  1. Don't worry mate you'll be in good company in hell with everyone on the site ?.
  2. My mate has parson whippet crosses that almost never bark or yip even when running something. My Parson is the noisiest dog generally? but is mute when hunting.
  3. Even if you cloned a stand out dog it's not the same animal as the original, it would have to go through the exact experiences in it's career hunting. I think put the bitch to a similar but unrelated dog then put the brother over a bitch pup kept, even a youngster at 2yrs is a better option if you want to keep a healthy line.
  4. If you do pest control you don't have a choice. I still prefer hunting rabbits in hard spots than any big game. But you need good rabbit dogs.
  5. That's it, you don't want to be slaving for someone, more so as you get older. Despite the old saying that hard work never killed anyone, I'm afraid it does.
  6. They are rabbit dogs due to their build and size and settle down once the ferrets are in. I wouldn't class them as pig or even fox dogs. They will have a go at anything over here but pretend not to see feral cats, lol.
  7. I wish my rabbit dogs were jackers on other stuff. Getting old and prefer not trying to get the stick insects off pigs and big roos when out for a quiet day's ferreting, lol.
  8. Don't shoot any of them, set up a pig trap and catch all of them. Fatten up the young ones to eat.
  9. I think your going to cement any underlying weaknesses in your dogs, breeding bro to sister, which will be hard to remove without outcrossing anyway later on.
  10. Had an accidental litter of brother to sister pits years ago, there were two spectacular pups, huge and healthy and there were some tiny runty pups, nothing in between. They were all fighting trying to kill each other at 5weeks. I personally wouldn't mean to do this breeding. I know serious breeders do this mating to expose weaknesses in their line but I wouldn't have the stomach for it.
  11. All in all I'm still glad I chose a bitch.
  12. Mine is only aggressive to me when I offer her a piece of meat and worse if I don't.
  13. Yeah, mines heavily bull blooded.
  14. Gus, I think you just killed Chopper ?.
  15. No it's true, when you see a women doing that you know they wont come back. Not that I know from personal experience ?.
  16. You don't have to worry about yours coming back any time soon, lol.
  17. Mine at 7 has a calmer temp and drive but I must admit I miss the daredevil runs, clearing barb by mm at full speed, somersaulting into trees and trying to nab rabbits going down holes at 40 km's an hour. ? lol.
  18. What I've seen most hunting dogs run smarter with age and experience, it's a good thing to avoid injuries. Reckless dogs don't usually live long but my blue whip/stag was the worst for it when young. Luckily she calmed down, it only took 5 years of near heart attacks from my side, lol.
  19. I think it's for humane reasons, you can use scent dogs and terriers to find them and rifles over a certain caliber. Seems to me using dogs is more humane than them dying in agony for days with a missed placed shot.
  20. Best way, over here in Oz poaching is frowned on by farmers and most hunters but I reckon most have done it. As far as I know you can only hunt pigs legally here with dogs but never heard of anyone getting done except on deer.
  21. Nice animal mate, looks a very capable small game dog.
  22. I knew a bloke who worked 2 Basenji's on feral cats and foxes with good success.
  23. I don't doubt that, I had a bullmastiff cross pit that would run all day and even caught a few roos after a short burst. I bred his mum , the pit, 7 years later to a bulldog and the pups have no stamina. At 17 the pit/bullmastiff got into a fight with his bulldog/pit brother 10 and flogged his arse. I could imagine a bullmastiff lurcher having endless stamina.Pic of Bubba the pit/bullmastiff at 18, had to PTS about 6months later.
  24. A good life and a long one too, all we can ask for, R.I.P Honey.
  25. Only ferret during the day so whatever dogs I have with me will just pile in on them so I couldn't rate them, lol.
