  1. Mine was pretty quiet, like a staff temp but he did attack the landlord at the time snooping around when I was out and my mate who lived across the road had to drag him off the bloke. My two staff/cattle dogs were just watching it apparently. lol.
  2. The Parson type I have now and the working Russells I used to have.
  3. Yeah my two have pretty good conformation and they can work but the other Russells I used to have were much better workers and conformation wasn't their strong point, they looked more like workers to me and were bred for a long time just for foxes. I only use mine for rats now and kicking up a few rabbits and killing feral cats, so they suit me. I know a lady with show Russells, they have great conformation and coats but they are just an average small dog and have virtually no hunting traits at all. I wouldn't even class them as a terrier where I had a show bred Cairn as a kid that worked anyt
  4. Probably a good thing, only the toughest and smartest survived, with a big gene pool they were healthy as. I'd bet these mongrel terriers were a lot more useful than todays show bred Russells.
  5. The first dog I went ferreting with as a kid was an old guys first cross cattle/grey, white with red spots. She was a very tough bitch and never got injured badly despite hitting the boulders in the area when ferreting a few times. I was hooked on using dogs for rabbits after that but wanted a faster type so went and stayed with the whippets and their crosses. Don't hunt much now but I'd think of a cattle cross if I ever get back into it.
  6. That sounds like a good move, I have some rats in the farm shed that have outsmarted me and the two terriers for months. All we keep catching is half grown ones. I don't like poison as we have butcher birds, hawks and goannas I like around the place.
  7. I wouldn't want that thing sitting on my arm but it probably would like it.
  8. i heard the Minkman's minks got out and he couldn't catch them due to having no fingers on his hands. He is still seen scurrying around from time to time in the scrub trying to pick up the escapees, to no avail. This might be just a rumour though.
  9. Does that mean you will be able to hunt all game legally?
  10. I always was under the impression that conspiracy theorists were a bunch of wackos but I'm rethinking that now.
  11. That's mad, I've just got psoriasis on both elbows and just thought it was age related. Sorry about your mum mate.
  12. I don't watch the news much so thanks for telling me. Getting rid of the older generation that can't contribute imo.
  13. I had two doses of Pfizer because they were saying at the time you won't be able to visit family without vacc. I have had two weird illnesses, one I was extremely ill, vomiting for days and passing out each time I was sick, I have never passed out before in 60 years. The other one was severe kidney pain right after vacc and several times since. I regret getting the shots and feel I fell for the gov's agenda like a chump.
  14. Well get her a whippet and it will be back to her heel instantly with rabbit in mouth .
  15. Great to see numbers like that. Where did you say that field was joe? Lol.
  16. Good on you mate, it looks like she was worth the sleepless nights .
  17. That is a big dog to me as I've mainly owned whippet types. That's around the height and weight of an average staghound, some bigger, some smaller depending on the game hunted. I had a ginger dog that was around 30 inches and 100lb and he was the second smallest in the litter. The old guy used them on roos daily and preferred the bigger dogs.
  18. Oz staghound, they are used on everything from rabbits to boars/deer and have been bred just to work for 200 years. You need a big dog to catch big game day after day.
  19. I have mostly retired from hunting now after my old whippet Shady died, just lost the urge to hunt, plus I'm fckn old but yeah I still have a whippet which mostly lays on the couch and just mooches on walks. That's where they have it over the slugs, they are loyal and I don't have call to Scotland Yard to file a missing feathered asshole report every time she goes for a run.
  20. I haven't heard of it but I don't doubt it. A lot of great rabbit spots here in NSW are devoid of rabbits now, very large areas, even post codes. Whether these get repopulated who knows but if any animal can do it it's rabbits. I don't do much hunting anymore but it's sad for the young hunters.
  21. Don't laugh, one of my cats would follow me and the dogs around a km from the house when ferreting the few close warrens I could get at. The dogs were ok with her. She would just sit and watch. If I picked up the rifle or bow she would always follow along, just me and Durbin the cat, most loyal pussy out there, .
  22. Of course and cats usually just kill one to eat but mine would come home with one from spots you would never see a rabbit or think of trying. if you have a lot of feral cats in an area they just keep hammering the population.
  23. I was never into breeding except the odd litter to keep a pup or two because over here in NSW decent working terriers and even lurchers are pretty hard to find. I just know if I wasn't 100% happy with the bitch I wouldn't breed her. You may get a whole litter you weren't happy with. Even with two outstanding parents you are chancing it unless they are a tight line/family.
