I think it is well known how bad these are reputed to be BUT..is that your experience I refer specifically to the Rim fire?

The 452 and the trigger...well we all know and have heard so much. I am really curious because I too have spent many years in a NSRA club, in the team and as coach. Now the NRA where I am Secretary of my club. During my 35 plus years shooting I must have fired way over 100 rifles. Years ago I had a BRNO and the trigger was great. More recently I have purchased a CZ 452 Silhouette (NEW) and the trigger is brilliant. Now...I have not taken it apart and checked and I have heard tales of some RFD's changing the trigger as they arrive but mine is brilliant. When my new Tikka arrived

Public Confrontation, Ramblers etc
Deker replied to a topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
I think JohnGalway has it pretty close. I have lots of land but I don't own any of it. So first thing I always do if I think there is ANY likely hood of coming into contact with Joe Public is call the Police and get a URN. A lot of people do this but most seem to do it on a visit for visit basis, a URN can last up to 3 months so just make sure you tell the police you will be shooting throughout that time...easy. I have footpaths, rights of way bridleways over loads of land and fairly commonly come into contact with the public. They tend to either be very quiet and hurry away o -
All i want for xmas is a .223
Deker replied to bunnyspotter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If £1500 is your budget for everything (gun, scope, mounts, moderator, bipod, slip, sling etc) and you are looking new then Sako may be a problem, although it would be my personal first choice. At the moment my finances do not allow it, but I have the Tikka T3 Lite stainless in .223. Tikka is owned by Sako and the Tikka has a Sako barrel (as a matter of interest Beretta own them both). Tikka offer a wide range, are far more reasonably priced than Sako and personally I think you will find them hard to beat. £1500 will buy you a very acceptable Tikka package. Deker -
CZ introduced a 16" barrel option on some of their models a year or two back. Almost everyone has them cut down is for practical/manouverability reasons. The difference in power and accuracy will be very small cut down, so as long as the job is done "professionally" enjoy! Deker

thanks for replying maybe i should check out the cz before i make a decision UK Importers: http://www.edgar-brothers.co.uk/ORIGINAL_SITE/ Main CZ site: http://www.czub.cz/

I asked a similar question a few months ago when my lad was after a 17HMR Synthetic Savage. I got very little response (but that was on another site). I also got in touch with Savage via their website requesting a brochure etc....... I'm still waiting. So I'm no expert on Savage but after seeing and touching a few my lad settled on a CZ Style. Savage did have some interesting woodwork on some models though which CZ could not match. So it's a personal opinion, I have a CZ Silhouette as well. Savage has been around a while and I have never heard anything BAD, but then again I h

sorry john a .22lr would be fine for me and i can start my young lad off with it in a later time.cheers sounder Sounder Don't want to burst your bubble but Tikka don't do anything in .22lr. But the T3 lite is a very good gun. Deker

Sorry for my poorly worded statement, I know exactly what you mean about being real rifles. At the time I could not think of another descriptive. Cheers for your advice, and yes I seem to be ok with regards to land as there is approx 40 acres (maybe less, but not much). Would police be happy with this amount? I spoke to the license department earlier on today with regards to referees and the women I spoke to there said they would much rather I get a neighbor who knows me well rather than my doctor who does not know me. Also I asked about criminal record and she said declare everything an

.243 Probably ---- although it's not the most common calibre for target. If you have land permission with deer and some deer experience and/or a DSC1 you may get a .243 for deer. You will NOT get a .243 for Target shooting unless you are a member of an approved club, as a member of an approved club you will become a member of the NRA because the NRA are doing all the ranges these days not the MOD. Think about a .223, that is fine for fox, small deer and target and may just be a little easier to get than a .243, you are never going to get a 22-250 for target as it exceeds the s

Silver Just so long as you know what you are doing on the calibers, you are obviously one step ahead of most who, believing the bullet is identical in size seem to just assume the whole cartridge will be. (that could be a very painful and costly mistake) Take nothing away from Peter Lawman but if you get the chance go and see Peter Starley (Black Powder/Midway), he has a cracking gaff and Rangerover! Both these guys are good, most RFD are, but you are right..call first to make sure they have the stock and are available to see you. The price of their ammo would, in many cases make it w

Flippin 'ek!!! That Bedlington has some amazing figures attached to it. Anyway ...I feel much better today, so as long as the weather holds I'm off to keep my ever demanding Game dealer happy this afternoon, so no more sad questions for a while. Thanks for the responses by the way. Deker

Saturn Lord B Fox hunting lisence? No, def not! Legal to shoot deer? Yes 100%, in season and with an approved calibre rifle subject to permisions etc..... The CZ, great rifle for the money. There are better out there, Anchutz etc, but for this money you won't beat the CZ. I personally would go with the standard wooden varmint as oposed to synth but that is a personal choise. Lord B Absolutely correct, up until August 1st 2007 you did also need a Game Licence to shoot deer but that is now abolished! There are also situations where you can take deer out of season and at

