  1. I think it likely there would be some fairly serious internal trauma from the shock of that caliber, who knows if it would be survivable, whatever, you would have more chance wearing it than not I suspect. Just the same, this is an EXTREME test, and the majority of people in field conflict are not hit by a .5. Against a conventional 5.56 or 7.62 I rather suspect this would be VERY effective!
  2. Peanuts/peanut butter always first choice, if that fails chocolate!
  3. I'm no expert on steel but the Opinels do take an edge and have been around a long time, they also seem to stain on the blade in 5 minutes!
  4. Out of curiosity do you/can you, eat Conger?
  5. Some 50 years ago I went Shark fishing out of Paignton, Devon with my Dad, 2 were caught on the boat, don't ask what they were (but they were not Basking Sharks) I was very young, and one was about 6-8' I remember. Back then it was all a thrill and exciting, and one of my best memories was when they were strung up at the harbour when we got back, what a crowd they attracted, I seem to recall their skin was smooth as silk in one direction but felt like sandpaper in the opposite direction. So, nothing new in a few sharks round our coast!
  6. For the same reason I had one when I was 15, and the same reason why MANY people have rifles today with no intention of shooting anything alive, for TARGET work! Also added more groups to your list of trades needing a pistol Edit: Crumbs, just noticed this was still the .223 does the damage thread, think we have moved too far away!
  7. There was some changes to the guidance a couple of years ago and getting a pistol is a tiny bit easier, but this will only apply "generally" to professionals and humane dispatch, it will not cover semi auto, just revolvers and then only 2 shot. Bisley, after protracted negotiation with the Home Office, now has a facility to allow Team GB pistol shooters to actually practice in the UK rather than having to travel abroad, no idea how that works.
  8. Mine does, I have a .22lr Pistol and .357, I'm also on TV Police Humane Animal Dispatch team, its horses for courses if you excuse the pun. Just the same, if I'm called to deal with a roadside deer (for example) the .357 may well be the tool that comes to mind, but upon arrival it may just turn out the situation is better dealt with by the .22, or a rifle or shotgun and in the very odd instance even a knife!
  9. I've seen this pic several times now, is that someone on the hotel turret with what looks like a fairly serious gun, he is lucky to just get a fine, he could have been blown out of the sky!
  10. Not as first choice, they will use something heavier, but a couple of taps in the right place with a .22lr will do the job, however, there is margin for error that a .357 or 38 special will reduce considerably. Energy is lost on the .22lr in revolvers due to chamber/barrel gap and length of barrel, so they will tend to be a fair bit down on a rifle with the same ammo. Anyway, .223 does the damage and is very useful!
  11. Dress for the site, time of year and weather! I tend to wear welly boots ALL year just the same!
  12. Of course you don't need all the bells and whistles, although they can very often give you an edge. I think the gun helps a bit, however cheap it may be it needs to put pellets in the right place.
  13. Sachas at it again, heard a bit about this but that's the first I've seen, sure its funny, but then again its terrifying as well!
  14. Cheers! Well I have my 30lb 6' Boat Rod, guess that's as close as I get!
  15. This size of Carp (actually any fish) is new to me! Just out of interest, what sort of kit do you actually need, the rod must be something special and the line, what, 100lb or there abouts, and what on earth size hook do you use!? Even my landing net, huge as I think it is, wouldn't cope! Probably daft but I've never been in this area. Cheers
  16. Flippen 'ek, I haven't got any kit capable of that!
  17. Trapped a few but I can't remember ever shooting one!
  18. Perhaps I'm being a bit slow today but can you translate that please!
  19. Yep, si brown mentioned that above, learnt something today!
  20. OK, 2 year old thread but still interesting! I've never caught a Monster, what actually qualifies as a Monster, apparenly a 60lb came out of one of my local lakes (pit) last weekend, that seems pretty big to me!
  21. That explains that then!
