  1. I've written before about a very small racing grey bitch we had when I was young. She was smaller than my whippet lurchers and was never beaten out of the box, she won a lot of races, city and country. I put it down to her smaller more muscular build. I still doubt she was quicker than my blue whippet/staghound, off the mark or longer run.
  2. That's why we have dogs to suit our terrain, you'd starve waiting for big clod hoppers to catch anything where I hunt.?
  3. That's true, we would catch f all with bigger dogs in the steep hill country around the Central Tablelands here. Whippet lurchers rule here.
  4. That's all I used to hunt as a kid growing up in Sydney, with a pack of silky/ Aust terriers and a Cairn terrier. Today I'd still rather hunt rats than pigs but love the rabbiting with ferrets and dogs.
  5. If someone kicked you in the bum with those boots would that mean you're gay?
  6. It seems dogs are the most argued over subject on the planet. I don't know how many punch ups between hunters I've witnessed over here in pubs over pig dogs. Even me and the mrs have almost come to blows over dogs but I back off, she grew up in Birmingham, lol.
  7. Morton wasn't that old and nutty, or was he?
  8. I agree, you see seals scarred up from run ins with great whites and they have healed, a terrier attack is like a mozzie bite.
  9. I've got a 3/4 whip 1/4 grey and she's a decent worker. My opinion is get it out ferreting young so it gets a few knocks before it gets too fast. They are heart in mouth dogs but they do learn. Don't know about a first cross but mine has no problems with it's feet.
  10. I don't know, after watching those highly enlightened dog experts I'm getting my whippets PTS on case they mistake a kid for a rabbit.
  11. I used to like watching the Goodies as a kid, he should have stopped there.
  12. Same here in Oz plus they'd add "you silly cnt".?
  13. I doubt the authorities would care about a ferret breeding program when there is a killer virus around. They wouldn't even let people attend their mother's funeral.
  14. If I was going to breed dogs I'd be breeding for health as my first priority. Breeding for looks and colour as in show dogs is the worst but breeding for working ability could be bad if the dogs inherit other underlying problems.
  15. I've lost a couple of albino's over the years to skin cancer but they are still my favourite.
  16. Pretty good effort on the terrier's side imo, bad dog management from the owner but shit happens.
  17. Need a shot of morphine after a days hunting with some people, or before would be better, by crikey ?.
  18. I reckon you're a brave man, most of the hero pig hunters over here would be crying if a rat ran up their leg, lol.
  19. I can definitely relate to that, I hate hunting with other people. Everything they do gives me the shits.
  20. I think if someone was really interested they could resurrect the deerhound as a pure working hound. The problem is most hunters, including myself want a hunting dog for now and the crosses just are more useful in most cases.
  21. My point was it's a shame not many people have continued with the working line deerhounds, they crosses may be better at certain jobs but would be good to have good blood to come back to.
  22. They did pest control with them in rough country, not there for a picnic.
  23. Lol, roos are more dangerous than pigs for dogs and more like 40 plus mph. They can gut dogs when on the ground.
  24. No saluki blood? These dogs would clean up mobs of roos and then just all back in the truck, they used to take out a dozen dogs at a time.
