  1. Convenience, your financial position, location, difficulty in finding ammo etc etc are not recognised good reasons for BULK buying in the eyes of the law! It is possible some regions may support your request on this basis, others may well laugh! So because they might say no its a better idea to not even try? LOL f***ing hell, probably best not bother applying for firearms full stop. Who said anything about it not being worth a try, didn't I say..... "It is possible some regions may support your request on this basis", but that does not change the fact Convenience, your

  3. Are you talking about ammo in the sense of rifle ammo or cartridges generally? Because that certainly isn't the case with shotgun cartridges! Well both really. Tickets for .22LR, FAC air and shotgun. Haven't got shotgun yet but intend to. Working on FAC air. Don't know what to buy that i can afford and be happy with. guess I'll save up the pennies for a Mk2 Rapid. I have a RFD quite near but Winchester won't supply him and the subs he sells sre mainly CCI. So can .22LR ammo be couriered or not? If so what is a typical RFD charge for the service To be honest I'm not actually sure
  4. £1000 doesn't give you a whole load of choice for a package of rifle, scope, mod! NEW Bipod, slip, sling, cleaning tools/materials, etc may eat into that a whole load more as well! You may be looking at used, where you should find a reasonable choice. There is very little bad out there in terms of makes and models, (there are obviously bad individual rifles), simply variations of good...... and what works for you. I can never understand people lugging around heavy drainpipe barrels when out foxing, just why is beyond me, but they like them, personal choice....and that is large
  5. I see no input from the OP since page 1. I personally believe all trace of this thread should now disappear!

  7. That's rather like asking us to chose your girlfriend for you! So far only CZ, Howa, Tikka and Browning mentioned, that amazes me, but then add the variety of scopes and mods out there and the combinations are vast. It may help to narrow things down if you mention what you actually intend to do with this .223, and your budget.
  8. Take it to a RFD, get a destruction notice , then just replace it like for like within 7 days for free Help me out here, I'm not familiar with this process, how does that work for an item listed on his FAC?

    Ratting

Last time I checked there were not many Sea Ports or Coastal resorts in S. Yorks, so I guess it is just a dark coloured Rattus norvegicus (it isn't that uncommon, there are a lot of different shades of colour) , perhaps its been eating all those GM crops/seeds to get so large. Edit Back in the day we used to run annual competitions for the biggest rat, to gain entry it had to be a minimum of 20" nose to tail, we got a fair few every year!
  10. I cannot stress how strongly I feel about people paying landowners for permission to help them with their pest control. First off I am a professional Pest Controller and this always makes life harder, secondly it is a slippery slope, if it becomes the norm prices will go up and up and then only those with deep pockets will be able to find any shooting anywere. You pay the landowner £X today and another shooter comes along tomorrow and offers £Y, and so on, you are history or broke! Don't do it ever, landowners should offer you the opportunity to help them FOC or in truth pay you!

    Ratting

There are not many Black rats (Ship Rats) in the UK and they are smaller than the Brown rat/Norway rat, so if yours is really large I suspect it is simply a very dark Norway rat. Virtually impossible to tell what it is from the picture. I don't think there are many Black rats inland in the UK, (I can't remember the last time I actually saw one) most are in coastal regions...where are you?
  12. And? Foxes with a rimfire is legal .. So if yours states any other legal quarry that means foxes as well ... Just because a force wont specifically grant them for fox doesn't mean they cant be used if you've got no restrictions which with aolq on your cert your not, unless I'm missing something Interesting point well picked up. Rimfire and foxes is perfectly legal and has nothing to do with what your force will grant as specifically named or not. So your wording, "Any other legal quarry". means just that....does it actually say Legal or Lawful? And I'm not sure why you thin
  13. "Any legal quarry." Sounds good to me! That must be just as good if not better than.......... "Vermin, including fox, ground game and any other lawful quarry."
  14. .240 is the minimum calibre laid down in the Deer Acts as being all deer legal (various other energy etc provisions also apply) , it isn't a technicality and it isn't a guide, it is the Law. The fact that .240 is about as easy to find as Rocking Horse **** is neither here or there. Most people end up with a .243 simply for that reason, it doesn't change the law.
  15. I have had good and bad historically, but always levels of good these days, because I select the best, from the best grazing/feeding areas if I'm after one for the table. Also attempt to check age and sex when after food for the table. As with many animals, a young female that has had a good diet will almost always be sweet, tender and tasty. ...and I don't remember the last time I plucked and cooked a whole one, simply open the chest and remove that breast meat. ATB!
  16. In simple terms this only applies to Lead shot...NOT lead. Single projectile pellets and bullets, which will commonly contain lead are not illegal, something I had to straighten a FEO out on when he told a pal he could not use his HMR on geese because the bullet had lead in it.
  17. Crumbs...... a 12 ft lb air rifle would not, in the majority of situations, be considered the appropriate tool for Canada Geese, but it is not per se illegal. As has already been mentioned, there must always be some respect for your quarry, and I can't think of many situations where a 12ft lb V Canada Goose is respectful. Put very simply, if you use a 12 ft lb and injure a Canada you leave yourself wide open to any of the mass of cruelty legislation this country affords wildlife, if you use a more powerful/appropriate tool and simply mess up the shot you don't. I shoot them all the time
  18. They are and a very fine safe it is too..can I help.
  19. If you like/get on with, your 22-250 you will probably like the .270. Personal choice and all that but I don't like/rate either particularly. Versatility wise you will not do much better than a .243, the ammo choice leaves it as a superb longer range foxing tool (you don't need it for 50 yard foxes) and all deer capable as well. There are no minimum Boar regulations, only suggestion, and when you have an Open FAC with AOLQ you can do what you want. My .308 was bought with the main objective of Boar, but it gets some target/zeroing use and very occasionally on deer (I have never
  20. There are a number of makes on the market and they are pretty much all BS standard. As already mentioned get as big as you sensibly can. Be careful about the highlighted/bold bit above, that may not be as simple as it may seem.
  21. Many FEO are total numb nuts, and every region has its own take anyway...which .22 was that.....a .22-250, any rimfire available in the UK should be fine if that is the case! ATB!
  22. Several hours have passed, it can't take that long to rule it out and move on!
  23. Few will ever need more than a SAK can provide on a .22lr using subs. Frankly, it doesn't matter what you spend on a mod for a .22lr and subs, the difference in sound reduction will be negligible over a SAK.
  24. Wouldn't recommend .22 Shorts -- they won't feed well from a magazine. Something to do with them being too short. The Winchester Long Zs average 765 fps through my barrel. Ridiculously quiet, but they don't group well for me. CCI do a 40-grain Quiet-22 LRN and a Quiet-22 Segmented HP, both 710 fps, 45 fpe, plus the Suppressor 970 fps 45-grain round. Might be worth a try if you can find them. Unfortunately the CCI Segmented Quiets are not available in the UK, I would like to try them!
  25. i have a hornet for fox out to 200 yds max very good round imo,but if you want to shoot further i recently spoke to a proffessional fox controller and the best dedicated fox rifle he uses is a 204 cal , very little recoil, very flat and fast and he rekons affected less by wind than the .223.. I have Just put a variation in for one LD That's as maybe, and everyones situation/requirements are different. But, by way of balance. I am a professional fox controller as well, and I have a decent selection of fox tools, I have no use for a .204!
