I'm getting more than a little confused here, it seems to me that many are making assumptions that foxes only get shot at great distances, well, accept the fact that many are NOT. Without doubt the majority of foxes I shoot are within 100yards, often a lot closer, certainly a few drop between 100-200yards but very few beyond 200. I am well aware that some here take longer shots, well fine, and am I telling you to use a HMR at 250-300yards, I think not, so kindly do not tell me I should be using a CF leaning out of a householders bedroom window to drop a Fox at 50FEET! The right to

But you use it for foxes! :hmm:

Yep, more often than not, the tall 2 legged pests are the hardest to deal with!

My add in Yell.com, is under Fox Control, I also advertise in various other media, including wasps, (they are a bit quiet at the moment ), I do my best to avoid the fleas, bedbugs etc. I also do contract Fox/Deer etc. work for some National and local Pest Control companies who are not really set up for this sort of thing but want to be able to advertise a wide service. I personally concentrate on squirrel, rabbit, fox and deer, but inevitably other work comes in, and I pass out contract work as well, for example, my main Mole Man is top dollar and kept Stonehenge upright for many years.

Totally agree, if I was looking at 200 yards Open field and foxes I'd leave the .22lr at home!

I'll take that as the jovial comment you intended. Traps can be time consuming, and therefore expensive, clients commonly want quick results, to try and trap a family of 5 foxes in one garden would be all but impossible, some may be immature but they learn fast, I took the whole family of 5 foxes out in one evening shooting in the garden, actually in about 90 minutes! You don't get ricochets from a .22lr when you hit a fox in the right place, and as I already said, these jobs were surveyed and baited to appropriate shooting positions, so ricochets were about as likely as my £25,000,000

I went out specifically for a fox in these, and many other pics I have, both were baited to a close, and appropriate, shooting position and the best suited rifle was used for the job, the housing estate was a .22lr..... and the hotel/restaurant/pub lake was a HMR...... A CF was NOT the right rifle!

From the first post this was always going to develop into a 17HMR isn't up to fox debate. Some of you guys are VERY blinkered, I have used a .22lr, HMR and WMR on foxes and they have always been the right tool at the time, I have also used shotguns and a whole load of CF on foxes and they have been the right tool at the time. A CF is NOT the right tool for a fox, neither is a shotgun or a rimfire, what is the right tool is the one that any given situation dictates!

New Spartan Moderator from 3rd Eye Tactical

I have been trying to get some feedback on their rimfire mods, particularly for WMR/HMR, for ages but I am very short of information! -
If it is the one I'm thinking about I have 2, they are made by Leapers, they are exceptionally good for the money, particularly the optics, mechanically they are a pain in the arse!

Strageley enough, Rem HP Yellow Jackets were about the best HV I used in my .22 whilst their subs were probably about the worst!

Best scope for a .22 rimfire
Deker replied to Carlowhunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
i did not like the night eye sending it back this week. The Night Eye has been around for years in various guises and is a mainstay for Deben, it is a budget scope that offers a lot for the money, what is it you don't like? -
With all due respect we live in an arse covering age, if the shit hit the fan and you had a verbal response from a FEO, and he had a different version who do you think the court would believe? Email is a better option, and many forces are happy to respond in this way these days, then you have it in writing! Let them argue with that! ATB!

The norm is the norm but the only way you will find what works for you is to try some. My T3 .223 is 1-8 and can deal with everything from 40-80g very satisfactorily, I've not tried anything heavier than 80g

Many of the smaller objective lens quality scopes give better light transmission than the bigger objective lens cheaper scopes. Don't get too wrapped up in the objective size, there is more to light transmission/clarity than objective size. -
Explain yourself, why is it a shame?

Let me be the first to come out and say I don't have a clue what it is, the only A10 that comes to my mind is that weird looking Tankbuster plane!

Best scope for a .22 rimfire
Deker replied to Carlowhunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
ALL scopes and reticles get very personal, but its a .22lr, it has no kick and the range is hardly mind boggling. Hawke, NS, etc are perfectly adequate as long as you can see the quarry clearly. Spend more if you want to but be realistic, it isn't a 500yard tool with a shoulder breaking kick! -
Well, that seems a pretty overwhelming vote for Beretta, seeing as they own Benelli and Franchi!

You need the appropriate fittings for the surface you are fixing the cabinet to, this is likely to be different if it is wood, plasterboard, breeze, insulating blocks, brick, etc etc There are guidelines. One of my cabinets has side fittings into Thermal insulating blocks, back fittings into plasterboard and base fittings into wood. On top of that it has edge batton trim all round it securing it even more. Solid as a rock and a multitude of different fittings! My FEO who has only just inspected for the First time ever, was seriously impressed!

range is the same, the bolt action does have the edge on accuracy, semi autos are cheaper to manufacture as there is no bolt. a new bolt alone for say a cz is over £100. I think you have gone off key a bit there! The bolt is fundamentally the same for every Bolt Action CZ Rimfire, and they make thousands, it only costs £100 to you, the manufacturing price will be hardly any more than pennies on the amount they make. So what is it about the action of a semi that makes it cheaper?

scope and mountings sliding on my howa 1500?please help
Deker replied to gibbo1973's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
What calibre is the 1500? Something is very wrong here, even cheap mounts should be better than this, and why has this started happening after 2 years, but was apparently ok before? :hmm:
