  1. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/vermin ver·min (vûr′mĭn) n. pl. vermin 1. Various small animals or insects, such as rats or cockroaches, that are destructive, annoying, or injurious to health. 2. Animals that prey on game, such as foxes or weasels. This Fox/Vermin debate has raged for as long as I can remember and has only been complicated/confused by many Firearms Depts. Originally ALL my rimfires contained the word fox as well as vermin, and some years back when my FAC came back from a variation much of that was gone and replaced by AOLQ, so that's easy now! Just the same any r
  2. Life moves on, and it is interesting to note that some do not appear to acknowledge assorted traps, plastic tubes, straps, staples and screws as gadgetry! There are plenty of very skilful people out there experienced in many things, and very often old ideas remain in place for many, many years with only minor tweeks, because they work, it doesn't mean new technology doesn't have a place! The world is often slow/reluctant to encompass new technology, there are plenty of electronic calls about today, a few years ago there were none.
  3. Mine is a 452 Silhouette, the site had been well surveyed and researched, the foxes baited and timed, all shot on a School sports field from a prone position off a bipod using a NS200. The HMR was the tool of choice for the job and worked. Final visit removed the last of 8 foxes in total from the site, very early start for this one and caught him on his way home, stuck around a while and the opportunity to remove a few more pests from site developed, all HMR V-Max, eventually went home about 09.00! That was a good site, everything went like clockwork, they don't always work out
  4. ....yeah, what on earth is that malarkey about FAC Air? :hmm:
  5. Use what works for you, the 17g V-Max works for me, the 20g "can" zing right through! My HMR gets best results and now dedicated with 17g V-max. Close to just over 100 yards, 4 shots, 4 fox 17g V-Max!
  6. Should be pinned really, gets asked a lot!
  7. Ammo choice/type will depend on what your rifle likes and what you intend to shoot at (commonly your pocket as well). I am very fortunate that all my Centrefires can deliver 1" with PRVI. My T3 Lite .223 is 1-8 and gets by just fine with PRVI 55g SP, that does everything I need in the field, I also get home brews which will go in the same hole, but 1" or 1 hole at 100 yards makes very little difference to most quarry.
  8. Nothing to stop you calling or writing to your region in the mean time if you want, but a chat during the visit or previous phone call may well be fine!
  9. Many manufacturers sites have tables/charts/ballistic guides, here is one! http://www.federalpremium.com/products/rimfire.aspx
  10. Yeah, stick with the HMR, despite what many may suggest it is generally better than a .22lr in the wind, certainly NO major advantage to head for .22lr because of windy conditions! http://www.federalpremium.com/products/rimfire.aspx Compare a few for yourself!
  11. ...and posting a picture will bring results in seconds most likely!
  12. TVP are really quick. I had my initial interview on the Monday and my Cert. Arrived on the Friday. I have known Thames Valley for many many years, that was not always the case I can assure you, but I hold my hand up and give praise where it is due!
  13. SGC times can be bad, but FAC can be a year, I know it sound daft, but it is also true!
  14. Last Friday I sent off my FAC, SECOND Class post for a 1 for 1 like for like variation, it arrived back today, 6 days total (including a weekend), complete and correct. I am surprised, but pleased and impressed............... well done and thank you Thames Valley!
  15. The Remi Tactical and T3 Varmint are both excellent rifles, BOTH are too heavy and of no use to a tart like me, but if you like, and are used to heavy rifles, then you will be happy with the Tikka. I'd just buy a Hunter personally! ATB!
  16. Had mine about 2 years, it hasn't seen that much use but in the right environment I think they are great. Needs care on setup and obviously location, anchorage as always has to be spot on and the snare is showing signs of wear (but available as a spare, or make your own) .
  17. Car mechanics, tiling, furniture assembly, plumbing, pest control, gardening...the list goes on and on, lots of people dabble to a level and know when to stop and get help, many people are very capable of DIY in all manner of areas. But to be fair there are very few RICH pest controllers, this is not an industry known for high pricing. How much does your plumber cost? http://www.pimlicoplumbers.com/services/plumbing
  18. earth-thrower So you and a few others don't like it, it doesn't work for you, is expensive and has no place, I have no business using it, I don't know what I am talking about and should withdraw it as an option! I am more than fed up banging my head against a brick wall here. Which part have you failed to understand? You appear to have a completely closed mind and refuse to acknowledge any of my comments or accept anything but traditional mole catching methods, if you want to continue with traditional methods where have I ever told you not too, kindly do not suggest you
  19. Seconded No time limit exists in law. As above!
  20. Loads of cleaners/oils on the market, everyone will have their favourite/preferred options, Legia is useful for a quick once over, but I have a cupboard full of the usual, and many I have tried and not been a fan of!
  21. Certainly worth a try, and probably the best option, but note the word GUIDE!! No it is not, but if the police have reason they can decide pretty much whatever they like, it is a complete pain in the arse for most, but they are simply arse covering themselves, mentoring for centrefires has been quite common for many years, but is wondering into the realms of rimfire as well, I did my first mentoring for a HMR owner circa 5 years ago, and he already had a 80ft lb Daystate on FAC and a long standing SGC! Either ask the question yourself of the Firearms Dept or talk to your shooti
  22. Anyone involved in the pest control side will wear gloves in anything remotely approaching a risk situation, cuts or not. If they have any sense they will also carry hand sanitiser/wipes for use afterwards as well! I don't personally know of anyone who has contacted the disease but it is a very real threat and to be taken seriously. Barrattine used to offer free credit card size medical carry cards, not sure if they still do!
  23. You can put poison and traps wherever you like, plenty of species specific tamper proof bait boxes available and boxes to insert traps in. Get to a decent Country store, even DIY/Hardware/Tack store, or take a look on the web!
  24. May I once again refer you to my first post on this matter, (#20) and may I one again ask which part of that you find confusing, I am not and never have entered into any debate as to which is best, both have a place, I simply refuse to write off Gas treatments out of hand as you appear to. The point you seem to be repeatedly missing is that I retain an open mind and survey each job, then move forward in the most appropriate way, you are suggesting there is no other way! You are wrong. I have NEVER said gas is better than other methods, read my first/other posts again. It is simply
  25. How on earth would you define best? The fact is there isn't one, there is only the best for you! The difference in accuracy, reliability, repeatability between them all isn't worth the debate. Money wise there can be substantial differences. CZ offer a wide selection of rifles, at reasonable prices (within the market place) nobody will ever NEED more than a CZ can deliver for field use, some simply want something else! So, in short, get what you want!
