To Soon To Apply For Different Gun ?
Deker replied to Adrian Prisk's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The FEO told him he could shoot a close range fox BUT WOULD NOT condition the ticket for it! why? Probably because Fox is vermin, his FAC is conditioned for vermin and so there is no need for fox to be listed! :D -
To Soon To Apply For Different Gun ?

Seems to me the only person here unclear of what vermin means is you. The police do not/will not, need to bring a case to court for clarity, vermin is defined in the English language. Nobody is pushing any boundary, if your FAC says vermin, then you can shoot fox, as the OP has already been told by his FEO, which part of that says vermin is not fox and needs clarification? -
To Soon To Apply For Different Gun ?
Deker replied to Adrian Prisk's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
There is no letter of the law, vermin has not been defined in law because there have been no prosecutions, there will not be either, first off, because the word vermin is defined in the English Language, and second, because it would not be in the public interest to bring a case. His FAC is conditioned for Vermin, vermin is defined in the English language to include Fox, hence he is complying with his FAC conditions. The Home Office Guide is a GUIDE! Dictionary definition, in the Public Domain ver·min (vûr′mĭn) n. pl. vermin 1. Various small animals or insects, such as rats or cockroac -
To Soon To Apply For Different Gun ?

It usually states on your ticket what your allowed to shoot. If you have All Lawful Quarry, then you're ok. If not and you have eg. vermin, ground game and other small quarry against the HMR. Then you can't shoot fox (its regarded as medium quarry). Some would argue its vermin but I'm using the headings from the Firearmas Guidance Tables as It's these the police would most likely rely on in Court. He has already been told it is ok to shoot Fox with his HMR by his FEO. Argue as much as you want about fox being Medium quarry, any size description does not change it status, fox -

Who knows about the accuracy of this, some figures seem to leave questions!

I have read the pinned Crayfish thread, very useful! A bit more if anyone can help me please. Never tried but fancy a go, I have water and application to the EA is done. Any advice on net type, good, bad, those to avoid, seems a lot of price variation around the web. Who knows if I will take to this, so I'm not looking for Rolls Royce equipment to start with but would like to avoid rubbish. Oh yes, and what bait do you recommend, it will be river use. Any other advice, tips, hints on how best to catch much appreciated Many thanks.

If your FAC is not Open it will contain words along the lines of...by the Chief Officer of Police, your mate isn't him!

As paulus above.....and unless you know for sure the land is cleared you need to check, he may have had an Open FAC! -
I have Tikkas in .223 and .243 and was advised against a Remington 700 in .308 due to it being so inferior to the Tikka. I was a little nervous but after a good look around went for one, that was 6-7 years ago, barrel length was an immediate issue and I had about 3.5-4" (can't remember exactly now) cut straight off the barrel, the stock is original, as is the whole of the rest of the rifle, and it is has the X-Mark Pro trigger. It does for me and delivers PRVI 150g SP to 1" all day! I hate floor plates though, give me a magazine every time, that is my only niggle. I am yet to find the pa

:hmm: Plenty of BA have 10 shot mags that stick out a bit, if you don't want a 25/50 shot banana on a semi don't use one!?
-
Can you help please, what is all that malarkey around the scope, why is it mounted so high? Cheers
-
All semis come with inherent issues over bolt action, just the same, commonly much to much is made of it if you are in the bunny bashing business! As CC #4. 10/22 are overrated but have a position, lord knows why they are the market leader, they are not the best out of the box that's for sure! From experience I would take the CZ or Anschutz any day over a 10/22, but I get by just fine with my cheap and cheerful Magtech 7022.

Ssg's Through A 1/2 Choke? Wreck The Barrel?
Deker replied to ROB.BOB's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
SSG should be fine at Full Choke, just the same I stay at half for my SG. As a matter of interest what use do you have for SSG? Cheers -
The Fluted/rifled slugs is designed to compress to accommodate tight chokes, if it only stopped 3" from the barrel end I suggest under cartridge pressure it would be fine, that is what they are designed for!
-
As CharlieT has mentioned the main use of the rifled/fin look on slugs is to allow for assorted chokes, these tend to give the slug only a little spin!
-
Rifled slugs would often be used, weight and shape adding to stability, I understand they don't actually spin much, or a sabot would commonly be used in a rifled barrel. As already mentioned, accuracy over distance is a joke, but they do the job close, very limited use really in this country just the same!

Cheap dimmer, about £2.50 I seem to remember from China I have stripped the Dimmer unit out...... and rewired my Max with the dimmer circuit completely contained, Centre control is the Max beam adjuster, the rotary control to the right is the dimmer. The two slot head electrical bolts visible hold the circuit board in place internally, perhaps a drop of black paint on them sometime. Excellent performance and much neater and less wiring than before! One lead out of the Max now direct to the battery (via fusing and connector at battery end as previously), I

I was not aware they did such a Hawke Varmint!?

Mount Clearance - Medium Or Low
Deker replied to Tornado1979's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
Once you know the gun/ammo the difference is hardly monumental, just the same, as sensibly close to the barrel as possible is always best! -
Top is the new 4-16x44SF(.22WMR), 3rd down is the older 3-12x42(.22lr). They are perfectly adequate for my requirements and have worked within my expectations, I have never had to refuse a shot due to the scope and have no interest in upgrading either, but I prefer the SF to front.

Ppu Ammo Stockists In West Of Scotland
Deker replied to Striker11's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Almost any ammo is suitable for a bit of zeroing and breaking in a new rifle. After that you need to try a few and find what works best for the rifle and quarry. Zero should be checked for any change of ammo, or indeed any batch change of the same ammo to be sure! PPU works well enough for me in all field conditions in .223/.243/.308! -
Sorry chaps, I was not trying to start an international incident. Why does anyone want to know about the Bugatti Veyron, hardly anyone can afford one, why do people want to try a .5 Barrett, a pretty pointless bunny gun, etc. As it happens I run my own Pest Control company and knowing your opposition is a good idea, whoever they are!

:hmm: :hmm: What are you talking about, I have no interest whatsoever working for Ecolab and I'm not looking for a job with anyone. Thank you!

Crumbs...thanks, but this was just curiosity, I'm not trying to sell my soul to them!
