  1. Yep, my standard T3 Lite .223 with a shitty plastic stock and magazine and £44 or JSR Scope on top landed 8 V Bulls and 2 bulls with a cold barrel, new shooter (a member here) and test load at 600 yards.....they really are useless! (PS the shooter blamed himself for the 2 x Bulls saying he didn't pay proper attention to the flags)...funny old world sometimes! ATB!
  2. in the early days i do believe having read it somewhere cci made all the17hmr rounds as they were the only people with the kit to do it, Correct. They are all made in the same factory. strange that all them threads as to which is best I know its funny. I have never found a difference between any of the ballistic tips. I use hornady red/blue tip, and my mate uses remingtons. We both interchange with no shift of zero if either one of us runs out. Maybe though that is testimony of the CZ 452 varmint. They are not all, always the same, there are batch differences as with any ammo, and there is
  3. Its a .17HMR. There is debate over who "invented" it, but most certainly Hornady, Marlin and Remington collaborated (interesting H.M.R.), I believe Ruger may have been involved as well!
  4. There isn't a best moderator, the moderator each person has is the best!
  5. They rise more between 100 yards and 200 yards, theoretically giving approx a 1" difference at 100 and 200yards, on Hornady Computer Model, but rise much higher in between, that is with a ZERO at 200 yards! If your true zero is 100 yards I would be seriously impressed if any .223 has only dropped 1" further at 200 yards! If you shoot fox at 200 yards then you can zero at 200 yards, the only way to find out what any ammo does in anyones rifle is to Zero at that distance, charts and tables are generalisations!
  6. Ok, I haven't read all this so pull me up if you like, the condition "Shooting Dogs" is virtually non existant as far as I'm aware, as is "shooting burglers" and you don't need either if you have just cause. Just the same, the condition, ALL OTHER LAWFUL QUARRY, covers your backside if in any doubt!
  7. For field work I get by fine on PRVI 55g SP, they work for me and come in at just under £50 per 100. They have gone up a LOT in the last couple of years though (like all the others). 50p Each!
  8. 1" high at 100yards  What the ***k. So, anyone tell me where your zero is, you know jack about where the bullet goes except it is 1" high at 100 yards! If you want to shoot foxes at 150-200 yards, whatever, then Zero there, don't come up with all this bull of 1"high, Zero at the distance you most commonly find a target!
  9. This is without doubt the best jacket I have ever had, and I intend to get another! Look them up for yourself, the features go on and on! This is UK size 42 or Large, (EU 52). It is all but brand new, no marks, tears or dirt and everything works. It is for sale for the simple reason I am at last losing some weight, I always was a skinny runt but when I gave up smoking a little over 6 years ago I put on 3 stone, well, I have at last got rid of 1 stone and as an incentive to help me shift the rest I intend to downsize on the Ram Jacket, so this has to go. They list about £220 the
  10. It doesn't need to be providing the ground has been passed for that caliber and you have permission. Correct, but this is business, Open FAC required!
  11. On the few occasions I have had a fox hit 20lb that is a time to celebrate, 30lb is enormous, never been close!
  12. I have to look at a new site early next week which is suffering from Canadas, a lot apparently, I am busy at the moment so I may have some shooting work available for someone. Please don't get all hysterical and emotional on me, this is a Canada clearance job, which the site has failed to solve in over a year, this is Pest Control, pure and simple. A Rifle will be required for what will most likely be 100% ground shooting. If you are available/interested probably best to PM me. Cheers EDIT For Clarification. Shotguns are a non starter from what I already know of the site. Yo

  14. Yet another difference, because up here the only people in the office are the feo's. Ha Ha, that could well be true, it is not uncommon to make a call to Thames Valley Firearms and be answered by a temp from some agency who doesn't have a clue.
  15. That is of course correct, but that doesn't quite present the picture. The FEO will submit his report, and it will be rare those higher up reverse his recommendations, so does he have any power or not, I'd have to suggest he does, that is his job after all, he is the one that sees you and is given the responsibility of interview, etc, so what he says normally goes. Put it like this, if you apply for something, and the pre visit checks would leave the office in a 50/50 situation about granting, then I rather think the FEO turns into a very important man from your point of view. Don't
  16. Yep, challenge them, and it does help if you have an idea what you are talking about, so do some background work. I think it was Shooting Times (one of the shooting mags anyway) that very recently ran an article saying exactly the same, challenge them, don't simply put up with some of there daft stipulations/conditions!
  17. Sorry chap, who told you that bull, just what is it about, for example, a .222 at potentially 1000ft lb+++ that they consider unsuitable for fox?! Ask them if they consider a .223 suitable for shooting a fox at 20 yards in the Hay Barn, right next to the Farm House and Stable block! :hmm: Point them in the direction of Page 77 of the Home Office Firearms Law Guidance to the Police and ask them why they know better than the Home Office? This is rubbish, plenty of people in Wales have less than a .223 conditioned for fox!
  18. The issue here is that some police forces will not grant you a .17 for fox and insist on a minimum of .223. However if you want only one caliber and they allow it for fox the .17 would be your best choice. However you would be better off also applying for a .22 for rabbits because the bullets are a lot cheaper. As far as ranges go ask 100 people get 100 different answers but .22 on rabbits 75yds-100yds .17 75yds -150yds. I'm not going to give you a figure for fox because I can't legally shoot them with my .17 WHAT??????? who insists on a minimum of .223 for fox??? Just why have they di
  19. :hmm: what have you applied for? What have you listed as your intended use? Your questions are very vague and very wide? A .22WMR is a rimfire, do you mean that or a centrefire? Perhaps a bit more info will bring you some answers!
  20. You haven't read what I have said, you haven't understood, and you have misquoted and put your own slant on things to justify your case. Perhaps one day you will understand! :bye:
  21. I have been doing this a VERY long time, I have 8 FAC tools and an assortment of shotguns and air rifles/pistols. This is how I make a living and is also my sport, and despite what many think I will be the first to admit I don't know it all. What my experience has brought me is familiarity with MANY rifles and ammo types, I have a good idea of the suitability and limits of each, and their different ammo, in many many situations, that's why I have so many rifles, 2 of them are .22lr, the rest are all different, I take out the most suitable rifle for every job, I don't take out a .22lr to shoo
  22. You are still missing the point entirely, 600 yards with a .223 at a range isn't an experiment, the rifle is well known to be perfectly capable at that distance under range circumstances, 1000 is capable, 1200 yards may be an experiment with it! My .223 1,300ft lb, your .22lr with Eley subs less than 100ft lb! :hmm: We have a lot of different calibres and types of ammo for a reason! I don't have any crow examples but this may help to explain what I mean, hit a rabbit at 150-200 yards with a .22lr and the odds are you may spend some time looking for the hole it made, this bunny was hit at a
  23. You will never NEED anything more than the CZ, some just like other rifles. I don't like heavy barrels, others do, what leads you to the Varmint? My HMR Silhouette
