.22 LR-Could someone give me a definitive answer?
Deker replied to SportingShooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Go on John...you tell them!!!! -
Depends how conscientious you want to be, 20 shots in a Hornet and the barrel needs cleaning!!.......If you want to maintain optimum accuracy and barrel life!! No point in using copper cleaners on the rimfire if you are only using lead subs...but rimfire propellant is filthy on the whole and tends to leave great lumps of crud up the barrel....I suggest cleaning regularly, but no need to clean anywhere near as often as the centrefires!! Don't know the Dragon Mod...but all mods will benefit from a clean from time to time and it will also extend their life!! I suspect many will come b

No wonder you have been called to that site...they really do have a problem!!

Air rifle barrels will benefit from a clean but there is not the requirement for cleaning as associated with, rimfires, centrefires and shotguns. Much of the crud up the barrel of these will be propellant residue (often corrosive) and copper deposits! The air rifle does not suffer from this, firing predominantely lead/alloy pellets with no propellant. This is soft and causes very limited damage, and "tends" to leave VERY little residue up the barrel. However, you still need to keep the rifling and crown in good condition to maintain optimum accuracy, so a good clean from "time to

There is not enough detail in your question to give a definitive answer..... But on the face of it I don't see there is a question to answer...the AA410 leaps out as the obvious choice

.22 LR-Could someone give me a definitive answer?

We all have an opinion of course and I am not the biggest Quad fan in the world, Much prefered the old Finnfire, but I struggle to understand that one, the Synthetic is probably the "cheapest" feel, but I still don't see it feels like a cheap toy with cheap build quality.. But I would like to see a decent "rubber" Butt pad rather than this plastic thing they fit!! (yes..I know it is only a rimmy but I still prefer them!!) Also note... they are about to introduce a new wooden stock for the quad based on the Finnfire!! when i say cheap toy quality, its when you tap on the side of -

Deker There's a few pics of the wooden quad and varmints on guntrader, so they are in the shops Neil Great....But I'm not sure if that is actually the NEW wooden stock, The man from Sako on the GMK stand at the Game Fair told me the new "finnfire" style stock would be available in the UK in ...."a few months"... Have you got a link, or tell me which ones you are looking at, and I'll go have a look myself an see if it reminds me of the Finnfire, Cheers !! -
It is £60 for Coterminous Certificates and even if you have a current SGC or FAC but want both to be 'Coterminous' then you can still do so. It basically means that the remaining time on the Certificate you have already will be cancelled and a new 5 year one issued. E.g. You have an SGC with 2 years left to run. You want to apply for your FAC. You can at this stage ask for Coterminous Certificates. You will need to fill out an SGC and FAC application form and post them off together asking for a Coterminous Cert. And if successful you will have a new 5 year SGC and a new grant FAC. Spot on

I have the T3 Lite stainless in .223..also 1-8 twist. It handles the cheap stuff well, Wolf 55g HP, Barnaul 62g FMJ, Prvi 55g FMJ. Used them all, and unlike the Remington and Howa .223's, which is not happy with these, the Tikka produces very acceptable results! Never used anything less than 55g in it. The better "quality" ammo does produce better results, but it depends on your requirements (and depth of your pocket)

i was goin to buy a ruger semi auto when i first got my ticket and the FAO said we wont give you it (i had a bit of trouble gettin my certificates) but when i did i was under the impression that i couldnt get a semi auto because of the way he put it across, gutted might put in for a variation then once the move is sorted still keep my bolt action .22 aswell. As has been said, it is the calibre and NOT the action.... if you are granted approval to acquire a .22LR you can buy whatever is legally available in the UK, unless of course a condition has been added to the contrary....(VERY r -

