  1. Yeah, born in Sydney and lived out west NSW for 40 odd years. No XXXX and marrying cousins down here.?
  2. As said whippet or whippet based lurcher. Very capable rabbit dogs and quiet, clean, good natured house dogs. They can't handle too much rough handling and jumping on from kids so teach the kids to be gentle and respect the dog and you'll have an easy care, good natured hunting mate.
  3. No, I just let her have fun when not working and yeah it's all about rabbits when out.
  4. My whip/grey will stalk and catch birds in the yard but when out hunting won't look at them.
  5. The terriers I've had seemed to like a wider variety of foods including fruit and veg they steal from the garden than the running dogs that turn their noses up if it's not protein.
  6. I can never understand how people thought bread and milk was a good diet for a carnivore but was common to feed it. Maybe the rabbits caught had to go to feed the family first.
  7. The bowline whip/grey is my spirit animal ?.
  8. I didn't say non worker bred dogs can't work and I had Aussie Terriers and a Cairn terrier that would bolt foxes. A lot has got to do with what you put in front of them. The working bred Russells I had would try and get into any holes almost at weaning and were too full on to have as pets, though they loved people. I've never seen that with show bred types. You can work almost any breed but most don't have the intensity and natural inborn behavior when young. Same with whippets, the worker bred ones picked up the job quicker, like it was second nature. I like the idea of reviving old breeds an
  9. You are either not very fussy or you haven't seen working bred terriers do their thing, no comparison to pet/show stuff. The Russells I had could not be put in pet homes, even as 8 week olds.
  10. It really is if you are only going to use the best dogs, test each gen properly and only breed worker to worker. Otherwise you are just breeding whippets to greyhounds, nothing anyone with some running dog experience couldn't do.
  11. Don't put the one in the middle pic into the line mate, looks too fat, pig headed and slow.
  12. I'm happy with mine doing 5hr shift on the rabbits.
  13. Get rid of your fast Fentons and get a real dog ie whippet ?
  14. Yeah I'm going to join PETA and fill my house with mice before they aerial bait here ?.
  15. Don't think you are an odd ball just an old time hunter with a passion for a great pastime.
  16. Hope we don't end up bunny huggers, lol.
  17. I don't think most people should breed dogs, leave it to the dedicated few. I'm too soft hearted with them in my old age to handle the horrors of it.
  18. I'm the nice one of my family, really.
  19. Love thy neighbor is my motto ?.
  20. I understand and can't do much else but people, if they want to breed working dogs should only breed from the best and not bring heaps of unwanted pups into the world with no hope imo.
  21. Just throw away animals then ? No wonder the pounds are full.
  22. Thank's Guss, she used to get up three times or more through the night to feed and clean them, they stunk the house out but we got some good workers. Even when they were grown they'd lick her face like she was their mother, lol.
  23. Good mate, better just ferreting yourself with no one else around, you can't trust people. The mrs also raised a fox cub I rescued that fell down a mine shaft years ago, most hunters are animal people more than the bunny hugging lot, lol.
  24. Supposed to be an enforcer, my gran an SP bookie who lived until nearly 100 said he was a dickhead, that's all I know.
