You would not go far wrong with any of the above but consider also Browning etc shotguns, and other model Berettas, plenty of good well priced models around. On the rifle side, certainly Tikka and Remingtom would be my first choices on a budget, born out of a few years experience of various makes! £800 on some glass as mentioned somewhere else on this thread and £795 for the cheapest Silver Pigeon on Guntrader may leave you a bit tight on a rifle and another shotgun, moderators, bipods, slings, slips and all the cleaning equipment!!! Maybe just take things a bit slower!!

Never heard it described as a sloppy action before, I must disagree on this. Each to their own and I like both my Tikkas, but they have a single size action which gives a very long pull for many calibres, never really thought of a term to describe this, but I'd accept sloppy action on my T3 Lite .223 and T3 Hunter .243!!! Just got a Remmy 700SPS in .308 and the bolt is better fitting and less sloppy than Tikka! Still not descride it as a snug fit though!!!

hiho....I think humperdingle was simply trying to make the point that with a SHOTGUN you do not need a reason...you do not have to be a member of any club, you don't need land. In principle with a shotgun the police have to show why you should NOT have one. In your case, age/immaturity is likely to be a negative, so throwing in lots of positives like clays and vermin control should redress the balance! FAC is VERY different!!!

Any Edgar Bros distributor should be able to help you, you could also buy direct from CZ and bigears off this site used to sell them at a decent price!!

Range Range will be next to no different with 26 or 32 inch barrels...the more correct phrase is effective range...choke size and barrel length all effect this (as well as the cartridge), so, in effect pattern is range! A tighter pattern will give you a longer effective range, therefore, long barrel and tight choke increase effective range. Short barrel and wide choke give you a shorter effective range! Shotgun use mattydski has helped to explain that pretty well I'd say!!
-
The choke sizes are ok but I feel 26 is short! I used to have a 26 and considered it my Skeet Gun..which would hardly equate to a long range hunter! Don't see any great issues but I would have put 28 as a MINIMUM first choice for your listed requirements......... i do most of my shoot at a far distance, often around 35yrds +. i will be my new main gun moving up from a twenty so thats anything from woodcock to geese to the occaisionaly fox.

A 12g is the BEST all rounder, thats why there is dramatically more ammo and gun choice than any other guage! Nothing wrong with a 20, and I'm after one myself, but it definately isn't the best all rounder!

Sorry chap but I am always confused by this sort of post...you have been recommended a 20 for this task.....who by, why, what was the justification or rationale...why did a 20 come out as the tool of choice?????? Moderated shotguns are available!!
-
Everything effects gun ownership and the Police are getting more and more paranoid!! It isn't going to help, but should not result in a refusal if you can justify your case ........ and so long as there is nothing else!!!

possible with any gun. Fact is if you change cal it will either make pellet faster or slower depending which way you do it. I'm sure that if you go from 177 set up to 22 it will make the 22 fly faster and break the law and if you go from 22 to 177 it will go slower. Either that way or the opposite. .177 flys faster and flater then a 22 ,most air guns can been changed ie .22 500fps@11.5ftlbs / .177 770fps@11.5ftlb You have not mentioned any pellet weight BUT I think you will find a .22 with average pellet weight (14-14.5g) is much nearer to 600ft sec than 500..that is very slow

NO, is the answer, but in many situations it will assist both with hunting and staying on good terms with the neighbours..also helps preserve your hearing. And they are Sound Moderators...despite the fact the world has watched a million movies and manufacturers still call them silencers they are Sound Moderators...the only way you will get a Silencer is to put your application on the Home Secretaries desk ATB

Not fired an Anshutz for probably 5 years...BUT they don't make bad guns..not sure about this scope and a Parker Hale mod is not top of my list. I have concerns at this package for £150...what is wrong with it???
-
Until you know what you are doing, and what you want, and what you intend to do with it, forget being clever...buy a 12g! ...and it's Which..not What!! ATB!!
-
The terminal effects of ammo are only GENERALLY predictable, like a 17g ballistic tip HMR is likely to make a bit of a mess of a rabbit..... but a .243 with SP/HP/Ballistic tip etc will destroy the rabbit..you will pebbledash the whole county and find nothing but shredded skin....that HMR hole is small..trust me!! ATB!!

You CAN buy degradable clays, my main shoot HAS to use them...and they disappear pretty quickly....but no doubt cost more than normal clays which can stick around for YEARS!!!

.17 HMR V-MAX - Whats going on???????
Deker replied to hotel2zero's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Seems sensible.... and if they work ...stock up, probably no different, many other colour tips as well, simply down to a different name on the box usually!! -
You sometimes get the odd batch that has a problem, but I have let go a lot of different manufacturers .22lr over the years and as best as I can remember EVERYONES Subs has gone high velocity at some stage (even Eley) and 4 or 5 rounds have refused to go bang at all!! It happens, but some...usually cheaper ammo, may be more prone to a bigger bang than others!! Any more problems with this batch ?????

went over to Swindon yesterday to see my lad, had to turn the heater up steadily as I got further west..... still a fair bit of the white stuff in evidence!!!

Cutting and Proof work is still a nightmare... Jackson Rifles have spent a lot of time/money on this subject http://jacksonrifles.com/zz-silencers/proofcounsel.htm But the situations remains that some RFD will, and some will not cut without proof!!
-
Its 4 for a FAC and 4 for a SGC and 8 for a coterminous ...unless your region has leapt ahead of other regions..... ...hopefully they will change that VERY soon as all that most regions do now is scan one picture and the same photo shows up on BOTH certificates...just wasting our time and money getting two lots of photos!!
-
That being the case my suggestion would be to talk to your local firearms region and ignore this "Other FAC holder"!!!
-
SS has come up with the goods again above.... Having one piece of land isn't any sort of a problem at all, as long as you have the correct permission and the land is SUITABLE!!! And if it isn't, joining a gun club and applying later will not help you anyway!!! Think about it, lots of farmers and landowners have FAC and only shoot in their own "gardens"!!!

Yep...the JSR I have used are optically very good, actually they are just very good value for money!! Optical differences tend to show up most at night, long distance or high magnification. Build quality differences are usually fairly apparent!! If you are after an air rifle, rimfire or even small centrefire there is a vast range of "sensibly" priced scopes to chose from. It will tend to be true that quality costs, but depending on your requirements the cost may not be justifiable! Do you really need to spend £1300 on a Nightforce for the 12ft lb PCP??? 25 yard bunnies in t
