Thinking about it.... there is also something going on about not shooting them on Sundays or Christmas day either...I'm a little grey on the Hare as I simply don't have to deal with them! So...what do I need to do to bring a tear to peoples eye and get an invite to some Hare ground!!!

Correct...come under Game regulations...NOT General Licence! Nevertheless, can certainly be a pest, but simply not the numbers about compared to rabbits. thanks deker........does that mean you need a licence to shoot them, or do i presume there is a season??? we have a few on one of our permissions..........and the farmer asked us NOT to shoot them ( not that we would!!)..........he loves them and seem to think they are good for the farm!! regards sean NO licence required but...... Contact BASC for more information. Species England, and Wales Shoot

me to [bANNED TEXT] every one i have aimed at and shot it went down like a sack of s**t if i cant get it in the head i wont wast the shot we all know you got about a 20 pence pice size kill zone on a rabbit same goes for a hare if its in the right place and the right shoot its fine only advantage you have with a rim fire ect is the distance you dont need more than 12lbs for rabbits/hares Incorrect...with a .22LR you will tend to also have a projectile weighing between 30-40g travelling at approximately twice the speed of your air rifle pellet, the effect of this upon arrival

Went on a fishing holday to Oz many years ago, Northern Territory, the Estate was 4,000,000 acres.....YEP 4 Million!!!! The owner said.... "it's what we call a smallholding here!!!!"

As has been said....... But terminology could be playing a part here, the barrel "MAY" be knackered but it is unlikely to be "shot out". I would expect an HMR to last much longer than 1000 rounds even without cleaning. First suggestion would be serious clean and check the crown, always a chance of damage there, but to suggest 1000 is all you should expect from a HMR is absolute Bull!!!!
-
That is actually a very valid point......someone mentioned it earlier...may well have been you!!!..... Why does everyone get all excited about using them on shots 2-3-400 yards away, they are also very useful on much closer quarry when using the rimmy, especially .22LR Subs when sometimes just 10 yards can make a couple of inches difference in a shot! It is not that uncommon for the air rifle boys to use them either!!!
-
They are very useful and are getting smaller now as well, but most are still "expensive"! Was out last night and checked several of my range estimates against shooting buddies rangefinder.....heartening to know I can still get it pretty close, I would still buy one if they got a bit smaller and cheaper though! ...they are worth their weight in gold and I find them very useful,..... when your shooting partner is carrying it!!!

The Airsporter is a great classic...it is also VERY simple...if you take the metal out of the wood the odds are you will actually see why it isn't working...worth a try!!

Cheers for that...I get the idea and have known about this ratio business for years, but to be honest, never thought about it, or realised it had anything to do with eye pupil.

If they are a problem they have to go, don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise.... and how do you define sporting,.... and a fox skull is not that strong either, etc, etc,... there are better, more reliable ways of doing it....simple as..... What is this Countryside Alliance business, if you are a member I would be interested in you asking them their opinion on this subjest and posting their reply!!! I know the BASC view so it would be interesting to see the CA view!!

A 12ft lb air rifle would not normally be considered an acceptable tool for a Hare. We all know that the right shot will do the job but a hare is twice the size of a rabbit! Just not the right tool in my opinion.

General response on this directed at several who have raised it ..not just SNAP SHOT!!! That makes sense but what happens then with a 25 or 30mm tube, variable power and lens quality/coatings. If these figures are the optimum for the reason stated, should they not all be a bit bigger, ie bigger tube, bigger objective, etc, to compensate for light LOSS and still therefore provide the optimum amount of light at the eye. If the formula is correct, we are still all getting less at the eye than the eye can process, because of light loss in the scope! Don't shout and scream...just my

Good going!!! Lot more foxes around in my part of the world as well this year, shot more in the first 3 months of 2008 than I did in all of 2007! Usually only getting one or two a night though, best I've had in one session this year is 4.....but I shoot a lot, and regularly, so I suspect they are sort of under control!

Just out of interest, is there a food demand out there for rabbit, my Game Dealer is going mad for them at the moment, the market has gone absolutely silly round me in the last few weeks....but it has also gone a bit quieter for the deer!!
-
??????What does the red bit mean....If he has one why are you getting him one????? You can't get him a SG Certificate. There is nothing to stop you getting the form, filling in a lot of it for him and paying for it, but he will have to complete some of it, find a referee and get some pictures taken, in simple terms HE has to apply!

Lets get this straight...I am not looking for an arguement with you or anyone, but if you misquote me or invent things altogether that I have not said then I am going to get really p****d off. Second...Mr L has a point and this is all getting a little silly. Third...... I DON'T HAVE A RANGE FINDER, just a lot of experience, but I shoot with people that often do, and my distance estimation when checked against the rangefinders is "usually" pretty close. With regard my hunting ability..it is well documented with threads and pictures on this site, but this is a complete red herring

Good going....I assume you don't get much traffic round that area, (picture 2)
-
.....Known Distance is a term used to describe these methods when talking about a known distance ...not an Unknown distance! And yep I am serious, particularly when people invent Bullshit like this....... if you have trouble shooting at different ranges perhaps you need a lot more practice instead of bothering yourself with whether a football field is the correct size or not, then you may be able to leave the rifle range and do some hunting, if you are concerned about a difference in 5-10 metres maybe you need to stay within the 'sterile' conditions of the range and leave the animals alon

Guys ...I really don't give a fig if you want to ignore the regulations, but burrying your head in the sand and pretending they don't exist is nieve! You need a licence...and you will have a tough job getting one! I am also far more familier with the 1991 Act than most, and was very happy with the previous regulations with regard "out of season control". The BDS would not allow you to shoot deer at all if they had their own way, and Natural England are the most disorganised out of touch organisation you would ever want to deal with.... BUT...their repsonse some months back when I disc

Wilf I have been involved with a few bits of TV....I did a pilot for a Sky channel last year and just about told the producer/director where to get off as he was trying to turn the whole affair into a comedy!!! The only way to get the message accross is to get involved and put your case ... If you don't do anything silly they will have a job making you look daft...and you can tell within seconds of meeting them wether they intend to make a pro or anti programme! You then co-operate, or walk......Not sure how this will work though...... Before he goes we are planning to film him i

Just possible Ian edited this a little first don't you think!!!

Yep...as long as he is NOT Related, Not a copper, not a gun dealer, known you long enough....all the bits....!

To save you all reading the whole Order I have extracted this part for you...it is the bit that says you need a licence to shoot deer out of season......I take it you are all happy to accept you can now shoot CWD and Muntjac with .22CF...well the same order introduced licences as well!!!!! Believe what you like but if you listen to the BASC and are caught you are in trouble!! To help you even more the really important bit is highlighted in RED.....also covers taking them at night etc.... You will perhaps note this is a "Statutary Instrument" and carries the force of law.....it i

Maybe if you weren't so aggressive in replying to posts you'd get a more polite response. Now go and find it for yourself :wankerzo4: I asked BASC and it still applies apparently WHEN ..... see email below from BASC and note the date..but regardless of when they told you, the Government makes the laws in this country not the BASC!! But making the assumption that you're the expert in these matters and not the BASC deer department, I'll bow to your superior knowledge. Good cop out...but I can't help thinking I wasn't the cocky git telling me I was stupid and to "catch up"
