  1. Totally agree, but in an attempt not to be too controversial I shall avoid refererence to childrens pets here. Wild/Ferral cats are a serious pest in some areas and cause considerable damage. They can be legally shot, and are, on a regular basis, and I for one have no problem pulling the trigger. Also understand several peoples comments about posting the picture, but we live in the real world and this is a hunting site, people can make any suggestion about any picture these days as there are so many editing programmes available! Having said all that, probably best we all shut up a
  2. That's the one...been playing a bit today but not had the chance to mount it yet, new mounts for MR Tikka on order! Optics do seem really quite good, very useable up to 20x mag and most definately useable at 24 times. Very clear at the bottom and middle magnification range. 5 settings for each brightness on the Red or Green IR. No idea yet how it will dial in to zero and how it will hold it. Build quality and lettering/figures printing all done to a budget! But I was happy enough after my first JSR to buy another!!!
  3. Well ...as some of you may recall I went in for a new scope a few weeks back and was asking about JSR own brand! Bought the 4-16x44 Mill dot, this is an innexpensive scope which delivers way beyond it's price, but it is still a budget scope. Several other shooting buddies have looked through it and are impressed. It's on my Tika T3 Lite in .223 and I had an incredible run of V-bulls and Bulls with it at 200 Yard Short Siberia on Sunday using cheap Barnaul 62g and Prvi 55g ammo! So ....now, just bought the JSR 6-24x50 illuminated, arrived yesterday and would have no hesitation in sug

Dear Wats I do not believe the air rifle is the tool of choice to shoot Hare with, a point I have made historically, and a view shared by the BASC and the CA and just about every other shooting involved organisation you can think of. However, I also made the point if you look back, that..."we all know it is capable of doing the job"....we also all know a 12ft lb air rifle is capable of killing a PERSON, and has done, but it certainly is not the first choice for anyone wanting to achieve this! In this particular case the Hare ran straight at Charlie who was in cover, he had a clear

  7. Seldom have I seen such a consensus of opinion! Totally agree, the choice comes down to .22LR, HMR, and .223, 22-250. My choice if pushed for just 2......... .22LR .223Rem
  8. Dont want to sound silly... But what does 1-8 twist mean? Cheers If I get this wrong someone will correct it but I'm gonna have a stab at it anyway (ever find it hard to explain something you know you know?). A 1 in 8 twist basically means that when the bullet is fired and still in the barrel that it will turn/revolve/roll around once on it's axis in every eight inches of that barrel. Say you have a 24" barrel that has a 1 in 8 twist, the bullet will have turned three times before it leaves the barrel. Different twist rates suit different length bullets (often people say different w
  9. As SEAN3513 correctly says this is a bit of ancient history...there was a great outcry at the time and several shooting bodies became involved too....net result is, it has now died!!! Nothing to stop some **** trying something stupid again though!
  10. Depends how conscientious you want to be, 20 shots in a Hornet and the barrel needs cleaning!!.......If you want to maintain optimum accuracy and barrel life!! No point in using copper cleaners on the rimfire if you are only using lead subs...but rimfire propellant is filthy on the whole and tends to leave great lumps of crud up the barrel....I suggest cleaning regularly, but no need to clean anywhere near as often as the centrefires!! Don't know the Dragon Mod...but all mods will benefit from a clean from time to time and it will also extend their life!! I suspect many will come b
  11. No wonder you have been called to that site...they really do have a problem!!
  12. Air rifle barrels will benefit from a clean but there is not the requirement for cleaning as associated with, rimfires, centrefires and shotguns. Much of the crud up the barrel of these will be propellant residue (often corrosive) and copper deposits! The air rifle does not suffer from this, firing predominantely lead/alloy pellets with no propellant. This is soft and causes very limited damage, and "tends" to leave VERY little residue up the barrel. However, you still need to keep the rifling and crown in good condition to maintain optimum accuracy, so a good clean from "time to
  13. There is not enough detail in your question to give a definitive answer..... But on the face of it I don't see there is a question to answer...the AA410 leaps out as the obvious choice
  14. We all have an opinion of course and I am not the biggest Quad fan in the world, Much prefered the old Finnfire, but I struggle to understand that one, the Synthetic is probably the "cheapest" feel, but I still don't see it feels like a cheap toy with cheap build quality.. But I would like to see a decent "rubber" Butt pad rather than this plastic thing they fit!! (yes..I know it is only a rimmy but I still prefer them!!) Also note... they are about to introduce a new wooden stock for the quad based on the Finnfire!! when i say cheap toy quality, its when you tap on the side of
  15. Deker There's a few pics of the wooden quad and varmints on guntrader, so they are in the shops Neil Great....But I'm not sure if that is actually the NEW wooden stock, The man from Sako on the GMK stand at the Game Fair told me the new "finnfire" style stock would be available in the UK in ...."a few months"... Have you got a link, or tell me which ones you are looking at, and I'll go have a look myself an see if it reminds me of the Finnfire, Cheers !!
  16. It is £60 for Coterminous Certificates and even if you have a current SGC or FAC but want both to be 'Coterminous' then you can still do so. It basically means that the remaining time on the Certificate you have already will be cancelled and a new 5 year one issued. E.g. You have an SGC with 2 years left to run. You want to apply for your FAC. You can at this stage ask for Coterminous Certificates. You will need to fill out an SGC and FAC application form and post them off together asking for a Coterminous Cert. And if successful you will have a new 5 year SGC and a new grant FAC. Spot on
  17. I have the T3 Lite stainless in .223..also 1-8 twist. It handles the cheap stuff well, Wolf 55g HP, Barnaul 62g FMJ, Prvi 55g FMJ. Used them all, and unlike the Remington and Howa .223's, which is not happy with these, the Tikka produces very acceptable results! Never used anything less than 55g in it. The better "quality" ammo does produce better results, but it depends on your requirements (and depth of your pocket)

