I would like to check it out but I cannot see anything...Help Please!!! Deker

Some of you may find this useful, it is from the BASC website and lists the Animals and Birds that can be taken with an Air Rifle under the Open General Licence in ENGLAND. The Licence for Scotland, Wales and N Ireland tends to be very similar but I do not have copies so I cannot quote 100%. Please take particular note of the REASONS and the bold areas! Live quarry shooting Many people shoot live quarry, either on their own land or where they have permission. The species which you can shoot are limited by the law and by the effective power of an air rifle. All birds are pro

My views tend to fall in line with Martin above but apparently I am quite fortunate having the Fox on my rimmy. As has already been said there has been lots of debate/dispute about fox calibre and much of it is pinned above, take a look. Cheers Deker

I don't understand what you are getting at...do you want to buy some off me to practice on, or do you want me to give you some to practice on and you give them back to me to display? Deker

OK Guys...I really don't want to be seen as putting the dampeners on this but there are certain practical issues here. It is probable this is relatively safe, but it does without doubt potentially present a risk, I'm assuming the primer and powder are still in place. In addition, how does the law work on metal detecting and finding things, you seem to be in possession of a live cartridge, if I had it in my posession but that calibre was not on my FAC I am breaking the law! If this goes back to 1944 as has been suggested, the 100 year rule does not apply, maybe it is covered under the

Eggy This article is for 28g, we are talking 12g here. I think you had better read it all again anyway, page 19 Table 1 clearly shows the different density for different choke at different ranges! It does also say there are differences but not what people tend to expect, 28g remember! Choke sizes for 28 bore have less variation than 12 bore and therefore less effect. Chokes do work, although I do agree people can get a bit too wrapped up with them, this guy just wants to know what size his are! Cheers Deker

John has it spot on with this.... I think it's important that you shoot with the borrowed gun and then lend yours on. This is because I believe you're using two seperate bits of law here. This is UK law so I don't think it changes for Scotland, but it might. A sgc holder can lend his or her gun to another sgc holder for up to 72 hours without notification, certificate amendment or anything. But not to a non sgc holder at all. The law also allows a SGC holder to allow an non SGC holder to shoot on their land uner their direct supervision and with their gun. To clarify other mat

I'd agree with Donkey and Millet with minor differences/additions... I tend to fire only 3 shot groups and then rest/check target. Strange though it may sound zeroing is VERY exhausting, mentally and physically. You should be able to bring it in with just a few shots BUT, if you get up to 15-20 shots and are not quite there GIVE UP and continue the next day. You need serious support or be prone, but preferably both to zero! Check your pressures first if PCP and check scope, moderator ets is firmly attached before shooting. Also zero with the same pellets you intend to use in

Bit late now they have all gone (picture was about 6 weeks ago)....if I get any more decent bags of the squirrel I'll give you a shout.

To all who I have talked to , bantered with , joked with and argued with , to those kind members who have helped me out, either with advice or sometimes at their own expense , I would like to wish you all, the very best of Christmases and good fortune in the new year . We may be radically divided in our opinions at times , but despite all that, you’re all good lads and lasses (well most of you Ho Ho Ho!!!) at heart who won’t hesitate to help someone out when they need it. Cheers Deker

That sound interesting, must give it a try......My Venison burgers are very simple... Good venison meat...not the scraps, clear as much membrane as possible and mince rather than through a blender. Fresh Onion cut quite finely and egg..get stuck in with your hands mixing the lot...finally, shape onto greaseproof paper, cook fresh, or make in quantity and chuck the rest in the freezer. Easy simple and tasty! I like the sound of a few other ideas posted here so I will try a bit of variation. Cheers Deker

how to prepare the rabbit for curry
Deker replied to markieboi's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
After skinning and cleaning......If you intend to curry/stew/caserole it, you may find it easier to boil it for a while, the meat will tend to come away easier and you may get a little more off each bunny, but as others have said, absolutely no need for this..just cut the meat off normally and cook if you like. Best for eating are the girls about a year old, enjoy! Deker -
Guys....I know I am coming to this one a bit late but unless there have been any changes that I am not aware of the "Police etc" have got this wrong. The common mistake is "Owner"....... Its quite simple really..................... ------------------------------------------------------- Home Office Firearms Law Guidance to Police 2002 Exemptions from the requirement to hold a certificate Shot Guns 1968 Act Section 11(5) of the 1968 Act allows an individual, without holding a shot gun certificate, to borrow a shot gun from the occupier of private premises and use it on

