.22-250 For Deer North Of The Border
Deker replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
SD Are you using your 22-250 for CWD and Muntjac at the moment...what ammo do you use for them? I tend not to use V-max that often on any deer, usually HP or SP. -
.22-250 For Deer North Of The Border
Deker replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My .223 has been conditioned for deer in Scotland (Roe) since the day I got it, I can generally get reasonably close but my longest was 229 yards and it dropped on the spot. -
Don't lose any sleep, it's only 5 years, the length of a FAC/SGC, and you know how quickly that goes...and when you get out you won't have any future worries about Firearms either, you will be banned for life.

If he gets caught going through a red light, not paying his TV licence, shoplifting, or poaching with you, etc., etc., he "could" lose his licence and guns, as SS has said he doesn't need to be carrying his guns at the time.

Its the old chestnut which has been round more times than I can remember. Some regions say not to worry, others refuse a temporary certificate (others grant them) and then others tell you to lodge guns with a RFD as you are currently looking at a 5 year jail term for illegal possession of firearms! Take you pick!

:hmm: What's being a pestie got to do with it? Where did you get that incorrect information?

If he's after squirrel and woodie some shots will be upward? Would .22lr not be unsuitable? I don't use FAC but just thought I'd raise the question... Ammo is available to use in a .22lr from around 30ft lb upwards! But why would you want/need more than a 30ft lb air rifle to stop a squirrel anyway, most people get by just fine with 12ft lb.
-
For general work .22 up to about 30ft lb, after that a .22lr.

what did you take from my post that led you to think the scope is goosed ? And I was zeroing the scope at 100mtrs not silly paper targets also the scopes mag is perfect for what I want it for What on earth is this gun/scope that you need to shim it to reach 100yards?

How much higher would you suggest? ...and what if he wanted to push the zero out a bit further? It seems to me his problem is he cant make the reticule cross coincide with the point if impact. The reticule is too low. Higher rings would solve the problem. It doesn't sound like he's going to be shooting ultra long distances with an 8x scope. There's nothing in his text which has suggested that's what he wants to do This happened to me in the past and I solved it by getting higher rings. Something is getting lost in translation here, higher rings/mounts will mo

Let me reword my OP a little...is there anyone around the Henley on Thames area with one of these that could spare a few minutes to analyse some Eberspächer exhaust gases for me please? Many thanks.

Unless I have misunderstood it, I get the impression he has run out of height adjustment, not Left. ...and maybe worth a try reversing the mounts he has. We still appear to be waiting for him to advise the distance he is zeroing, etc. Seems strange ...but I had a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 a while back, the best elevation I could get was 3 feet LOW at 600 yards with my .243, it was returned as not fit for purpose!

Wildcat Evolution First Impressions
Deker replied to riflehunter583's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If my memory serves me correctly the Evolution has been around about 5 years, and is indeed an evolution of the P8. The P8 (Compact) works for me, sound moderation is fine on my P8's but size and weight could be better. There is more than a suggestion the Evolution addresses size and weight issues, but there is also a suggestion that sound moderation isn't as good! My problem is, over all this time I have never actually heard one or seen a review I could trust, so......... Anyone got one (or more), I have P8 Compacts on my .223, .243 and .308, I would love to do a side by side -
Hi Guys/girls I need one of these for a little job. Anyone around the Maidenhead, Henley or Reading areas in a position to lend me one for an hour or two? The ideal device is a Flue Gas Combustion Analyser but, specifically, I need something that can display the CO2 content in combustion gasses. Please don't come back with all this gas qualifications malarkey, not required for my use! THANK YOU.

There are very few calibre specific variations of accuracy worth talking about. Generalising, HMR is marginally more accurate than WMR, .222 is marginally more accurate than .223, etc. But that difference will be hard to measure when looked at scientifically, and a mm or two in the field over 100 yards is very rarely going to change the outcome of the shot. We have to make the assumption here that every calibre is assessed within its usable field of effectiveness. We must also ignore the individual user. Noticeable variations within calibres will nevertheless occur, and these will pr

For my .22 I have a mix of metal and plastic and for my HMR and WMR they are all metal. Personally I prefer the metal, but the truth is I have not really found any difference in performance/reliability.

Try telling them that when you turn up at the Lord Roberts Centre at Bisley with your .308!

Didn't you see The Shooter, all you need is an old plastic bottle and gaffer tape.................. ...oh sorry, you said, "heavier the better!
-
A HMR and a .22lr will both deal with foxes but I'm struggling to understand why you are/were considering a .22lr for foxes as you already have a HMR, unless they were particularly close, but your posts give the impression they may not be!

Its down to you, a fixed 10x on an air rifle for 30-35yards I find incredible, I use 6x on almost everything for shooting out to about 200 yards. Hence why advise about scopes/magnification/reticle is virtually pointless, get what works for you!
