or to be accurate, only around 25 acres of the park, I'm working my way around it. Its owned by the council and they gave me a call about their grey problem. After 4 visits , site survey, risk assessments, ariel and ground plans, and meetings with the top people they actually agreed to shooting. We have had to cordon off areas of the park and close them to the public whilst I go about my work. I had another 26 yesterday and 13 today so now it is 171 in 5 visits. I started in the area I knew was worst effected but would expect to be somewhere
  22. That seems a sensible option. Alternatively go for a higher velocity copper coated. That should go through quite cleanly (although it will tend to do more meat damage), and should leave no lead. Downside is ammo is more expensive and makes more noise. I think you may be a little too cautious though, people have been shi**ing out lead pellets from game birds, etc for well over 100 years, and whilst we all know lead is not good for you it has not been banned yet! Deker
  23. This is an old chestnut that I am asked about a lot. John and the BASC have it right. The simple fact is, that there is nothing illegal at all about shooting within 50ft of the highway with any tool (discharging fireworks also count) unless it causes a problem. That is what the law says! The sensible approach is of course to stay away from roads if at all possible but if not be very careful. Exactly the same approach should be adopted for footpaths, bridleways etc or for any plonker who simply wants to stroll accross your shoot. Deker
  24. I feel honoured that my humble efforts have been noted by member No1. Cheers Deker
  25. These guys are all good blokes, I have bought stuff from all of them, fortunately Andy is only about 10 miles from me but I see him a lot at Bisley anyway. If you have a decent "buy" and "hold" on your certificate it is worth travelling to see some of them as their ammo prices can save you a fortune. Deker
