I agree entirely for your own tools, I was after a general comparison of the Rimfire rounds!

.22lr accuracy - paper punching testing
Deker replied to riflehunter583's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My .22lr is zeroed for 60 yards and is a dedicated sub sonic tool, it is very rare I would go out to -90 yards with it, shooting well at those distances with one is good going in my book. 100 yards with a HMR is a different matter, that's why I don't use the .22lr at distance generally, this is about the best I have done with the HMR, it was a zeroing session, and I bottled out of the 5th shot! 3 and 4 were only a tiny fraction off being in the same hole! -
Cheers for that! I'm sure someone posted something showing the wind drift of the 4 main rimfire calibres, which I found rather interesting. Perhaps I'm just getting old and forgetful!
-
Help please, a year or two back someone posted a chart which showed the comparison with a .22lr, HM2, HMR, WMR both fall and wind drift, can anyone steer me in the direction please, I can't find it. Cheers!

fox with the hmr Sorry guys, this really has wondered off all over the place!

Mine runs 25-26ft lb, yes, the time of year/temperature does effect it! 23-24 ft lb is a good rating for these , 30ft lb is tops (actually I got mine up to 36ft lb, don't even think about it, every shot was different), and 30ft lb is too high for them, shot count is not good and shot consistancy worse! Mine produces 32 full power shots at 26ft lb and favours AA Field in 5.51 (the 5.52 give about 0.5ft lb less). Bisley Magnums are excellent in mine but still have a bit of an arc, so I stick with the AA!

Nope, its .22, it's also 26ft lb, that can help a bit! EDIT A LEGAL 26ft lb!

If you can do it then fine! But I think you have the wrong rifle for your intended use! If I was after long range crows (120yards +++) I wouldn't even be thinking about a .22lr. HMR, .17CF or maybe even a .204! I have a site where I can get down prone, off the bipod, and head shoot a few Canadas at spot on 100 yards with the HMR, I wouldn't even think of trying with a .22lr! -
I used .22 for about 10 years and then switched to .177 for the next 10. Literally thousands of bunnies in the field have helped me form my opinions regarding both calibres. .177 kills better than .22 in 12ftlbs guise,in my opinion,oh and 30 years of shooting experience, i used to have a nice second hand falcon fn19 air gun when i was a kid. it was over the limited at about 14fpe. i sold it but regretted it alot after. i used it on a few bunnies and it was the best air gun i ever had and i have had a few. it was .177 cal. it nocked rabbits over perfectly. 60 yard heat shot on a rabb

No it doesn't, Velocitors are 40g HP, they run at 1435 ft sec with 183ft lb at the muzzle and go transonic at just short of 100 yards, therefore stability is debatable. They are a high speed, heavy HP hunting rounds, designed for small game, they are not a Target round. Whilst every barrel has it's ammo preferences, even the best target barrel is not going to make Velocitors accurate at 120 or 180 yards as mentioned, especially in strong winds, and a field rifle is likely to be worse! "cci volocitiors are a bit wild"...well you got that right, if you can show me any rifle that will d -

Ask him if he knows anyone who designed things like this for the Special Forces. Sorry, this is getting silly now, I think this thread has passed it's sell by date! ATB!

It is good practice to limit fox shooting (or any other shooting) to the ability of the shooter and the tool he is holding!

Who said you should? I am somewhat confused by your first 2 posts, just what point are you trying to get across that has not been covered in this thread several times already? I am very cautious and sceptical very often as many here know, you joined at 12.40 today and decided to enter this thread as a starter, I take it you are richmcgin come back for another bite! rmac ..... richmcgin

Yeh, I can see where you are coming from, but here's my rational, I spent 10 years as a .22lr Rifle Team member, over 9 years as coach of that team, I have also shot at Bisley for many many years, there is no doubt that these groups are possible, under the right conditions, with the right rifle and ammo and with the right shooter, but ....................... Last time I looked the Browning 52 wasn't a target rifle and Velocitors are a joke accuracy wise, then we add in strong winds as mentioned in part of the post above, but still 0.5" groups at 50 yards with them and a 10 shot 2" group at -

Sorry chap, there is very little that would convince me that was true, even if I saw it myself I would check my medication! "2, to posible 1" groups at 120yards, and 1.5" groups at 180 yards with a .22lr. You are pulling someones plonker, especially if you are suggesting Velocitors can do that! -
Ha Ha, this thread has already spawned what should have been probably half a dozen or more OTHER individual threads, and off we go again..... Ask for "ALL LAWFUL QUARRY" next time and see what happens!

According to a recent BASC magazine, fox falls under the LEGAL definition of vermin. It would therefore be unlikely any prosecution would succeed. The other thing to consider is that a firearm certificate doesn't stipulate that the fox, CANNOT be shot with a hmr, or .22. No it doesn't but it also doesn't say you can't shoot wild boar with it either, yes I know this is an exaggeration but I don't think that could be used as a defence, I was told clearly by my FAO SY Police do not allow the use of rimmy on fox... Just shows how there is a lack of standardisation, .222 and up for

No, and that just underlines the stupidity of the system!

:hmm: Does 12ft lb mean anything to you, whilst a heavier .22 pellet will carry it's energy a fraction better than a lighter .177 pellet, the difference will have minimal effect in the field. Energy transfer will also be virtually identical as long as they both stay in the quarry? From a starting point of sub 12ft lb it isn't worth the debate! What exactly do you purport to do?

Shooting Glasses, they sell a lot more than that....
