  2. Not on a day like today it wont.. next to useless calibre in my opinion it completely lacks versatility and just became something 'trendy' to have, most people i know either dumped them or never bothered in the first place :hmm: :hmm: Just what versatility are you after, it does what it says VERY well, if your mates don't need what it does then they bought the wrong gun, I struggle to see anything trendy about it, it is a functional tool!
  3. A sub sonic .22lr has the power to stop a fox at 100 + yards no problem. The simple fact is to keep this humane you need to know the rifle/ammo/ballistics very well and be able to deliver the shot precisely to do that. 100 is not normally a distance to consider for fox, if you need that range, or further, then you need to consider a different tool. no it would be more so just for rabbits. as anything bigger would do to much damage to a rabbit. What kind off money would second hand or new cz be ?? cheers Ollie Chap, I could shoot a bunny with a .308 (as could many
  4. So...an A bolt, a Simmons 3.5-10x50 WTC, is that a Sako Mod and a Deben Max, and just 4 bunnies, well everything else seems ok so perhaps cleaning the rifle will improve the bag!!   ATB! It is a 'Sak' mod,Sako don't make mods. They were the only pics I could find as I don't normally take pics of bunnies.Plus those in glass houses and all that 'Ken'.....lol :hmm: Steady on, Sako do/did make mods, this is one on the end of my WMR, and if that is a SAK I'll eat that fox!  ATB!
  5. been there done that twice a cz452 american 8 years ago and an arni 1517 thumbhole the other year sold both and went back to the 22lr exotic calibres come and go the good ones stay the course Not sure I'd call a HMR an exotic calibre? And a .22lr and a HMR are very different animals in my book! ATB!

  7. Maybe things changed and I missed it but............ I believe you will find in England and Wales it MUST be AAA. In Scotland it is AAA or Larger! Ignoring the Humane dispatch element here!
  8. The 511 is very possibly the BEST out of the box Semi you can buy, even though it looks like it was designed after the Christmas Party at the RNIB!
  9. jamie Pleased with the debate and your input, it would be good if someone else could join in and put a case for these as well, but others seem a little quiet, this is genuinely a learning curve for me and I'm really trying to get as much as I can on these little centrefires...AND COST! Just how much is the ammo, factory and reloads? HMR 245ft lb and 2550ft sec good for longer bunnies that the .22lr can't handle and close(ish) fox. (I'm happy to take fox out to about 100 yards with the HMR) WMR 320ft lb 1850 ft sec hits fox and geese like a train (30g Ballistic tips abou

  11. Funny one this, and it crops up lots. I had one of the very early Anschutz in the UK back in the 70's, for target work, f**k me it was a breath of fresh air over the old Martini everyone used at the time, and didn't everyone love it. BUT BUT BUT>>>>>>>>The reality is for field work there is next to NOTHING in all of them, they all shoot more than accurately enough and they are all more than reliable enough, just what more do you want? Ok some get excited about wood, some are happy to pay an extra £100-£150 for a rifle because the trigger is good (£15 pays fo
  12. Start with a CZ, because it does everything you will want for field work. If you don't like it, then what don't you like that something else does better? Buy that then, whatever it is let us all know, and why!
  13. Life has changed a lot here since the 2007 Deer Act Amendment, but in principle you MUST use AAA. This could get very deep and very complicated, and lets not go the Humane Dispatch route too far, but there are times a shotgun is the tool of choice, there are a lot more times when the appropriate rifle is better suited.
  14. Cheers for this, and I make the point again I ask out of curiosity, I'm not having a go at the 17, just trying to understand. You are certainly limited on .243 ammo choice at 4000 ft sec, but it can be done, I have used it, excellent and of course frangible! Much 17 doesn't make it that fast anyway as attested in previous posts here. How much for 17 ammo? MORE than .243 commonly if you can find it I understand. Help me out with this reloading question as well from a couple of posts back, which someone hasn't responded to, is this me going mad or is someone GENUINELY suggesting t

  16. Look, I'm a respectable shot with anything and a fraction better with a target tool. I hear comments along these lines all the time, rigidity, not bedded, stock flexing...so what? A badly suited round/gusting conditions/etc, will likely cause more problem than these isssues. It's a 22-250, does it matter if you can put them all in the same hole or have a 1" spread? And consider a .243 and lighter V Max ammo, stonking calibre and ammo and so easy to shoot over a 22-250!
  17. Look, I don't know and I don't reload, I know **** all first hand about the 17 centrefires really, but from what I hear that is unbelievable. Help me out, a breakdown of that would be interesting, forget all the background equipment required lets just settle for the basic cartridge costs Case Head Powder Primer You can do all that for 20p a round? :hmm:
  18. Guys I don't have, and don't know a great deal about the 17 CF. You have to help me out here, despite your possible first reactions I am not trying to take the piss, but why bother? The 17 are reasonably fast, the .243 (for instance) is conceivably faster, hits harder and is arguably much more versatile, and by all accounts doesn't cost any more! So, what does the 17 have going for it? :hmm:
  19. Whats the story with this, is it still available?
  20. This is what happens when you put the 5th one in Deker, but it is .243 @ 100yds..... M Ha Ha, .243 is easy, mine go in the same hole! But after 3 in the same hole I stop wasting ammo! Couple of clicks left and a few down perhaps!? Good shooting Martin,.......... and yes I didn't let go the 5th because as soon as I saw the group I got nervous, and instinctivly knew in that state I couldn't put a 5th in. .... ...but 3 and 4 were as close to the same hole as you could get. ATB!
  21. Having a tidy up and found these, surplus to requirements, so here goes...... BOTH sets of mounts are new and never mounted, both are Double screw ALL round and both are 9-11 or 3/8 fitting with 1inch tube. Hawke Match Mounts LOW Mounts £11 posted! Rhino HIGH Mounts £11 posted. Any questions fire away! Cheers Deker
  22. I throttle any downed but not out birds - pass out within 10 secs, dead shortly after. Strangely peaceful and satisfying (does that make me a bad person? ) D. ha ha..probably... What you really need to do is swing them as hard as you can and smash their head on the edge of a water butt, lay them flat and stamp on their head, give them to the terrior to rip apart, drown them, etc, etc...you know.... or failing that, perhaps one of these..... http://www.solwayfee...p7401-c357.html
  23. In what respect, not as accurate, not as reliable? Some rifles MAY look prettier, but pretty doesn't stop things, there is plenty of trigger work you can do on a CZ for next to no money if you need to. Does the quality of the wood make it shoot better...NO! So ........... they dont come close to the likes of Anschutz, Sako or Weihrauch,.............. Just what does that mean, they cost a load more and look prettier (not the Weihrauch ), because they certainly DON'T shoot any better for field work, and just what more do you want of a rifle?
  24. Don't stand if you can sit, don't sit if you can lay down. Take every advantage available for every shot, if that means prone and a bipod that will usually bring the best results. Same applies to EVERY caribre! ATB!