I love the Bisley magnums, but they are heavy and as you say, have an arc like a rainbow sub 12ft lb, get your zero right at short range though and they will be devastating. Cheers John, appreciate the comments. Deker

Will you stop posting pictures of that scope, I go a deeper shade of Green every time I see it. AND...what have you done to the gun, is that before the coat of dulux or have you painted it again? Deker PS..... if anyone is still wondering what to get me for Christmas ...theres a little hint for you!

I think we are singing from the same hymn sheet John. You have obviously got a good understanding of this lot, arc of pellet, Main zero and first zero, parallax, point of impact, terminal ballistic effect, etc but to get back to your original questions...this is a good value well built scope and rarely causes a problem (I could be wrong but I think this carries a REAL LIFETIME guarantee). Shooting your quarry close is a very effective way of stopping them but obviously compensation has to be made in your point of aim (as you know). If you are going to be doing a lot of close range shoot

OK now what does that mean ? I understand the concept of parallax from my physics days so presumably this is to with the relative position of my head on the stock. But how is it 'set' at a distance ? And how does adjusting the ocular focus help ? (that is the eyepiece ?) Ta John Work rounds.... Parallax has to be set somewhere unles you have a fully adjustable parallax. Parallax is an inevitable bi-product of multiple lens placement as in your scope! You cannot adjust the parallax on this scope, it is pre set by Simmons by lens placement internally. It is possible t

Hopefully someone can help me with this one whilst we are here......I am curious to know why so many people seem to suggest a fixed mag scope for deer. Mine is variable mag with sidewheel parallax. On the basis that it is not that uncommon to take deer between 200-400 yards and most fixed scopes are set with a 100 yard parallax I'm not sure how this works out. Are you guys always playing with the ocular focus to get everything sharpe? It's just a question, I have parallax adjustment on all my scopes now and have gradually changed over from fixed to variable mag during the last few year

May not be much difference in some, but all guns, powers and twist rates effect the flight, so does the pellet shape. Mine is running at 26ft lb and AA Field and AA Hunter fly about 4 inches different at 40 yards zero! Dome arrives with more thump, pointed arrives with more penetration! You will also tend to find you get slightly tighter groups with domed! Cheers Deker
-
Accupells are domed, Powapells are pointed, they fly differently, you would be very well advised to re check your zero! Cheers Deker

I have had 3 scopes from Optics Warehouse, one from the Game Fair about 3 or 4 years ago and 2 mail order. Always good to their word and no problems. Not got a S&B so not in a position to comment directly, but 30mm should make things brighter in principle, and I have "heard" German are meant to better! Deker

It's a SIMMONS WHITETAIL CLASSIC scope, 3.5 - 10 x 50 Excellent robust scope and optics offering very good value for money! Parallax is set at 100 yards for these so you will often have to adjust the ocular focus to get it just right for you! You should not have any problem with zero shift on these, on the whole they are very reliable. Dry firing a PCP should not present any problems. Cheers Deker

I've got the first version (it's a 391) Beretta! Brilliant, but I understand this is another step forward........NOW....if they could only make a self cleaning version!!!! Deker

I have recently damaged the second sound moderator on my Falcon Air Rifle. I actually caught it on a tree trunk which managed to split a seam, and caused point of impact spread all over the place. I contacted John Cooper at Falcon and explained the situation, he immediately offered to put a replacement in the post. It arrived today. It's not often in this day and age you get service like this, so a big thank you to John. Cheers Deker

You seem to have had the advice. My understanding is the T8 is a derivative of a military silencer which was designed as almost a throw away item. It works in so much as is does quieten down your shot, but it is well known for the horrible orange stuff and overall life expectancy is not great! I use ASE which are built like a Brick S**t House on my certrefires, but also weigh a ton...swings and roundabouts! Cheers Deker
