  1. Without going into reams of detail and definition and clarification surfice to say the answer is ....YES!!! But if you must this will help..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myxomatosis
  2. Perhaps I misunderstand the above post but I suggest you contact Falcon, http://falcon-airguns.co.uk/, if you contact Air Arms they will pass you to Falcon. A strange misconception exists in the market place that AA own Falcon, they do not. Some years ago NSP Engineering bought AA, a while later NSP bought Falcon, AA did not buy Falcon and do not own them, NSP own them both, and ALL 3 companies operate from the NSP site!
  3. Mixxy has been around for about 60 years, if you can find a way of stopping its spread you will probably get a Nobel Prize!! It does not lie dorment for up to 20 years, if it did ALL the bunnies would have been wiped out years ago. It is spread by the flea and close contact, it therefore stands to reason that it is primarily spread down the burrows. And yes..odds are it will ruin your shoot, if you have the fox too (who hasn't) then that could finish it off altogether, but there are usually enough survivors and newcomers that most shoots recover within a year or two! No set patter
  4. ...lamping from a motor on 5 acres, £1 each shot plus bonus, 60 plus on the lawn but it is pristine......definately time to get serious with something....!!! ATB
  5. Can't argue, they're not bad, for the money. Just to be clear for anyone picking this from Google later - JSR scopes have dreadful optics next to the expensive stuff, but at that price point I don't think you can beat 'em! Difficult to quantify this optics business but to be as clear as possible to all, No, the glass isn't as good as scopes costing many times the money (actually it is compared to some), but their optics are remarkably good for the money and most definately compare very well with scopes costing 2 or 3 times as much Build quality is not great, and if you have a mo
  6. I know that man...where have you been John?????? Anyway, I usually do between about 30-50 a year, this year has been particularly quiet on the fox front up to last Sunday when I had 4 and Tuesday when I had another 6. Was hoping for more on Wednesday but ended up in the middle of a land dispute with owner and tennant so I beat a retreat and let them get on with it! Out again tonight so who knows, plenty about at the moment though, often playful/experimental/inquisitive cubs!!
  7. Just back from a 3 hour session, when I arrived I ran into the Chairman of the Council and spent 30 minutes talking to him before I even walked away from the motor, and half way through the session the landowner and his misses turned up in his new Discovery having just tried a new restaurant...so another 30 minute chat. Went out to see if I could add to the rabbit tally but managed just 3 all night, possibly because the place is alive with the fox, took out 6 of them..so ended up a reasonable night, for what could only have been a couple of hours shooting at most...and the landowner is rea
  8. The Stinger is designed for CLOSE range air rifle, put a red filter on it and the range of the lamp may just reach the end of your barrel, and 70 yards is more than optimistic even without a filter!
  9. Give or take a bit that is £20 for 20 in proper money...can you get me some please, hell of a lot more round my way!!!
  10. I bought my lad a brand new one last year, blew the barrel up after about 30-35 cartridges.....it is well documented on THL, a real saga of replacement parts and guns all of which were ****..gun eventually returned for a full refund...and still waiting for an explaination/apology from Edgar Bros for nearly killing us!!
