You never take a shot if your depending on luck. I can cleanly dispatch of a rabbit at 50 yards with a 10 mph wind. I have BSA Lightning XL and i can say it certaintly kills a rabbit at 50 yds without a real struggle although i have practised upon practised with my gun hitting tennis balls at that range i can say i would never even entertain a shot over 55yds. 68yds is quite far but i would say this shot is possible if Bipod was used and conditions were corrrect and had a experiance with a gun at ranges close to this. Its nothing to do with luck if you know what your guns capabilities are. This is going to depend on the way your firearms region view the situation more than what is the correct gun. Some of the main rimfire range .22LR, .22WMR, .17HMR and the .17Mach2 could be considered a long range rabbit tool, and a fox tool, but it is quite possible your FLO will not consider that to be the case. Then you look at the .22 centrefire calibres which most FLO's are quite happy for fox but you may have a job getting these on your ticket for small ground game and vermin (rabbit). If you are trying to go for 1 gun then a .22WMR or a .223REM. Loads of people will argue

You are absolutely correct to be cautious but I think most of these tales you have heard are either false or caused my misuse/mishandling or just ignorance. If these cartridges seem ok (as in all the ways I have listed above) carry on and use them as if you have just bought them from the store. If one does fail to go off, do as I have said, leave the cartridge in the breech for a good time, do not just take it straight out and have a look at it. Follow the rules and everything will be fine. I have fired many shotgun cartridges over 20 years old and a whole load of the bullet cart

Don't forget my commission when you sell the Jeep........have you bought a Defender?
-
As long as they have been stored well they will not be any problem. If they are damp, mouldy, rotting away, mangled or in any way look damaged or abnormal, etc I would not suggest using them. If you fire one and it fails to go, leave it in the breech for at least 45 seconds (or follow the manufacturers instructions) some say a lot longer than 45 seconds (this is to allow for any slow burn that could be taking place in the percussion cap), and of course leave the gun pointing in a safe direction. I don't quite understand this backfire business or losing eyes/fingers...IF the cartrid

What are the best of road vehicles you can buy? of road? OFF Road? There is no answer to that because of variations of country and terrain but the Defender would come very near, or at the top of many peoples list..........strange though it may sound, a Jeep Cherokee jacked up and with the right boots on is also excellent (not enough clearance as supplied)

Totally agree with Mad Al. Mine has the notched legs as well. Be careful if you intend to mount it on a springer, generally not to be recomended! Quick Bipod Guide... The 6-9" are designed for benchrest shooting The 9-13", benchrest AND fieldwork prone The 12-25", rough fieldwork and sitting position If you only ever target shoot on a range buy a fixed bipod, for all other applications ALWAYS buy a swivel! By far the most popular is the 9-13 swivel!! This is only a GUIDE, it's a free world...you are allowed to do whatever you like with each one!

I would have to suggest the Lightning as well. The HW is excellent, but overengineered and heavy from my point of view. The changes in the law re Air guns from 1 October actually make ownership/usage more difficult than SGC and FAC in some cases. Now... don't get me wrong but these changes were introduced because of the way airguns were being used by some, the media coverage that got, and repeated warnings not working. So, so many people in this country start their shooting lives with airguns, they are the future of our sport so please act responsibly or we will have no future. Off

This gun, like many in the Winchester range is ancient history but there is an old phrase, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Winchester as such is dead and buried, they should have stuck to their core business, but they are back with this. The model 70 was always an excellent rifle, with a massive range (perhaps just too much choice) I really hope the new production plant keeps the build quality up and this is sure to be a winner. http://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/PDF/ri235partial1.pdf

Hadn't seen any until about 4 years ago, seen about 5 or 6 since then and dealt with most of them. I have a photo of one but it's film not digital. Just like the picture above though, they are the same as the european but they do seem different. Watched them interact with normal bunnies and they seem to get on just fine! Still waiting to see my first white one!

I'd take a wild guess and say Rowstock Reading...if you bought it new of course.

Its not looking to good for the OEM trigger is it?
-
I really should just have a look at my trigger because its so good I recon my dealer must have just changed it as you do. The 453 is meant to be a completely new design and/but it is also a set trigger..........I have never seen/used a 453 so I don't know if it is any better, but I do not like set triggers! Win some lose some!

