  1. Not as bad as furever homes and furbabies, lol.
  2. In some cases but I've ferreter properties and just gone and fed the working dogs on chains, because they were starving. I think it's a common theme.
  3. The heat tolerance maybe the only thing.
  4. Any likely mutt with not much heart can bail pigs.Even the little whippets will lug them.
  5. I'm not knocking your collies mate, I'm sure they are top dogs for the terrain and conditions you have and only seen some on vids and look hard as nails. It's dogs for jobs, so it's not fare to the great dogs to compare, same as lurchers. I'm not a farmer but do admire a good working animal for what it is.
  6. Plenty of blokes hunt hares here with lurchers, which are often labelled staghounds here as the word lurcher is not used much. You rarely see Saluki blooded dogs, only in the original Bull Arab pig dogs.
  7. With all the heat, sand and open spaces here you think Salukis would be popular but for some strange reason they barely exist ? lol.
  8. I think the Australian Cattle dog would not exist if not for wild dog blood and also most kepie lines.
  9. Amazing how everything that was sent over improved so much on the original crappy stock. ?
  10. Same as dogs, the more you have to do with them the closer and better the bond working and I believe they try to please you. I feel sorry for hunters that don't have that bond with their animals. I believe they are missing the best part of hunting.
  11. Shame because kelpies are considered the number one stock dog worldwide, even imported for working reindeer. I doubt the collies would be close to the working standard of a work bred kelpie. Your idea of big spaces may not be mine with some stations opver here bigger than some countries.
  12. They thrive on hard work, I know a rough old cattle farmer that has big kelpies for half wild Brahma cattle, they live and work well into their teens. He has one retired at 19 and it stays home keeping the chickens from wandering too far, lol.
  13. The kelpies need to think for themselves when working big mobs on paddocks, sometimes hundreds of acres. I think they are more like a refined Oz cattle dog than a collie.
  14. Always sad to see a young healthy dog pts but sometimes you can't find the right home and it's better for the animal. Different to some of the pig doggers over here that call themselves dog men doing experimental breeding and then culling whole litters when they don't perform to their expectations. One asshole who runs a hunting site here bred a litter of borzoi crosses for pig hunting then shot the lot at 6 months, they would be barely getting their legs, dumb cnt.
  15. I could recommend some plants that will overpower the ferret smell but you could do time.
  16. Just clean them out more, ferrets smell a bit even if clean so if neighbors whine tell them to fck off.
  17. Autumn over here mate so not coming into season until around October, November.
  18. Places here in NSW where rabbits have been wiped out have good hare numbers, must be filling a niche.
  19. The staghounds (deer/ greys) over here are very good hunters and used on everything from rabbits to scrub bulls, but they have been bred worker to worker for the last 2 hundred years and probably from workers before coming here. They are still softer natured than greyhounds. It's getting hard to find the genuine type now without other breeds added. A few people have tried to breed the original dogs from grey/deerhound crosses but the ones I seen and heard about aren't a patch on the old staghound lines.
  20. What about Chopper the Hopper Popper, stand over rodent.
  21. That's not much for the amount of exercise and fun you and your dogs would get out of it.
  22. They'd be good to exercise if your dogs will go with it. When my dogs are past the pup stage and have done a bit they won't chase anything that doesn't have a heartbeat.
  23. I just had my daughter and 2 year old grandson up for two weeks bird, Nice to see them but need two weeks to recover ?.
