Alsone You have an interesting turn of phrase, 3/4lb is massive when you have been carrying it all day. You really do need to stop reading so much and actually do it, when did you last walk around all day with a rifle combo weighting 12lb plus and then do the same with a 10lb combo. It doesn't matter how big and fit you think you are, you WILL notice the difference! So, just how much does any rifle you own weight fully set up?
-
Yep, 30 rounds in the mag, fully set up and away you go, that is light! Lighter than pretty much any heavy barrel Varmint/tactical sporting centrefire you can name!
-
....because I don't find it difficult and 3/4 pound is nothing, but then again whilst I'm not some huge lumbering hunk, I'm not a particularly small or slightly built guy either... I think at the end of the day its each to their own. Buy what you fancy and what you believe in, as belief in your equipment is an important factor to accuracy as well. I believe in heavy. It reduces recoil for definite. Many would say it increases accuracy, certainly the military think so, but then again they shoot at much longer ranges, and rabbits, deer etc don't shoot back if you miss them! However,

Yeah, Howas, offer a good selection at sensible money, nothing wrong with them. "Personally" I can't stand the Hogue Stocks, others have an orgasm over them!

hi mate all I do is rough shooting duck flighting and pigeon decoying now and again, ive seen one for sale not to far and cheap so was thinking about getting it I was after a maxus but this came up at a good price mate Well, you will need non toxic for the duck, but as for 31/2", thats down to you. Sounds to me the gun will be fine and offer you flexibility!

There's only 3/4 of a pound difference between the two. Are you really saying you can't carry 8.5 pounds all day as opposed to 7.75? It seems heavy vs light is opinion that divides the shooting world: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/bull-barrels-36165/ I think some of it will come down to personal build as well. If you're ten or eleven stone you might want a lighter gun. If you're 6ft+ and 15+ stone (fit not flab), then a heavy barrelled weapon will probably not bother you for carrying in the slightest. I tend to be a bit sceptical of people who say they can't ca

I have no use for a HEAVY field rifle, if others want them fine, waste of time and counter productive as far as I'm concerned, if I'm out walking for a few hours, or day, I want light! There is no discernable difference in accuracy over sensible distances in the field and any percieved accuracy benefit can easily be outweighed by your state of exhaustion carrying the thing. Scopes get very personal and mods are getting better all the time! ATB

If it doesn't you need to take it back. Put simply 31/2" chambers currently exist to accomodate non lead shot, which in all cases weights less, so you need a bit more. What purpose do you actually want the gun for?

SOLD NOW!

The Sidewinders are ok, I have one of the older models and one of the new ones. Plenty of scopes about at that money, or less, I would go for in preference on an air rifle, they are pretty heavy too.

What...mine cost £150 BRAND NEW 2 years ago, that is some inflation!

We are talking a 12ft lb .25. Something funny going on here...speed of sound 1116ft sec, 23g .25 pellet achieves 480ft sec at 11.8ft lb, therefore the pellet arrives in 125ms on a target 20 yards (60ft) away. The noise arrives in 54ms at that same target, so the rat has to react to an unexpected noise AND move in 71ms. :hmm: If ratty was closer and a lighter pellet used he would obviously have even less time, but of course further away/heavier pellet a bit more time. Frankly I think it unlikely, and if someone keeps missing I think other areas need exploring!

Ags Swat Mil Dot 4-16-56 For 222 Rifle
Deker replied to lampingking's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Exactly what I have, AGS 4-16x56 swat, mine is about 10 years old. Glass is good and it holds zero, which is just as well as turning the turrets is like steering a boat, click, click click and nothing, click, click click, nothing, click, click click, hell, its gone too far now! They may be better now! -
Am I reading that right, the rat heard the rifle fire and moved before the pellet arrived? Rats (and many other animals) have very quick reactions, but even given the relatively slow speed of a 12ft lb .25 in relation to the speed of sound, no rat is going to get out of the way of a travelling pellet because he heard it. If they moved in the video you saw I suspect it was for another reason! ATB!

A .25 running at 12ft lb is probably as close as you are likely to get to the perfect ratting gun, the problem is it is pretty useless at anything else!

I had spent around 3 years on and off playing with semis and toying with the idea of buying one before I invested, I kept coming back to the 7022. It is as light as they come, easy to work on and shoots all the ammo I have tried in it. The trigger is poor and I thought that would lead to bad results, not much you can do with them except fettle, (they improve with use anyway), but the groups are remarkably good. I keep it clean and it doesn't jam, the only problem I have had with ammo is with a bad batch of Winchesters which I was testing for another member here and a box of Remington sub

It is heartening to see the old faithful .22lr, is on virtually everyones list!

The 16" Silhouette is now sold. THANK YOU to everyone who has shown an interest.
-
Well, that's out of order if you ordered one part and he fitted a different one. I know very little about the Evolution except its meant to be a bit smaller and lighter and designed for up to medium action rifles. No idea about sound reduction figures but seems a little cheaper. Are you going to run with it or get a Compact?, can you post up pics/review if you keep it, as I say I don't really know anything about these. ATB!

Informing Fao Of Intention To Reload
Deker replied to let'sshoot's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
As they count to your allocation they should be on your FAC! A-Max doesn't count (the fact it expands is neither here nor there, it is classed as target not expanding), and, for all I know a few other target bullets, with similar features may not count either. Expanding bullets do as far as I'm aware and should be on FAC. I'll hold my hands up to not being an expert here as I don't reload, but I do buy the stuff and indeed hold bullets for others when they need some extra storage capacity, the expanding go on ticket. -
We all have different requirement (or expectations or wishes). I have to cover a lot of quarry in a lot of different situations and I need the right gun to hand. I am not a gun collector, they are tools, I have what I need, I don't need the 16" Silhouette now, so its up for sale!
-
Lots of CF and shotguns to add to that lot, and the FAC air rifle. I currently have 4 cabinets. (2x9gun, 1x5gun, 1x3gun..mine all get stored clean/dry and in their slips)

The standard supplied mags for the T3 are all the same size for small and medium action, and simply adapted for different calibre of ammo, that being the case small calibres hold more, bigger calibres less. Larger capacity mags are available from Tikka for all calibres which can hold more than the standard mags! I also understand there may be some third party mags out there as well, no idea what their capacity may be!
