These were my initial thoughts too Deker, just wasn't sure if I was maybe assuming too much. The ammo allocation is for 500 rounds RF. Anyway, all shall be revealed when I speak to my FAO tomorrow Cheers The real tragedy here is that almost certainly your region are assuming too much, not you. In these situations they will actually tend to mean .22lr, frankly it is ridiculous and they deserve a good kicking if that is the case. How difficult is it to write .22lr as opposed to .22RF if that is what they meant!

How so? If there's a fox and deer issue (for example) then they're two good calibres to request. A good reason is a good reason whether it's the first ticket or tenth renewal. A good FEO will be able to discuss this with him and assess the suitability, experience will come into play but I wouldn't rule it out at all. Because he'd say if you want to shoot deer get a .243 and you can use it for fox too. If you want to shoot fox only, get one or the other. Quite often you'd get the condition (for .243) that you can shoot fox whilst in the pursuit of deer which rules

Thank you sir. I couldn't agree more, and wouldn't dream of buying a firearm of any type, without being 101% sure that I'm legally allowed to own it. I just hope this hasn't tarred me with the brush of 'another idiot with no interest in doing things properly and legally'. I was simply seeking the opinions of people more knowledgeable and experienced than myself. The FAO and I discussed the possibility of both during our conversation. I stated that I was more likely to go LR, based on all the facts that have been reiterated here today, WMR came up more as a previous experience topic, r

Hence the wording of my post, I would not be looking at a head shot with a .22lr sub on water, appropriate distance/placement body shot is less problematic. Almost any .22lr round at almost any distance will go clean through a Canada head and carry on as a great lump for whatever distance, even more if you miss, it won't if you put it in the body, and you also have much less chance of missing. A few moments patience with a Canada will almost always present a suitable body shot for a .22lr. Pest control on Canada geese is a job I commonly find well suited for the WMR with V-Max ammo, it p

The onus is on you to know the Law and GL terms and comply with your FAC conditions. Why are you concerned about a .22lr ricochet on water, a .22lr sub with a decent HP will do the job at sensible distances with the right placement, expand well and stop the goose without over penetrating, why would it ricochet?! Who knows the actual specific details here but it sounds a quick and simple job, no quite so without an Open FAC perhaps. Just the same, if in doubt, don't!

I would take issue with the word LOT! Some do I'm sure, but the fact is, commonly a CF mod on a rimfire is counter productive on several counts. They are usually bigger and heavier, more expensive and less effective as they are designed for higher pressures. As regards definition on your FAC for a moderator, this would normally simply be a slot allowing a moderator to be affixed to the calibre requested, the choice of mod would most commonly be left to the FAC holder! They tend to list, for example Calibre.223/5.56 Type Sound Moderator Quantity 1, what you want to screw on the end

Sorry, but I can't run with that. First thing I would do with any gun new to me, (either brand new or used) is clean/oil it thoroughly! Without doubt my .22lr's get cleaned the least of all my rifles, but that is because they are dedicated sub sonic tools, with 100% lead ammo, no cooper coats or HV. That being the case there isn't the greatest of issues, the ammo is slow, lead is soft and the propellant crud is just dirty. Just the same they get a thorough clean as required, great lumps are visible down the barrel, dirt gathers round the breech and bolt, and the claws slowly clog up wi

You must have been more fortunate than me, I used to use Eley and Remington all the time back in the target days and they performed well, my more recent experiences of Remington subs is terrible.

Any Thoughts On The .204 Ruger Calibre?
Deker replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
From BASC magazine...my apologies for not referencing the date, but something I had saved and not featured date on, I'm sure BASC will be able to confirm magazine issue date!. "Hit or Myth? It's illegal to use a .22 rimfire for fox Myth. There is no legislative obstacle to using any firearm for fox control, unless prohibited by a condition on your firearm certificate. Foxes fall within the definition of "vermin" and no court has said otherwise. If "vermin" are featured in the certificate condition it is lawful to cull them with a rifle. However using an air rifle or a calibre which was likely -

 ...........on the basis that the Oxford English Dictionary says they are vermin As I said before, my general opinion as a non firearms law expert is exercise caution. It maybe the Police would never prosecute in this situation even if they didn't consider it Vermin................. Law is written in words, those words are defined in the dictionary, you don't write a law then say the dictionary has it wrong, you badly worded the Law. NO case to answer! If you want to crawl on your belly and not question any bull from a region so be it, and you have one hearsay response from th -
The recall website would more than seem to suggest they will contact you and arrange return shipping. My 700 is also effected, and my understanding is in the UK it is return to your RFD, and he will send to Riflecraft who are apparently doing all the UK fixes!

