only takes 3ft lb apparently I have heard 3-4ft lb many a time, no idea where it comes from, but as a 12ft lb is perfectly capable to a reasonable distance I guess it isn't far off!

Your Thought Guys On The Ammo 17Hmr
Deker replied to airarmstx200's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well dont buy a Jag if you can't afford the Petrol !!! Its pretty obvious if people are selling their HMR and finding a .22lr does the job they didn't need a HMR anyway. -
Your Thought Guys On The Ammo 17Hmr
Deker replied to airarmstx200's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Ok, I'll hold my hand up and say I got bored and didn't read most of the OP, and have skipped a lot of the replies. What is this thread about? The HMR has been about for well over 10 years now and debated at length, what more needs to be said? -
NO, it isn't common and I don't have that issue even changing ammo brands, something smells strange here, either a very bad batch or whatever.... :hmm:

This is a well known and long established issue, this goes back to 2007. Whilst every word may not be quite 100% accurate today, the fundamental problem remains, and will remain until technology advances to solve it (don't hold your breath). From Bob Palmer at Hornady, Published in Shooting UK 2007 CCI makes the cases for all the .17 HMR ammo and loads it for the different companies. When they make the cases they draw the case out to a .22mag case that has a straight wall. Then the priming compound is put in the rim of the case. The case is spun to put the primer evenly in the rim. Afte

This subject really should be pinned, it comes round and round again. The manufacturing process of HMR ammo is flawed, the annealing process or lack of it, leads to split cases at the neck, sometimes before, and relatively commonly after firing. This is nothing to do with individual makes of ammo (many of which are made by CCI anyway), it is the manufacturing process, and as our knowledge and technology stand this cannot be solved. It does not itself cause a problem in firing/accuracy/safety, although I would be much happier if it didn't happen. Hang fires, no primer or powder,

Give them to your local rfd next time you buy ammo from him. He'll be able to dispose of them. Anyone who has a problem with split HMR ammo feel free to save them and I'll happily take them off your hands and dispose of sensibly. Thank you!

As shown, no damage at all, flexible rubbery sort of stuff, black, waterproof, it's even clean, fits whole boot floor, just sold my X-Trail and have no further use for it, really useful just the same, (I've already ordered one for the new motor), open to any inspection and probably best if you are able to collect from Reading, I have no idea how I would pack this up and ship it. Fits model 2001-2007. Absolute steal at £22. Cheers

Ok, I broke my X-Trail so I've just picked up a Freelander2. I'm after some mudflaps, definitely front, and probably rear as well. Does anyone have or fitted these, any recommendations or ones to stay away from, and important..do you have to drill wheel arch, or anything? Cheers

Interview Gone Bad.......
Deker replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I had 3 points for speeding at my recent renewal, I also had 3 points for speeding (different of course) at my previous renewal. Not an issue, but I don't have any previous record for anything (except minor motoring). -
Might Be A Silly Question But Here Goes.
Deker replied to Froudy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
This is a common situation in my experience, I am often called to sites with a Rat issue, which is actually coming from another site. Difficult and delicate normally as the other site will never accept it or pay for treatment, so diplomacy is required. However, in some cases if progress with adjoining sites cannot be made a call to report the issue and ongoing H&S risks must be made to the Council for action. -
Rats In A Loft
Deker replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Rats in the loft to eating Swan..... Never tried Swan myself but did endeavour to eat a black backed gull many years ago, these look enormous in flight but are pretty skinny in reality, either that or mine was just exhausted and starving....... ...another experience I will not be rushing to repeat! -
Rats In A Loft
Deker replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Call them what you like, the old fashioned break back (or modern variations/incarnations) work, the problem from a Professional Pest Controller point of view is monitoring/checking/body removal/legislation. -
Rats In A Loft
Deker replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I've dipped in and out of this thread, so have missed a bit, but experience over the years has shown me not much but flies/maggots actually have any interest in eating the fox. Personally, I tried a nice bit of Fox rump well roasted and seasoned many years ago, I have no desire to repeat the experience. -

You can only generalise over any animal behaviour, there are always exceptions to the rule! -
Rats In A Loft

Difenacoum Toxicity Oral doses in mg/kg: LD50 rats 1.8 mice 0.8 rabbits 2 hens 100 dogs 50 cats 100 pigs -100 Lots of sources for figures, by all means do your own maths, it can be fun and games for secondary poisoning, but whichever way you want to look at it the non target species would need to eat an awful lot of poisoned rodents! -
Rats In A Loft
Deker replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
In normal situations where there is an ample food supply it is an issue, where they are hungry and food is scarce, they may take day 1. -
Rats In A Loft

Rats are neophobic, they don't like change or new things! Almost anything is better than this, and a lot cheaper! -

A rat carrying a disease...never heard of anything so preposterous! How about Weil’s disease, Salmonella, Tuberculosis, Cryptosporidiosis, E.Coli, Foot and mouth disease, etc, then there was a scurrilous rumour about the Plague as well. -
Squib loads usually means little or no primer spun into the rim, or indeed little or no propellant in the cartridge, possibly even both I guess! There is nothing you can do to prevent this as you simply have no idea until you try and fire it. Carry a cleaning rod and it will usually remove a bullet stuck in the barrel. By the whole nature of the event there has been little force to move the bullet, so it will tend not to have expanded too much in the barrel and generally should be quite easy to remove! Just the same, it is rare I carry any rods with me!

Rats In A Loft
Deker replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Sorry, but that is utter rubbish. It takes a huge amount of rodenticide bait to kill a dog, and a vast amount of dead rats. Unless the rat had been baited with something like Zinc Phosphide, which was withdrawn in 2006. Part of the problem is that vets are over cautious and prescribe Vitamin K treatments to make money at the first sign of any potential poisoning. The LD 50 for dogs is high for all the recognised approved anti coagulants, to suffer any poisoning issues through secondary poisoning would take a massive intake of contaminated rodents. If this dog -
Beretta A400 Running In Suggestions Please
Deker replied to arrybash's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
What does the Beretta Manual say? I would not be too concerned, probably best to forget very light or low recoil carts for the first box or two though. -
Common is open to interpretation, but lets just say the HMR seems to get a fair proportion! Personally I have not experienced this on the HMR or WMR (or any centrefires) but I have at least twice on the .22lr. This will generally be down to quality control and is seldom anything to do with split cases, which most commonly occur at the time of firing, although sometimes before!

I think that has been mentioned at least twice, first off in #4.