Deker replied to sureshot's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Dicehorn has it in one...Thames Valley do a simlar thing...probably on their website. My region INSIST on Registered or recorded mail for info such as this.......I asked about email notification around a year or so back and they flately refused....may have to ask again to see if they have advanced as far as the 20th Century yet!!! -
It's based on the NATO round to the extent it is a 5.56mm high pressure round. Fragmenting, HP, SP etc is banned under the Geneva Convention for military warfare...doesn't stop countries using them of course. The reason for the change is cost, logistics and operational time/supply. The 5.56 is cheaper. More can be transported to where they are required in the given truck/plane, etc. The soldier can carry more personally and therefore remain a more effective battle machine before he needs re supplying!
-
That's how I'd been schooled too. A dead soldier lies on the ground, collected when everything has finished. A wounded soldier screams in agony, demoralising his comrades and requiring two men to carry him away from the battle field. Doesn't the 5.56 round tumble as a product of it's design, when fired from assault rifles? Chris A little more on the RG5.56 UK Military round (although most round the world are very similar)! Nope...it would be desperately inaccurate if it did, what tends to happen is that on contact it can flip a bit and go in sideways due to the shape
-
I'm a little intrigued about the 5.56 bullet bouncing all around the body and coming out wherever! This is news to me but I would be pleased if someone could explain it. The standard issue SA80 round for the UK military is a Radway Green 62g FMJ. It conforms to the Geneva Convention. It is also nowhere near as good a round (manufacturing, accuracy, build quality, consistancy) as the old Radway Green 7.62. RG has been part of BAE systems for some time now and there is more than a suggestion that they want to get out of ammo production!!! I have used the RG5.56 (and hundreds of

Well...the picture is a lot smaller but the record has all been set straight in the September issue of Sporting Shooter, page 26. Cheers again to everyone for their support! Deker

I used to go to a clay shoot on a dairy farm, it was on every 2 weeks for about 4 years...the vet then stepped in and said the led was a problem for the cows. The shoot moved and I was more than a little surprised to see 2 of the stands were shot over beautiful wheat fields Now ... there were probably between 100-150 people at every shoot with 7 stands and practice...so a lot more lead hitting the ground than in the case of this thread..but someting to still be mindful of!!

Commonly OVER filling! Too many people think a little extra pressure will help with power, and/or shots per charge...False! What it will tend to do is give inconsistency of shot and in some cases valve bounce!! The whole internals of PCP's are designed to work within a range, and a lot of people suffer from the same problem as you because they overfill....although many of them never notice! What gun is it??? Many Falcons hate more than 185bar!!!

Ok ..Section 14 Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981...in simple terms this says it is illegal to introduce into the wild any non native animal, to this country! The CWD is not native...now.... for some time shooters have done their best to control this little animal, but the Government, last year introduced a Season for the CWD. I am a little confused, Defra, the Forestry Commission, etc, etc are actively involved in trying to rid this country of the Non native Grey Squirrel, but introduce a Season to protect this much more recently introduced Non Native species, the CWD. I must h

Don't like the look of a dead fox or what? Something smells familiar here....... YEP..sure does.., glad you said it, I've been thinking it!!!!!!!! -
Dear Mr Newbie...theshooter Whilst I expect your intentions are good you have just arrived and have neither put up an arguement for this petition, explained why, OR filled in your personal profile. The wording of the Petition is limited. I am fairly experienced when it comes to the Badger and have a set of monsterous proportions on one of my shoots. Cave like, and the cows fall in a lot...I suspect most on this site also have an idea of the diseases SOME Badger carry. My limited understanding of the cull is simply that we will end up with less Badgers, but a similar percentage are l

When you make a report such as ...."I'm going to be shooting rabbit on Freds land tonight for the purpose of vermin control.........." the Police, (actually, usually, a civilian on the phone) will issue you with a report number. This will be something like URN275/27.7.08 The URN is..... Unique Reference Number

The .20 just hasn't taken off the way it was expected to has it ..marketed as the best of both worlds...it soon became obvious it wasn't, not as flat as the .177 and doesn't hit as hard as the .22...Hey Ho!!! it goes on and on... What I find strange in all the .177 or .22 debates is people tend to be fairly pasionate about one or the other, very rare to hear someone say ...I have BOTH!!! And argueably there is a place for both in many peoples uses!!!