  19. i was goin to buy a ruger semi auto when i first got my ticket and the FAO said we wont give you it (i had a bit of trouble gettin my certificates) but when i did i was under the impression that i couldnt get a semi auto because of the way he put it across, gutted might put in for a variation then once the move is sorted still keep my bolt action .22 aswell. As has been said, it is the calibre and NOT the action.... if you are granted approval to acquire a .22LR you can buy whatever is legally available in the UK, unless of course a condition has been added to the contrary....(VERY r
  20. Dicehorn has it in one...Thames Valley do a simlar thing...probably on their website. My region INSIST on Registered or recorded mail for info such as this.......I asked about email notification around a year or so back and they flately refused....may have to ask again to see if they have advanced as far as the 20th Century yet!!!
  21. It's based on the NATO round to the extent it is a 5.56mm high pressure round. Fragmenting, HP, SP etc is banned under the Geneva Convention for military warfare...doesn't stop countries using them of course. The reason for the change is cost, logistics and operational time/supply. The 5.56 is cheaper. More can be transported to where they are required in the given truck/plane, etc. The soldier can carry more personally and therefore remain a more effective battle machine before he needs re supplying!
  22. That's how I'd been schooled too. A dead soldier lies on the ground, collected when everything has finished. A wounded soldier screams in agony, demoralising his comrades and requiring two men to carry him away from the battle field. Doesn't the 5.56 round tumble as a product of it's design, when fired from assault rifles? Chris A little more on the RG5.56 UK Military round (although most round the world are very similar)! Nope...it would be desperately inaccurate if it did, what tends to happen is that on contact it can flip a bit and go in sideways due to the shape
  23. I'm a little intrigued about the 5.56 bullet bouncing all around the body and coming out wherever! This is news to me but I would be pleased if someone could explain it. The standard issue SA80 round for the UK military is a Radway Green 62g FMJ. It conforms to the Geneva Convention. It is also nowhere near as good a round (manufacturing, accuracy, build quality, consistancy) as the old Radway Green 7.62. RG has been part of BAE systems for some time now and there is more than a suggestion that they want to get out of ammo production!!! I have used the RG5.56 (and hundreds of
