  1. We have been over this one many times and the fact is two guns are really required, which will give you a great deal of versatility. However, if it to be just one then the Hornet, or possibly .22WMR!
  2. There may be others closer but I don't know, call Andy first to check availability!!! http://www.tfsa.co.uk/AMMUNITION%20PAGE.htm
  3. Thanks Deker I had a look at this lamp but uttings wont send stuf to Ireland. Do you know any where else that does them. I suspect Deben will supply direct, at top dollar of course, (but then I would have thought Uttings would to) so a search round the web could be in order.
  4. I clean all my guns and keep them clean, the centrefires every time, the rimfires very regularly! That's the way I was taught many years ago when I was a team target shooter with .22lr. It worked for me then and still does! Others will have their own opinions!
  5. I would personally not buy a .243 specifically for foxes, having said that, if I already had one and NO other suitable tool then a 58g V-Max is very effective, actually it is very effective whatever other calibre you have.
  6. Did someone drop you in by helicopter, where are the tracks to get there???
  7. Perfectly reasonable guns on the whole! Did I miss something...what calibre and what ammo were you using??
  8. ....... you are comparing 2 very different things, forget the ledray, it is an air rifle lamp at best. So the Lightforce wins hands down in this one...BUT...plenty of other lamps to look at...check out the Deben Max Pro....here... http://www.uttings.com/ Plenty of others to look at as well, this is for a .223, you need to be able to see a distance even if you do not intend to shoot a distance!!
  9. Well, I would have thought that too, and I certainly don't, but I have met a few who do!!
  10. Sounds the best plan, after all, it doesn't matter what anyone here says, it is your firearms dept you need to keep happy
  11. I've not seriously looked at these for years, but I seem to recall having one a long time ago which was perfectly adequate, but overpriced at the time, and VERY heavy, that is perhaps a bit of ancient history which may or may not be relevant today!!
  12. Ideally your man, but anyone senior in the firearms department should be able to help!
  13. I'd say that exerience will bring the right tools for the job! It's a big step from planing to execution, and often a big surprise to many that their dream gun/calibre doesn't always deliver in the way they expected! What "may" look good on paper can often come up short when the real field tests start! ATB!!
  14. I have to say I think there is too much if, what, when, etc, above for anyone to give you an accurate response. If you have the land and need, and experience these days it seems, then you shouldn't have a problem... I rather think with all the variations here the responses could be all over the place, may I suggest the best course of action is to simply ring your FEO or Firearms region and have a chat. Most are quite human and helpful, and at the end of the day what they say is likely to be a lot more relevant than what anyone here may say. ....and don't take this the wrong way..i
  15. I'm rather thinking that in the few replies so far different stories are emerging, so I suggest the best course of action is to ring your region and simply ask them what they want you to do.
  16. Well, I'd have been waiting a long time with an invalid certificate, they have never inspected my cabinet since I moved, or through several variations and renewals!!
  17. I have the T3 Hunter in .243, and the T3 Lite Stainless in .223. The .243 is the latest version with the factory shortened and threaded barrel. With innexpensive 90g SP PRVI it can deal an inch no problem, Mr L made me some home brews a few months back and it was a TIGHT cloverleaf!!
  18. 12g O/U 28 or 30" barrels, Multi Choke, single trigger, Field/Game gun, and preferably one that fits you. It's easy to say but harder to do, and I am convinced that very few people use a gun that fits them properly. Worth a look here... http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/
  19. Take this up with BASC. You are entitled by law to a sensible firearm for the job. For fox shooting, the HO guidelines recommend a centrefire. You have proven good reason and have sufficient land - since each case must, by law, be judged on its own merit, you should be granted a centrefire. Yep, I would tend to agree, but be careful how you put your case, if you tell them you keep knocking down the foxes easy with the HMR.....at about 100yds have dropped dead every one i shot ...... then you may have a problem justifying anything bigger!
  20. Centrefires are very loud unmoderated and in many ways a lot worse with a muzzle break. Moderators definately have their uses, but nothing makes a HV Centrefire quiet!
  21. I would have to suggest that I would be looking around the Hawke range(and similar)for scopes for this application, not S&B, but we all make our choices. As I have also said, you can seldom spend too much on glass, but.....
  22. I find this sort of post rather difficult. Personal view of course. You can seldom spend too much on glass but I have to ask the question, what really is the benefit in normal daily use spending this sort of money or putting this sort of quality on a rifle for air rifle ranges? 8x is too much as well in my book, but magnification is rediculously personal! ATB!
  23. How are the Wild Boar your part of the world???
  24. yeh they are fine use them all time no probs I don't have one but I am confident they handle 2.5" and 3" carts. Not sure quite how much sub sonic ammo is available for them but I know Eley do a 3" sub sonic load!
  25. ....up to near the £500 mark I hear for some...don't forget potential fitting costs as well. The best will be the one everyone has fitted on their own rifle I like the Predator 8 Compact for a whole load of reasons, others will favour whatever, as for "is it the best?"..it offers a package I can live with at the moment so I guess it is for ME! http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/
