how to prepare the rabbit for curry
Deker replied to markieboi's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
After skinning and cleaning......If you intend to curry/stew/caserole it, you may find it easier to boil it for a while, the meat will tend to come away easier and you may get a little more off each bunny, but as others have said, absolutely no need for this..just cut the meat off normally and cook if you like. Best for eating are the girls about a year old, enjoy! Deker -
Guys....I know I am coming to this one a bit late but unless there have been any changes that I am not aware of the "Police etc" have got this wrong. The common mistake is "Owner"....... Its quite simple really..................... ------------------------------------------------------- Home Office Firearms Law Guidance to Police 2002 Exemptions from the requirement to hold a certificate Shot Guns 1968 Act Section 11(5) of the 1968 Act allows an individual, without holding a shot gun certificate, to borrow a shot gun from the occupier of private premises and use it on

I love the Bisley magnums, but they are heavy and as you say, have an arc like a rainbow sub 12ft lb, get your zero right at short range though and they will be devastating. Cheers John, appreciate the comments. Deker

Will you stop posting pictures of that scope, I go a deeper shade of Green every time I see it. AND...what have you done to the gun, is that before the coat of dulux or have you painted it again? Deker PS..... if anyone is still wondering what to get me for Christmas ...theres a little hint for you!

I think we are singing from the same hymn sheet John. You have obviously got a good understanding of this lot, arc of pellet, Main zero and first zero, parallax, point of impact, terminal ballistic effect, etc but to get back to your original questions...this is a good value well built scope and rarely causes a problem (I could be wrong but I think this carries a REAL LIFETIME guarantee). Shooting your quarry close is a very effective way of stopping them but obviously compensation has to be made in your point of aim (as you know). If you are going to be doing a lot of close range shoot

OK now what does that mean ? I understand the concept of parallax from my physics days so presumably this is to with the relative position of my head on the stock. But how is it 'set' at a distance ? And how does adjusting the ocular focus help ? (that is the eyepiece ?) Ta John Work rounds.... Parallax has to be set somewhere unles you have a fully adjustable parallax. Parallax is an inevitable bi-product of multiple lens placement as in your scope! You cannot adjust the parallax on this scope, it is pre set by Simmons by lens placement internally. It is possible t

Hopefully someone can help me with this one whilst we are here......I am curious to know why so many people seem to suggest a fixed mag scope for deer. Mine is variable mag with sidewheel parallax. On the basis that it is not that uncommon to take deer between 200-400 yards and most fixed scopes are set with a 100 yard parallax I'm not sure how this works out. Are you guys always playing with the ocular focus to get everything sharpe? It's just a question, I have parallax adjustment on all my scopes now and have gradually changed over from fixed to variable mag during the last few year

May not be much difference in some, but all guns, powers and twist rates effect the flight, so does the pellet shape. Mine is running at 26ft lb and AA Field and AA Hunter fly about 4 inches different at 40 yards zero! Dome arrives with more thump, pointed arrives with more penetration! You will also tend to find you get slightly tighter groups with domed! Cheers Deker

Accupells are domed, Powapells are pointed, they fly differently, you would be very well advised to re check your zero! Cheers Deker

I have had 3 scopes from Optics Warehouse, one from the Game Fair about 3 or 4 years ago and 2 mail order. Always good to their word and no problems. Not got a S&B so not in a position to comment directly, but 30mm should make things brighter in principle, and I have "heard" German are meant to better! Deker

It's a SIMMONS WHITETAIL CLASSIC scope, 3.5 - 10 x 50 Excellent robust scope and optics offering very good value for money! Parallax is set at 100 yards for these so you will often have to adjust the ocular focus to get it just right for you! You should not have any problem with zero shift on these, on the whole they are very reliable. Dry firing a PCP should not present any problems. Cheers Deker

I've got the first version (it's a 391) Beretta! Brilliant, but I understand this is another step forward........NOW....if they could only make a self cleaning version!!!! Deker