  11. I don't get this.....I just paid £220 for 1000 Blue tips and that was a good deal my way. Just found some "old" Remington in a RFD and got all he had (200) for £40 a cracking deal. I had always been able to get reasonable deals in my area but it seems just about everywhere else is doing better now!! latest price I have seen on Hornady is £18 for 50
  12. I tend to agree but magnification is a very personal thing and everyone likes what they like for whatever reason, a few weeks back at Bisley on Short Siberia 200 yards, I was on 6x and the shooter next to me was on 24x....anyway, magnification aside light transmission and clarity come high but this can be achieved in a number of relatively innexpensive scopes. What I tend to find a good judge of a scope is how well it holds zero, the cheap ones tend to be different every time you take them out. So, after all that, get as good a scope as you can afford, if you have £200 to spend don't sp
  13. I think this one has been round before...I've just bought 1000 of them at the "old" price to beat the increase and not fired one yet, still usieng up the red tips...but the labels are different.....hope they shoot as well!! The MkII tale sounds favourite to me, the RFD I got mine from told me they just mixed the pigment colour wrong
  14. I'm getting confused with this one...simple fact is .204 ammo is hard to find and limited choice and in principle a lot more expensive than .223. HMR has it's uses for sure, but is certainly not a replacement for .223
  15. Don't worry mate I understand perfectly what you and D are saying, not missed the point at all, but my style of shooting is almost invariably done prone, resting on dry stone walls or sat, (which is why I bought the tallest bipod I could find). More a sniping style than free range shooting, due to me being a little less mobile than some. It's each to his own as I said, we'd all shoot the same gun if it wasn't. As it happens my 2 rimmys are a 20" target s/s Ruger in 22, and a 24/25" s/s Savage heavy barrelled jobby in hmr. Good Hunting In the field I use the bipod as often a
  16. Like thousands of other people in this country I had a WTC 3.5-10x50, it was a great scope for the money in every respect but not entirely sure it is best suited for a .243...parallax is factory set at 100 yards and started causing me problems when the eyes started going..a real problem keeping the quarry and the reticle in focus...sold it 3 or 4 years back and got a good price for it, still as good as the day I bought it! Not sure about the Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50, it might share the same name, but I think it is from another family and not directly related to the 3.5-10x50.
  17. As has been said this is tame for a .308, had a couple just a day or 2 back with Mr L that were far worse, and this was .223 and rabbit a week or so back....... BUT...so what, .308 (or .223) not my first choice as a rabbit tool but these things happen...
  18. Chap I think you are getting a littel mixed up.... We are not talking target and if anything 25" is short for a decent long range target rifle.... Hunting is NOT target shooting..target is repeatable known distances on the whole from the same position with a trigger so fine you breath heavy and it lets go, commonly prone and with a barrel that weights a ton and goes on for a fortnight, and you don't spend all day with a target rifle hung over your shoulder walking around a range looking for your next quarry.....a world different to hunting...cutting a hunting barrel to a manageable lengt
  19. If you are looking for a sensible, easy to use, everyday hunting rifle then forget all the hype and get cutting. My .243 was one of the first pre cut Tikkas in the UK and is under 20inches. As Mr L has said, we have cronoed it and its down around 200ft sec on published figures. (NOT 200ft sec per inch..... 200ft sec TOTAL!) So?????? get used to it, it isn't going to chance your world. If you reload you will easily be able to find a powder/load to get the speed back...if you are that desperate. 25 inches is a flagpole! It isn't a target tool, it is an everyday knock them down
  20. I understand the LEGAL side of selling cut rifles has now been resolved, largely down to Jackson Rifles. Legally there is now no need for reproofing...BUT many RFD still insist on it...sort of an insurance policy for them really!
  21. If you are talking HMR then I'm happy with my CZ, I rate it an every day 100 yard tool and 150 when you know what you are doing. I have shot live quarry further, and it scores V Bulls and Bulls all day at 200 yards at Bisley. Forget Ballistic Coefficients, tables and charts..this round does NOT like the wind, perhaps its just me and I can't hold the rifle still in the wind, simple fact is when its Windy/Gusty I injure or miss a few, when it's still, they all fall down dead. They are noisy, even with a moderator. Ammo prices have just gone silly! There are those who will sug
  22. Personal comment suggests to me that just about every squaddie in the UK who has a Browning strapped on his leg wishes for a Beretta!!
  23. 22-250 is a sporting calibre not target...Bisley is set up for target work and has rules on maximum calibres, maximum ft lb and maximum speed...you have to be within ALL 3 to shoot at Bisley and the 22-250 is too fast!!
  24. What he said....they do not compare with any quality range although they do have their uses!! Spend the same or more if you can on a better used scope!!
  25. For some strange reason the Remington 17g were not good in my CZ HMR either, although the groups were better than above. Winchesters are good but the best in mine are Federal 17g V Shok and Hornady 17g V-Max, on the right day I can virtually put them in the same hole at 100 yards...this was Hornady on a good day a few weeks back, 4 shots....