I never understand this phrase, rifle/calibres/ammo are tools, some are better suited to some land/distances/quarry than others, like all tools, when you do a job you chose the best suited for that job You select the best for the situation in hand, that doesn't/shouldn't mean, I prefer this gun to that gun, it should only mean, this is the best gun in this situation. If some suggest they prefer the .22lr over the HMR than I can but suggest the best tool for the job was always a .22lr. Once you have found the right ammo then .22lr sub sonic groups can be exceptionally good in the fiel

Will do On a serious note, the ricochets are one of the things that has always put me off the .22LR Any round and any calibre can ricochet, frankly I get sick of hearing all this about the .22lr, in many cases regurgitated I'm sure by someone who read something. (I'm not pointing any fingers here) Don't miss and take care, yes, it has happened to me, but I select the best calibre and ammo for the ground and quarry, I don't get these bouncing all over the countryside all the time. There is no way in the world I would get rid of either of my current .22lrs because of some

Any Thoughts On The .204 Ruger Calibre?
Deker replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Wasn't that my very point? There's no discernible difference between the damage to a fox from .223 or .243 as confirmed by Xray, so there's little value in shooting .243 for fox at reasonable ranges when it costs £5 per box extra. There is every point, as buying one rifle (a .243) will be much cheaper in the long run than buying two, which part of that did you miss? You don't seem to be keeping up very well for a solicitor! :hmm: -

Deker, the reality is, in case you haven't read many of the threads on the subject on this very forum, started by the very people who've been told that they can't have a centre fire on 1st grant, that many forces won't grant centre fire at 1st instance. And many have, you seem to forget for all those who say you can't get a CF on first grant many have come back and said I DID, as you have also been told, you have a right to any rifle if you can show good reason, a region simply adopting a policy of we don't give out CF on first grant should be challenged and put in their place! I haven' -

I'd have thought that's quick from what I've heard as I'd heard 3-4K seems more typical, but that maybe because with target shooting you're getting shot after shot down the barrel one after the other so it's getting hot. I know someone who bought a .22-250 2nd hand and who uses it for deer trips to Scotland and the odd shot on the range (tends to use rim-fire for target because of the cost). She's had it over 2 years now, and the barrels still going strong although she only takes a few deer trips a year. There's no clue as to how many previous shots have been made. However, going back -
Any Thoughts On The .204 Ruger Calibre?
Deker replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Not likely to be an issue for most people within a normal time scale. You do accelerate the wear with a fast round like 22-250, but I'd expect you to get around 3-4,000 rounds down it before you had any serious wear issues. Considering the average non professional probably shoots on average a couple of foxes a night (allowing for blank nights and single nights as well as the more productive ones), then if you go out foxing once a week, even allowing for a couple of misses, you're probably shooting an average of maybe 5 rounds per night. Allowing for 1 trips per week, year round with no -
Fill your boots then mate, you can use your Hmr or .22Lr for FOX I am totally confused, they took fox off your rimfires but you have AOLQ, did that appear when fox went, and is that against your rimfires? That means exactly what it says, and Fox is lawful quarry! As BLACK-GUN, fill your boots!

http://www.federalpremium.com/products/rifle.aspx Example from Federal site! Select the ammo you want by checking the ammo box, (for example .204 32g V-Shok and .243 55g V-Shok) then hit compare, then scroll down to wind drift! -
I expect a HMR would be favourite then! Could be difficult getting anything else. :D

Nobody can accurately. Zero at 200 yards with your rifle and ammo, then pull back to 100 yards and see where your shots go, make a note! This will give you a pretty accurate guide to then check a 200 yards zero by shooting at 100 yards. If you want a 200 yards zero you must have land to shoot on at 200 yards so its easy!
-
They seem to work in very strange ways, you had fox listed but they decided to remove it, and now even the new Home Office guide recognises HMR as a Fox capable calibre! :hmm: Do you have an Open FAC? Would they prefer you used a .223 in someones back garden or a rimfire? Some regions have some very odd policies!

:hmm: Why did they do that?