I have recently damaged the second sound moderator on my Falcon Air Rifle. I actually caught it on a tree trunk which managed to split a seam, and caused point of impact spread all over the place. I contacted John Cooper at Falcon and explained the situation, he immediately offered to put a replacement in the post. It arrived today. It's not often in this day and age you get service like this, so a big thank you to John. Cheers Deker

You seem to have had the advice. My understanding is the T8 is a derivative of a military silencer which was designed as almost a throw away item. It works in so much as is does quieten down your shot, but it is well known for the horrible orange stuff and overall life expectancy is not great! I use ASE which are built like a Brick S**t House on my certrefires, but also weigh a ton...swings and roundabouts! Cheers Deker

Money no object dream rifle
Deker replied to The Sporting Agent's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Probably a Sako 85, the gun will shoot and perform as well or better than I ever could. for large game ie UK deer, wild boar, African game, American bear etc Choosing one calibe ONLY to deal with this lot would have to be .338 Win Magnum! Not too big for UK Deer and Wild Boar but big enough for the rest. Cheers Deker -
Hi John Good quality scopes will hold their zero at all ranges, sometimes, on very cheap scopes you find a bit of zero movement on different magnifications. Close range shots will tend to go clean through a crow, but as the pellet is going faster at close range, the shock wave during penetration will cause more internal damage. Death should be swift as long as you hit the appropriate areas, head or chest are probably favourite. Cheers Deker

I'm a little confused, as far as I can see this is bolting the stable door after the horse has gone...the latest legislation came in on 1 October...what is being debated now. I know there has been talk of airgun grief in Scotland for some time but is that still ongoing, and what has the Scottish parliament got to say about it?
-
snap shot that is good advice and appreciated but would you personally want to shoot at those ranges if you could be squeaking foxes up to 100-130 yds ?then its job done with some in reserve for your more lamp shy buggers I think we are all talking in similar terms here and we all love to bag the very long shots BUT.......shooting is all about taking every advantage you can, the best rifle, the best scope, the best ammo, as much practice a possible, the best support you can get for the shot, and taking the easy shots. Anyone who shoots fox will tell you it is far better to call the

I have a very good idea what has led to this and I've a fair idea where its going! What is an average???? Dogga....sod the average, it doesn't matter if you take them long or short...you take them at the distance you are happy/confident with, and that IS the right distance. Trust me, if someone is telling you 250yards is the Average and 350yards is Normal that is Bullshit. These shots happen but if someone drops a fox at 350 yards it is not normal, they would be jumping up and down all round the pub telling everyone! Whilst these shots and longer do happen, if anyone drops a fox

You don't seriously think you're going to get electrocuted from a 12v battery, do you Deker? How come there's no fuse in a torch? it's a free world and you do and think what you want ....... read it again, I did not say your Logan lamp is going to kill you, which I suspect is what you are implying!!! Put your hand on an electric fence when you are out next...most run off 12v. Next time you get a sparky round ask him to explain about conductivity and the difference between volts and amps, and ask him if 12v can kill you! Whilst you are at it ask him why the Police Taser gun

i did a fishery a couple seasons back for a friend of mine they had rats were coming from surrounding fields around the holding areas where thefish were kept there were good runs leading to the location , so i just snared them with the hazel benders , until all the runs went dead , caught quite a good lot , it seemed to do the trick, but all locations are not the same , like snareman say's try snaring them with benders, once you master the art you will be more hooked on that than the fishing, you will find all the info at the top of the page in the pinned secton. Fac Air rifles seldom if ever come with a moderator, BUT if you do not have a moderator down on your FAC for your air rifle you CANNOT fit one. You will need to get a variation (free). If you have been given a slot for a FAC air rifle with no conditions you can get one of any power you want. On the FAC air rifle side of things Theoben rule the roost but loads of manufacturers do them. Falcon can FAC your light hunter up to about 30ft lb, but as the resevour is quite small you will not get many shots. Deker