I thought the sale of wild geese was illegal ? In principle you are correct but I was of course referring to the likes of captive bread Canadain Geese. Totally legal, I forget sometimes that a lot of you guys see a load more geese than I do here. Canada Geese everywhere here but that's about it. I've never sold one anyway so to keep everyone happy I'll edit the post and remove Goose...OK!

I think it is well known how bad these are reputed to be BUT..is that your experience I refer specifically to the Rim fire?

The 452 and the trigger...well we all know and have heard so much. I am really curious because I too have spent many years in a NSRA club, in the team and as coach. Now the NRA where I am Secretary of my club. During my 35 plus years shooting I must have fired way over 100 rifles. Years ago I had a BRNO and the trigger was great. More recently I have purchased a CZ 452 Silhouette (NEW) and the trigger is brilliant. Now...I have not taken it apart and checked and I have heard tales of some RFD's changing the trigger as they arrive but mine is brilliant. When my new Tikka arrived

Public Confrontation, Ramblers etc
Deker replied to a topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
I think JohnGalway has it pretty close. I have lots of land but I don't own any of it. So first thing I always do if I think there is ANY likely hood of coming into contact with Joe Public is call the Police and get a URN. A lot of people do this but most seem to do it on a visit for visit basis, a URN can last up to 3 months so just make sure you tell the police you will be shooting throughout that time...easy. I have footpaths, rights of way bridleways over loads of land and fairly commonly come into contact with the public. They tend to either be very quiet and hurry away o -
All i want for xmas is a .223
Deker replied to bunnyspotter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If £1500 is your budget for everything (gun, scope, mounts, moderator, bipod, slip, sling etc) and you are looking new then Sako may be a problem, although it would be my personal first choice. At the moment my finances do not allow it, but I have the Tikka T3 Lite stainless in .223. Tikka is owned by Sako and the Tikka has a Sako barrel (as a matter of interest Beretta own them both). Tikka offer a wide range, are far more reasonably priced than Sako and personally I think you will find them hard to beat. £1500 will buy you a very acceptable Tikka package. Deker -
CZ introduced a 16" barrel option on some of their models a year or two back. Almost everyone has them cut down is for practical/manouverability reasons. The difference in power and accuracy will be very small cut down, so as long as the job is done "professionally" enjoy! Deker

thanks for replying maybe i should check out the cz before i make a decision UK Importers: http://www.edgar-brothers.co.uk/ORIGINAL_SITE/ Main CZ site: http://www.czub.cz/

I asked a similar question a few months ago when my lad was after a 17HMR Synthetic Savage. I got very little response (but that was on another site). I also got in touch with Savage via their website requesting a brochure etc....... I'm still waiting. So I'm no expert on Savage but after seeing and touching a few my lad settled on a CZ Style. Savage did have some interesting woodwork on some models though which CZ could not match. So it's a personal opinion, I have a CZ Silhouette as well. Savage has been around a while and I have never heard anything BAD, but then again I h

sorry john a .22lr would be fine for me and i can start my young lad off with it in a later time.cheers sounder Sounder Don't want to burst your bubble but Tikka don't do anything in .22lr. But the T3 lite is a very good gun. Deker

Sorry for my poorly worded statement, I know exactly what you mean about being real rifles. At the time I could not think of another descriptive. Cheers for your advice, and yes I seem to be ok with regards to land as there is approx 40 acres (maybe less, but not much). Would police be happy with this amount? I spoke to the license department earlier on today with regards to referees and the women I spoke to there said they would much rather I get a neighbor who knows me well rather than my doctor who does not know me. Also I asked about criminal record and she said declare everything an

.243 Probably ---- although it's not the most common calibre for target. If you have land permission with deer and some deer experience and/or a DSC1 you may get a .243 for deer. You will NOT get a .243 for Target shooting unless you are a member of an approved club, as a member of an approved club you will become a member of the NRA because the NRA are doing all the ranges these days not the MOD. Think about a .223, that is fine for fox, small deer and target and may just be a little easier to get than a .243, you are never going to get a 22-250 for target as it exceeds the s
