do you honestly think the police will drop everything to come out to a couple of poachers and an irrate hunter???? you will of starved to death before they would turn up and thats even if the police could find the field you were in..... Yes chap...and F*****g quick too, and if they didn't I would have the Chief Constables nuts for diner! The Police work for us as well as against us, when you need assistance you get it OR you kick up one hell of a stink!!

I can think of another excellent bit of customer service you recieved...order for a set of mounts around 11.00 yesterday and hand delivered to you only about 7 hours later!!!.......

I only have one piece of land that both the landowner and myself know suffers from poachers. The landowner has made it clear to me that I am the only person with any shooting/hunting rights on the land and to get rid of anyone else I see. I have in turn made it clear to him that I will more than happily do this, but by means of calling the police. Any advance towards, and any conflict with other persons, whilst you are holding a gun (even if it is slung over your back) is likely to get you in more trouble than the poacher!! That's the trouble with this PC world we live in!

.17 HMR V-MAX - Whats going on???????
Deker replied to hotel2zero's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
You're just trying to upset me....go sit on the naughty step!! -
Don't see a problem if you have the land and the requirement, especially as you already have a .22lr. You move to a whole new world though and have to obtain a new mindset....22lr, around 100-200ft lb, .223 around 1300 ft lb, that isn't a bit more, it is into another league altogether and for the rimfire boys devastating and awe inspiring...for example this is what happened to a rabbit a week or two back when I hit it with a 55g, .223SP at 180 yards.... So, it is the magnitude of the the change that is important to remember!! EDIT Never found any of the rest of the bunny, it was s

I totally agree a 17 is very awkward but I struggle with breaking 2 rods with a brush...I have a Dewey 17 rod and brush and it is pretty easy, the patches can be a real pain if they are just a little big though!! Perhaps a bore guide would have helped you. But then again I think my view of bore snakes for full cleaning is well known!!

You can get adapters and you can get Falcon Moderators, take a look on Falcons website, but most dealers should be able to help anyway!

There is no specific answer, Hawke scopes are made by several different firms in different countries, at the bottom end they are "cheap", at the top end they are "OK". They offer pretty good value for money throughout the range BUT they do not compete at the top end of the market!

As explained by Mr L...... but you would normally have recieved some other paperwork with your FAC/SGC which explains what you need to do in these circumstances!!
-
Looks like it has been done as a renewal variation rather than a normal variation, that being the case, as you have found out no .22 until June!

I have a mixture of Mr Dewey and Parker Hale rods and there is no question Dewey are better ...but you pay for it. Just bought a new .22 rod at the Phoenix and paid £14.50 for a Parker Hale, had the Dewey in my hand as well but they wanted £23. Parker Hale it was as I had just spent over £100 on cleaning stuff alone...but I did need to stock up on virtually ALL my cleaning fluids and brushes etc!!

See ...I was right.. you should have got that cheapy £35 scope I pointed you at...probably do a deal for £30! ...and did you notice your mate Neil from South Bucks (Dowlings) was strolling around in the crowd today??

Everyone has their own view but I don't hold with.... "Don't clean the .22LR!! If you use it exclusively for subs then the likelyhood is the ammo is lead, so pretty soft and easy to clean but the powder is still filthy and lumpy. If you use it with high velocity you may well have a copper jacket and like it or not you will leave copper traces along the bore. .22lr needs cleanig to keep it sweet in my view but no need to be quite as paranoid as with the centrefires (or HMR, WMR)

The multi calibre cleaning kits tend to be a waste of time, the tools are commonly rubbish and you will inevitably get stuff you don't want. I suggest buying rods, brushes etc for EACH calibre you require, may well cost more but a better long term investment!!

They better work...having found my usual supplier has put his price up to £26 per 100 and trying another supplier at £29 per 100 I have found the blue tips and managed to get them "down" to £220 for the 1000 I have just bought!! F*** me this ammo lark is getting silly... -
Actually it was, but bunny was facing me at the time!

I've been very quiet on the Greys so far this year, isn't it always the way...I have someone desperate for 2 from me for the table and I've hardly even seen one for about a month!!

Excellent shooting Hi thanks mate it was! Just a shame it wasent me behind the trigger really was a mate off uk varminting who convinced me i needed a PH (jamie aka silentsoleshoots308holes) this however was me @400yds the bigger group is about .8 cheers Andy Id be pretty happy to do that at 400 yards!!!

I don't see you doing both (1000 yards and deer stalking) very well with the same rifle, long deer stalks with heavy rifles are hard work and the 700 was never designed as a 1000 yard target rifle...it just doesn't work!! It is a big compromise in both areas, even customising is not going to produce one gun "good" at both, only adequate at best, and by the time you have spent all that money customising you could easily have bought 2 different guns to do each job better!!

Each to their own and I'm sure Rimfire Magic is fine but the Brooks trigger is the one I would suggest every time, mine was only a bit over £8.00 Direct but the exchange rate is not so good now...more options and variations than the Rimfire magic and it has transformed my CZ HMR!

Mr Logic has been playing with a few .223 loads recently and has kindly made a few for me, after zeroing, and in the interest of science it was down to the serious stuff......Now I don't generally use the centrefires on bunnies but this is what happened when I hit one at 180 yards with Mr Logics .223 SP.....
-
Depends entirely on the land you are on and what if anything bunny is used to seeing....I gave up on all the filters several years back and just use the dimmer switch now, works as well as anything I find!
-
There are times and there are FEO's that do try and trick you, but on the whole they are reasonable sensible people who simply want to make sure you are as well!! Just don't bullshit them, don't lie to them, if they ask a question and you don't know the answer just say so!!
-
Brummy Chill out..the law is the law and it allows shotguns in certain situations...... fact is a statement such as this is ill considered...... "Sorry but you'd be a prick to shoot any deer with a shotgun. IDIOTIC............... " What about dense woodland, humane despatch, etc, there are without doubt times when it is prudent, effective, humane and appropriate, although I'll grant you not very often!

Flippin 'ek!! Probably a few hundred more responses to come yet..is it any clearer that when the question was first asked?? and aaronpigeonplucker..if you eat a pellet, and don't break any teeth you will s*** it out, and if you eat lots they will sit at the bottom of the pan a be a pain to flush!!! Best to just use a centrefire to start with and bunny comes paunched, skinned and ready stewed..and no lead to break your teeth on!!
