Appreciate that, BUT that is NOT the Deer Act Amendment. That is a few bits and pieces of the changes and a few comments about it....I suspect that is why this whole subject has got so confusing and potentially why even some of the organisations themselves don't know what day of the week it is!! There is no mention of a "farmers defence" that I can see in the Amendment, although I do concede that I am struggling to find anything that specifically overides the old section 7. But it should be noted that section 7, 1991 Deer Act does not stand alone, it was a defence to section 2 (tak

There is NO formula for this ......You can apply for an Open FAC at your first grant, but it will be your lucky day if you get it. Most regions want to see experience, Safety and NEED, if you can demonstrate any of these then you are in with a chance. You do not have to wait 5 years, you can apply at ANY time! How to apply is easy....just write to your region and ASK them to make your FAC Open. Giving as much info as possible to justify your request will help. It is fairly common for an FAC to be made Open at renewal (5 years)

IF, that is correct it, is potentially very good news ...however, I can't see this in the Amendment. Under which heading/section/sub section, para, whatever does this list, Kindly point me in the direction of the section to look up! Cheers!

.....what has led him to this gun (whatever it is) what has he based his buying decision on????

There is no substitute for a 12ft lb air rifle to learn just about everything about shooting including fieldcraft. After your "apprenticeship" it's about selecting the right tool for the job! I have a sports ground with several football and cricket pitches, its really quite large and open, very flat and very well kept and mowed, an air rifle would be a waste of space, ideal for the HMR though, as there are plenty of clear "long" range bunnies available!! Job I had a few months back for the council, in a country park, left the rimmies in the cabinet and the Air Rifle had to be used!!!

The £5 Million is incorrect according the the mass of paperwork I have from the Administrators.....the Official figure THEY quote in their paperwork is £50 Million!!! If they have managed to bring this down to £5 Million in the last 3 weeks then I suspect they can walk on water as well!!!

F**k me SS....what shotgun ammo are you using on crows and rabbits that costs MORE than £220 per 1000...I can still get a wide choice much less than that ......and I thought I was paying a lot!!! http://www.justcartridges.com/pricelists.html

The arguement here is not which is better, although if I could only have 1 it would definately be the .22LR. They are "different" and in my book they BOTH have a place in my cabinet...... and fortunately for me, and many others, my FEO was quite happy to let me have both!

You get an Open Certificate by demonstrating, ability, knowledge, safety, consideration, consistancy, maturity, history and anything else that helps! The odds of you getting an Open Certificate on your first grant are remote to say the least (although it has been known)...and what happened to the other 500 acres ..it was 2000 yesterday not 1500???

Whilst there are all sorts of arguements for using a bigger calibre I go along with John here! At 40 yards, a 40g HP Sub is devastating into a fox, it will peel back like a mushroom do a lot of damage and has every chance of imparting all its energy rather than going all the way through. In addition, at 40 yards, you should be able to put subs in the same hole!!! I have used a lot of high velocity in the .22LR but NOTHING gives the accuracy of Subs. Also remember "most" .22LR are 1-16 twist and subs tend to be around 1050ft sec. High Velocity can get as high as 1750ft sec, althou

It's the cammo...just dissapeared! ...and all the best tracking down that fly tipper who dumped all those pallets on your permission!!

There is next to nothing to make it dirty with an air rifle so forget it! Rimfire ammo is filthy, but there are those that never clean them, IMO rimfire mods needs cleaning more than any other, the lumps of crud you get out have to be seen to be believed!

Take the bolt out and fit the empty case onto the bolt face and have a look at how much retention the extractor claw actually has on the rim. yes agreed............ with above all sounds suspect to me..............warrenty job mate.............dont try anything your not to sure about...........disapointing on a new gun That says it all and is sound

what he said also i would say the shotgun makes to much mess of the rabbits so you want the rifle because you want to be able to eat them with out all that shot in them Nothing wrong with a bit of shot...not done me any harm  can tenderise the meat quite well to, just mind your teeth, don't cook it too hot or you poison more of the meat...oh yes...and its a bugger to flush the shot down the loo, just sits at the bottom of the pan for flush after flush....... but after a few lead bunnies your brain is so scrambled who cares!!

IMO the best gun is the Weihrauch (overengineered and heavy German technology) BUT the most suitable, and one I would buy for your application is without any doubt the BSA. The lightning has loads of models but they are a cracking gun!

Thinking about it.... there is also something going on about not shooting them on Sundays or Christmas day either...I'm a little grey on the Hare as I simply don't have to deal with them! So...what do I need to do to bring a tear to peoples eye and get an invite to some Hare ground!!!

Correct...come under Game regulations...NOT General Licence! Nevertheless, can certainly be a pest, but simply not the numbers about compared to rabbits. thanks deker........does that mean you need a licence to shoot them, or do i presume there is a season??? we have a few on one of our permissions..........and the farmer asked us NOT to shoot them ( not that we would!!)..........he loves them and seem to think they are good for the farm!! regards sean NO licence required but...... Contact BASC for more information. Species England, and Wales Shoot

me to [bANNED TEXT] every one i have aimed at and shot it went down like a sack of s**t if i cant get it in the head i wont wast the shot we all know you got about a 20 pence pice size kill zone on a rabbit same goes for a hare if its in the right place and the right shoot its fine only advantage you have with a rim fire ect is the distance you dont need more than 12lbs for rabbits/hares Incorrect...with a .22LR you will tend to also have a projectile weighing between 30-40g travelling at approximately twice the speed of your air rifle pellet, the effect of this upon arrival

Went on a fishing holday to Oz many years ago, Northern Territory, the Estate was 4,000,000 acres.....YEP 4 Million!!!! The owner said.... "it's what we call a smallholding here!!!!"
-
As has been said....... But terminology could be playing a part here, the barrel "MAY" be knackered but it is unlikely to be "shot out". I would expect an HMR to last much longer than 1000 rounds even without cleaning. First suggestion would be serious clean and check the crown, always a chance of damage there, but to suggest 1000 is all you should expect from a HMR is absolute Bull!!!!
-
That is actually a very valid point......someone mentioned it earlier...may well have been you!!!..... Why does everyone get all excited about using them on shots 2-3-400 yards away, they are also very useful on much closer quarry when using the rimmy, especially .22LR Subs when sometimes just 10 yards can make a couple of inches difference in a shot! It is not that uncommon for the air rifle boys to use them either!!!
-
They are very useful and are getting smaller now as well, but most are still "expensive"! Was out last night and checked several of my range estimates against shooting buddies rangefinder.....heartening to know I can still get it pretty close, I would still buy one if they got a bit smaller and cheaper though! ...they are worth their weight in gold and I find them very useful,..... when your shooting partner is carrying it!!!

The Airsporter is a great classic...it is also VERY simple...if you take the metal out of the wood the odds are you will actually see why it isn't working...worth a try!!

Cheers for that...I get the idea and have known about this ratio business for years, but to be honest, never thought about it, or realised it had anything to do with eye pupil.
