  1. Impressive stuff you've just confirmed that the .204 is what i'm after, yes i totally agree ammo is expensive but hopefully if the round gets more popular the price may come down. Still waiting on the grant to come through its only been 4 months they're abit slow in my neck of the woods! Will let you know how i got on but thanks for your replyhttp://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif Each to their own of course and every problem and piece of land has its favoured tool, the .204 has its uses without any doubt, but it is NOT the new Messiah, a .223 has a L
  2. There is nothing wrong with the Ruger, just not a gun for me at all, its based on the old Mauser action of about 100 years ago and the Ruger has hardly changed in the last 30 years, there is nothing necessarily wrong with this and the result is a good solid gun. Anschutz from the first time I ever held one nearly 40 years ago!! BUT.... CZ does me very nicely for what I want these days!!
  3. The .22LR is open to debate on Fox, many police regions flatly refuse to allow it so a potential problem area. Muntjac is now legal with a MINIMUM .22 certrefire, 50g Expanding ammo and 1000ft lb, so .22LR is an absolute NON starter!!
  4. For whatever reason I had 15,000 cartridges in mind before Explosives Cert required so I guess we are both pretty close!! I often have 3-4000 carts in the house but I'm up around 6500 at the moment as I'm looking after a pals Beretta and ammo, not sure too many people would often want to carry many more at home anyway..apart from cost these days, thats a big pile and you would probably need to get the stress analysts in for the weight!!
  5. This is more complicated than you may think thanks to the EU and the Food Hygiene Regulations we had to adopt a few years back now, BASC etc will explain the legal position and help you get the certificate...best talk to them!!!
  6. I shot one few years ago in a driven shoot. We were only allowed to shoot bucks that particular day and I could see this doe running in my direction. Just before she jumped out of the forestry I saw small antlers and I then took the decision to shoot. Mine was not pregnant and I was told at that time that these doe usually are bad for reproduction. Apparently the person telling me this was wrong. Definately, as the one we got Sunday was in the family way too!!
  7. Thanks all for the links..some interesting comments!!!
  8. Anyone else available to chip in on this, I undersatand there are a few 700 owners on THL. Cheers
  9. two Whilst SG is a devastating cartridge the only use I can think of for it is blowing hinges off doors at point blank range!!! Point it at anything live more than about 15-20 feet away and the odds are you will probably miss! I have never been in a position where I thought SG was the cartridge of choice, and to be honest I don't know why I bother to carry around 3 in the belt, but each bit of land is different and each shot is different so who knows!!! Others may find more uses for it than me!! i though SG meant shotgun although the foxes i shot off the back of a t
  10. That could definately have it's uses!!!
  11. That will work fine, you may want to work your own variation in time, the skin comes off in pretty much one piece but usually takes a bit more pulling than a rabbit. And depending where you shot it you need to get on with it, don't leave a bleeding heart shot (or ideally ANY shot) overnight or it will spoil. You will soon learn which are best to eat, pretty much like the rabbit again, the biggest ones with monster nuts and hard to undress, are tuff old boys usually!!

  13. I'm not sure I have used one but being part of the Beretta Empire I suggest it will be a capable tool!!

  15. I think he has his own comfy chair in the Firearms reception!!! It is comfy there actually, the Firearms department has it's own building away from Police HQ and it is like a "smart" office reception!!!
  16. Must be my sheltered upbringing in Berkshire, it's very rare round here...I thought all the gays were in Brighton!!
  17. There are loads....look up Deben, sportsmatch, bsa, etc etc etc on the web!!
  18. 3 of us out today and 1 Roe for our efforts...BUT...she/he/it was a right mix!!! Roe doe on the face of it, teats and no dangly bits, but the pips of antlers beginning to show!! Never seen one like this...do girls ever have antlers or is this a hormonally mixed up queer??
  19. Anything between 3 & BB should do, but you need to be close just the same!! First choice would almost always be a rifle though!!!
  20. Just the same as a rabbit, but you will find it takes just as long and the return is far less! ...and after this I tend to cook them whole, wrap them up in tin foil with mixed herds and spices (onion as well if you want) bit of butter and about 180C for not too long, turn whilst cooking (good to do like this on the BBQ as well).........you will get the hang of it....lot of chefs have all sorts of girlie ways of cookng but this is easy and quick, and if it is a tough one (throw it away) or cook a little longer making sure it stays moist..... anyway enough of the cookery lessons, I suspect o
  21. Use the most accurate pellet you can get in your gun. Almost certainly a domed pellet, you do not need the terminal effect of HP at 15 yards on a squirrel, accuracy, at a very small kill zone is best, and HP are not known for accuracy! As for the best way to hunt, as we have discussed ..there isn't a best way, all land and circumstances are different and so different approaches work better in different situations!! AA Field 5.51 Domed took this lot... Was that your Best Day's Shoot ? BOB/R Certainly was, and still is for Squirrels, in the normal course of even
  22. Currently CZ's on my ticket..... .22LR Style .22LR Silhouette .17HMR Silhouette .22WMR American I have recently bought The Style for my lad whos FAC should arrive any day now. No difference shooting to the Silhouette as far as I can see but that is what my boy wanted. Remember this is NOT Stainless, just looks a bit that way, but should still be a little better with the rain/damp than the blued barrel. I prefer the Silhouette for hunting for fairly obvious reasons of bright metalwork. The CZ range of Rimfires offer a superb combination of performance and price, and whilst the l
  23. nil what you at man I'm taking him out to play this afternoon (actually he's picking me up as my motor is fubared) so hopefully things will change!
  24. From my experience with both I would tend to agree but at a price around £35 for the SAK and £125 for the Whisper I'm happy to take my chances with the SAK and then throw it away and buy another in a few years if required!! The SAK is also pretty easy to strip and clean should you want to! But it will extend the rifle about 1" more than the Whisper! The DM80 I used beats them both for sound reduction........BY A FRACTION!!!.. I do quite like my Predator 8's. They are easy to strip and the Compact8 versions I have on my .223 and .243 are quite light too, on a 270 or above the nor
  25. Variations 700 SPS 700 SPS DM 700 SPS Stainless I have been considering one of these for a long time now and have the spare slot sitting there. My concerns are this 24 inch barrel, Edgar Bros are threading them now but will not remove any barrel length. I have held some and fired 1 once in this calibre (no Moderator), but I have had a lot of balance problems with my T3 Lite in .223 with a moderator which already has a shorter barrel. I don't want the same grief with a 24inch flagpole of a barrel on the Remington. So, Question for owners of any of the 3 variations of the 700 SPS