.177 for targets tell that to the rabbits, squirrels, pigeons, rats ,magpies, and everything else ive shot its a personal prefferance but ive shot .22 for nearly 20 yrs and ive just recently brought a .177 (8 months ago ) and i will never buy a .22 again but the rest of your advice isnt far off the mark. Didn't I say someone would shout... it's the general rule, simple as that you are allowed to aim .22 at a target and .177 at quarry...lets not confuse it even more by mentioning .20 or .25 eh!

shotgun licensing help!!
Deker replied to Brothers Born To Hunt's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
what about your own land by myself? Hell..... I should know, but I think you will find it's actually 18 now....... your land or not you must be 18 to go out on your own. Up until then you can hold a FAC and SGC but you cannot buy the guns or ammo yourself and must be accompanied when you are out. Someone will no doubt have the information at their fingertips and post it up but I think the 17 is now history. Cheers Deker -
Probably a bit sad (no actually very sad, but I've got a stinking cold, the weather is terrible and I'm not going out for a day or two yet ...so....) I just saw on Gamekeeping & Conservation the "catapults" thread. Some interesting stats: Started 29 May 2007 29 Pages 426 replies 20009 viewings does this one take all the records???? Cheers Deker

Basic guidelines (someone will shout at me) .177 is for target .22 is for hunting. With your budget you will only be looking at "springers", there are plenty of Ok-Good ones about, Gamo and BSA are one and the same now but there are many more. Don't be tempted by ANYTHING made in China, they can appear excellent value for money...until you get them out of the box, and most of the Chinese struggle to make 8ft lb. You may also end up with iron sights at that price especially if you are looking at the new market. If you are looking second hand I would have thought that £1

Ok ...sounds like the reticle is stuck BUT.... .......if its new did it come from a shop/dealer or from a market/website? These are distributed in the UK by AGS but they changed their name to Webley earlier this year, but the scopes are ok and competitively priced. It is however, well known that some fakes/immitations/seconds call it what you like make their way to our shores and are commonly available discounted at some "outlets". If it's brand new don't mess about too long just take it back!!

Peterlawman.co.uk Black-powder.co.uk Midwayuk.com These are 2 companies but owned by the same person and sell factory ammo and reloading. I hope you are not bouncing around from 7.62 to .308 in the same chamber.......take a look at this...... http://www3.sympatico.ca/shooters/7_62vs308.htm

Totally Agree.....the PCP (especially as mine is FAC) has made me lazy, but I know it, admit it and accept it. Once or twice a year I get out my old Airsporter but I can't hit a barn door with it anymore, so it's cleaned and oiled and put away again. It's 35 years old but in mint condition. Despite all this I think a 12ft lb springer is not only an excellent tool for teaching every lesson you need for target and hunting but is also a very capable tool. My lad has just bought the Gamo Shadow RSV and takes rabbits with it regularly. I have got a bit lazy and moved on a bit but the spri

I have a Sako 222 and use Sako ammo, ammo a little on the expensive side but with 1/2 inch grouping at 200yds you just dont miss old charlie drops every time the trigger gets pulled. Have put most rounds through the gun with varied results even as bad as 2inch grouping at 100yds if you can call that grouping, but the sako ammo seems to suit my gun. I did think about reloading but doubt I'd be able to achieve the same results. hope that helps I'm impressed ...there are very few people I know that can get 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards with any gun or ammo, including me and I'm f**

CCI Shotshell rimfire round.
Deker replied to mole trapper's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
No luck as yet, rang sportsman who were to busy to talk to me, they promised to ring back and didnt. Will try and find time to ring GMK monday to see if they can tell me anywhere close that they have shipped them to recently. Moletrapper GMK.co.uk Email them.....they will usually get back in a day or two. Federal (GMK) and Winchester also make shotshells (probably a few others as well) Cheers Deker -
One of the joys of making sloe gin is that its EASY. (although pricking those Sloes can drive you mad) I find the cheap gin is very adequate, and the recipe is so easy to play with, adjust the ingredients each year to get your personal favourite texture and flavour. Personally I find a "Young" sloe gin to be a little harsh, limited body and thin colour, I always leave mine fermenting for at least a YEAR, by then the body, flavour, colour is like........... I was just going off on a Jilly/Oz moment then!!!! Anyway ...thats why its so good...we all make it the way we like it!!!!

Make it September/October, whenever the Sloe is ready and leave the fruits in until NEXT christmas (about 14-15 months). Earliest you should remove the fruit is First Christmas (2-3 months). Try it.....First Christmas is ok, but if you can keep your hands off it long enough for next Christmas the difference is well worth the wait. With all the Gin and sugar involved there should not be any problems with anything being bitter unless there is a hygiene problem. Most peoples problem is with it being too sweet, but adjust the recipe a bit each year to your own personal preference! A
