No wind up and brilliant chat . I had a chat with BASC about shooting marauding deer out of season and was told to be very careful as you'd have to justify beyond any reasonable doubt why sufficient couldn't be dealt with during the season. My problem is a farmer who has a lot of Roe eating his crops and so need thinning out. No question of night shooting, I couldn't justify it and wouldn't want to anyway but during the day, and only on the specific fields being damaged I can legally shoot marauding deer. But, and its a big but, now I'm not keen on doing it based on the advice

:stupid: :stupid: The 1991 Act was the subject of LOADS of amendments in 2007, there was no requirement for a licence to shoot out of season under the 1991 Act, just had to comply with some of the terms/conditions...this has now all changed and you need a Licence! England & Wales!!! Night shooting was always another ball game but you still need a licence for night shooting...England & Wales

You need to take a chill pill...a 30% variation in length and 100% variation in width does not add up to a KNOWN Distance and neither does it make for good zeroing/range testing, as the odds are every pitch you look at will be a different size so it will simply confuse rather then help. And I'm in a place called England ....the sky tends to be GREY!! And I can't spell either.. but we have a new fangled thing called a spel cheker on our computers...one day I might work out how to use it!!

As a quick response 20 acres is unlikely to get a grant of all 4 calibres, possibly not even 2, but .22LR and .17HMR are probably your best bet. There are very few people in the whole country that actually have ALL 4 of the main rimfire calibres, simply because it is unusual to be able to justify all 4. Regions are all different with ammo allocation as well, but one thing that is 100% for sure is, they will NOT grant you high volumes just so you can benefit from quantity discounts! Do some homework and make sure you can justify (at least give a response) for everything you ask for.

You don't need to specify land or permission for a Shotgun, Will, all you need is a reason to tell your Enquiry Officer, a good reason for you would be either Rough Shooting or Vermin Control, same for your father. You will each need to apply for separate licenses in your own names. This means that your father can buy a gun for you to use, but until you are 15 then you will need someone with you, over 21 to shoot it. It is always better if this person has a license too. So, in effect, If both you and your father have a license, then you can use your fathers gun in his company or in

trappa Pitch dimensions Did you know that not all pitches are the same size? The length of a pitch must be between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m) and the width not less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than 100 yards (90m). So a 30% variation in the length and 100% variation in the width!!! Get used to pacing, or try a rangefinder

There are a lot of people who would disagree with that sweeping generalisation I'd be one of them. John .....TEND is very important in the sentence!!! But you have also taken one line out of the post....I think it important to read it in conjunction with my whole post!! just another viewpoint!!!

just see which one feels the best i do like the remington they have loads of aftermarket parts for them to which is cool Jamie I tend to view anything with a serious quantity of aftermarket parts as crap..otherwise why would anyone want to buy all the bits....a decent rifle to start with may cost £100-200 or so more, but odds are it works, and you don't need to throw most of it away and buy new bits....just another viewpoint!!!

300 yards is long range for a fox for anyone with any tool !!

Sporting Shooter have been concerned and on the case here. To be fair they have worked very hard to check this all out! SS have conceded their was an error..they are very happy this is all my work and an apology, and the correct credits will appear in next months Sporting Shooter... additionally....I will be visiting them on their stand at the Game Fair in a couple of weeks to have a ch

Just like your picture, eh Bob! Flippin 'ek...that's what I was thinking.....I have to drop my Beretta on the Butt from a great height to set the second barrel....so I take the easy option and just switch the barrel selector over

Probably no help at all...their Rimfire tools are cheap and cheerful (agricultural) is a phrase I have heard to describe them....Miles was after one in .17HMR and when we went to see it he soon changed his mind....centrefires...not a clue...but you seem to turn up with the slightly unusual sometimes and so far they have been winners!!!

The norm does not matter, although people will tend to zero .22LR subs between about 50-70 yards. What is important is what range you are likely to be taking most shots...zero for that!!! My opinion is, 100 yards is a little far for a normal .22LR, but I have taken plenty of bunnies at that distance and further with mine...we are all different though, and we all have different requirements..set it up and enjoy the way that works best for you and your land!!!

Thanks, this guy sounds ok on the phone. Should go ok. Good luck mate. Think security, cause he will be looking, especially with the FAC. If it`s an access point, lock/bolt it. Look tidy, be honest and polite. basil. If you act like a normal reasonable human being, following advice here, the most complicated question he will probably ask is..."do you have any biscuits to go with this cup of tea?"

Time to move on...we all have our days....the SGC laws have changed a lot over the years.... ....and you forgot to mention...I do know it all

basil...you have to open your mind to the MAJOR difference between VERMIN CONTROL (As defined by man) and licenced in these circumstances: and sport. These are 2 very different things and must not be confused....nobody wants to cause deliberate suffering to any animal but if control is required then the young go as well; as humanely as possible!! I still don`t agree with it. Someone didn`t do their planning very well. If the deer numbers were out of control, why plant a load of saplings which surely he must of known would attract the deer. The deer have only become a pest because of

there trying to make it legal for 22 mate but 22 centrefires that is 222,223and the 22/250 you can shoot cwd and muntjac here with them but not roe if you have it on ticket. yet in scotland the can shoot the above and roe with 22 centrefires as long as you use the right bullets im surprized they didnt add roe here for 22 centrefire rifles when they changed the law to use them here for cwd and muntjac does anyone no why they didnt ??? Roe WAS included up until the final reading of the Deer Act Amendment order 2007 when a question was asked about .22 CF's suitability for Roe.

What country are you in?? 22-250 will kill a Roe easily in any country but is still not legal in England and Wales. What is the B******t about bigger calibres at night and what rational has been suggested for this. Do you have a licence for .. Night shooting? Out of season shooting? Who granted it??? Yours curiously.....
