    Tbh I've fed my dogs mainly roo and rabbit at times it's good lean protein but the dogs were thin as fck and dry coats, they worked well on it but there's no fat. Mixed with kibble, eggs and veg they shine. I wouldn't avoid the meat, we all should eat it instead of beef and pork imo.

    If they could encourage all the fat Maoris to hunt and eat rabbit instead of pig everyone would be a winner, less rabbits, healthier maori. I have a couple of maori mates, luckily they don't come on here. lol.

    I had a small Aussie terrier that took without tying to a cattle/bull terrier that jumped the fence.

    They do the same here, I don't like killing animals and leaving them to waste. I don't know why they don't let a select group of responsible hunters in. It would cost them nothing. They did a survey here and it cost the gov thousands per rabbit using their control methods.

    Feral goats were my main source of dog meat when I lived near an old gold mining town, most caught with a little buckskin pit bitch. I can't find the pics but put them up on a thread here some time back.

    Are you sure the eyesight is 100%, as you probably know deafness and bad eyes go hand in hand. If so the dog should do alright lamping but ferreting may be testing.

    I think quite a few right off young dogs that may become champs just by not giving them time, not all dogs mature at the same rate as with deerhound types and terriers too. I've been given a couple of so called failures over the years that turned out good animals.

    Also shite dogmen can ruin a great prospect and call the dog useless, these tossers go through a lot of dogs until they finally see they are the useless one. ?

    I agree worker to worker but I'm wondering if a straight pure bred running dog is crossed would the pups come out more running dog if crossed to a mongrel rather than another pure bred.

    I think most hunters on rabbits want fast dogs like the whippet or greyhound but prefer a sturdier dog with thicker skin, better coat to protect the animal. I know there are really good first cross running dogs but they do get half the other genes being from stock dogs, terriers, scent dogs and others. Could it be better to put a complete mongrel dog with hunting ability over a runner so that the pups inherit more of the sighthounds?
