  1. There are 2 different Food Hygiene Certificates..on for large and one for small game...takes the p**s, but like I said in my earlier response here, best talk to someone like the BASC who will advise requirements!!!
  2. They ARE..unless they have just introduced a 1-7!!!!!!
  3. Do I need a Passport to get over the Bridge these days now you have your own government??? ...and I went to see my top reloading man today...the chap where Tom got all his stuff...all I would say is BALLS... (seems a much better bet than extruded)
  4. Help please, just bought a 700SPS Stainless in .308, time was getting on in the store and all I have is the basic gun, so I need to sort out all the bits asap. Question I have is, what bases and rings do you use or favour, this is a new departure for me, my other centrefires are Tikkas so not used to these funny screw in things that sit on top of the Remington! Thanks for your help!
  5. What's happened to the British entrepreneurial spirit in these days of economic hardship, after spending all night wrapped up in the enjoyment and pleasure of reloading superb ammo I would have thought it would be the icing on the cake to actually make a couple of quid profit!!
  6. I've read up on the ballistics and looked at as many charts as I can find, BUT now I would like some hands on practical feedback. How short have you cut either of the above barrels and are you happy/satisfied/unhappy with the end shooting results and balance?! We are talking hunting not target, but comments on either appreciated! Cheers
  7. Not sure I would refer to the .243 as a jack off all trades caliber and... i keep gettin pusehd off the idea of a .243 i know its a great caliber but it would mean getting rid of my .22-250 and i like have more guns not less I'm getting lost as to where you are coming from...I have a FAC full of different calibres, whats wrong with having both???!! BUT, in any case, if you decide the .243 will do everything your 22-250 will, why would you have a problem getting rid of the 22-250?
  8. .........and hopefully it will improve if I can get the balance sorted out, but lord knows what will happen with a shorter barrel!! You may have to develop a custom cartridge for me!!!
  9. Tikkas are a little ammo fussy, but less so than many makes, what twist is yours!!! I have the T3 Lite Stainless in .223, 1-8 twist, and it will shoot Wolf 55g HP (18pence each, £18 per 100) into 1" at 100 yards, but I know many guns hate the Wolf!!
  10. Talk to any Tikka/GMK distributor, I'm sure a weaver rail is available for the T3!
  11. I'm struggling a bit with where this is going, there are useless springers and useless PCP's just as there are excellent in each. Production costs tend to be somewhat different in each case, but prices are primarily dictated by what the market will stand and not necessarily reflective of costs! I'm struggling with this status thing, perhaps a Ripley, but I don't see it anywhere else. A cheap springer will not generally perform as well as a more expensive one, same with a PCP, it's nothing to do with the fact they are ALL 12ft lb, it's about weight, balance, feel, recoil, consistanc
  12. older one's worked crapier as the trigger unit was lock lobbing a brick. If you pay 400-500 for old old model your basicly giving them what they payed new. any owner who has a real old one for sale would drop to 350 no probs ive noticed over the years me using these forums. bbs is a good place to get a good idea of the going rates. imo over priced over rated,s10 has match trigger, regulator and much more to offer at half the price. Hi Chap I said it all in the original post...its nothing to do with the trigger!! ..........if it is a VERY early model in good nick it will
  13. It's LEFT handed..more to buy and less to sell.....however ..if it is a VERY early model in good nick it will attract a premium..if you don't know why then you don't know how the earliest ones worked!!!!
  14. I might do a little long range target shooting up 600 m but it will be mostly red deer the heavy barrel is good for shooting 10 to 15 deer in a few minutes as some times demand on what i am doing . Plenty of target ammo for 600yards/m for the .308, a relatively easy distance for the calibre. 10-15 Deer in a few minutes????? F*** me, you either work in a slaughter house or have an incredible sound moderator!!! Fair do's if that is the case, you certainly don't have to worry about the weight and carrying the tool around for hours then like the rest of us mere mortals!!!
  15. Chap..it is a matter of definition what is best, an ATOM Bomb is pretty effective, as is a .5 Barrett, lots of things add up to what is the best calibre for any given quarry, and I make no suggestion the .243 is the BEST Deer/long range round, it simply ticks a lot of boxes!!
  16. Light is easier with the snow (which means you stand out more as well remember), tracks are easy to see/distinguish/follow, and even though bunny/fox/deer etc are not fans of this weather, they still have to eat eventually! The winter months tend to be leaner for many quarry, but they are still there!!
  17. I agree with you on the .243 situation BUT; and there is a BIG BUT....243 is gentle on the shoulder, fast, powerful, it will stop any deer easily at long range if you can shoot, it's legal, relatively lots of choice, relatively cheap, accurate...so it become a popular deer round ....and a lot use it for fox too!! I also seem to recall a .243 won the world 1000 yard target in 2007 or 2008, says a lot all round for the calibre!!!
  18. What do you intend pointing the .308 at..makes a lot of difference to the ammo, do I assume target work with a heavy barrel, if not may I ask why a heavy barrel..its a .308, how many goes do you want???
  19. ROUGHLY GETTING 180 SHOTS OUT OF A 88G ...did you count????? I am very curious, I was in a dealer today and noticed one of these..he suggested 100 shots and it cost £8.00....how much did you pay.. this seems very expensive to me...but it is Co2 of course!!
  20. SS ..... Mr Logic .......etc....etc.....etc I think I have become a serious fan of this reloading malarky.... I am impressed by the time, effort, quality, expertise, variations, etc, etc involved with this option...I am therefore more than happy to give you a couple of quid on top of your costs to supply me with custom amnmo!! Many thanks .................but not just yet...get a bit of practice first...Cheers!!! .223/.243/.308 will do..all the common stuff, thanks!! Ta!!!
  21. Detail is important..you need to talk to someone like the BASC to 100% clarify the issue. Loopholes are easy, driving at 35 miles an hour in a 30 MPH limit is illegal FULL STOP. BUT the problems only occur if you get caught!!
  22. Impressive stuff you've just confirmed that the .204 is what i'm after, yes i totally agree ammo is expensive but hopefully if the round gets more popular the price may come down. Still waiting on the grant to come through its only been 4 months they're abit slow in my neck of the woods! Will let you know how i got on but thanks for your replyhttp://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif Each to their own of course and every problem and piece of land has its favoured tool, the .204 has its uses without any doubt, but it is NOT the new Messiah, a .223 has a L
  23. Guys/Gals I did have a good contact for cuts etc but things change......Dowlings quote £120 for CUT, THREAD, CROWN and RE-PROOF..... now, on the face of it that seems fairly reasonable..but something at the back of my mind says I remember issues.....anyone dealt with them for this, anyone got any comment or recommend anyone to do an A1 job for all the above at the same or cheaper!! To be honest I'm not that bothered about the proof...so what about prices and service, who do you rate...????? Cheers All!
  24. Tend to agree with Mr L above..the 22-250 is very capable to 600 yards with the right ammo and shooter! Obviously has deer issues but I understand the Shetlands is short of deer! .308 hits a lot harder but is not necessarily a longer range tool, the 300 Win Mag is longer range whilst at the same time hitting pretty hard..but it ain't cheap! The usual issue is,.. what do I want to do and how much am I prepared to pay to do it!!
