  1. Sorry I have,nt read the full thread, but to me my hunting is just a massive urge to be away from the shite of the modern world, I still go and spend a few nights just sleeping outdoors every year, and even though I,ve clocked up a few years on my life clock I,m still quite happy that I could survive comfortably without to many of the things most people have become reliant on in today's fake world, it's my basic animal instinct, that I,m proud is still alive and kicking
  2. absolutely love those bullfinch pics,I only ever see one or two in a year usually if I'm lucky
  3. My first week back to work after Christmas, and I took a bit of a fall, resulting in a fractured ankle, torn ligaments and a couple of chipped bones, which left me in plaster on crutch,s, never really got to grips with the crutch,s so I started chopping them about a bit and today whilst being bored due to the crap weather, put the bits together to make a starship catty,, have,nt had a lot of chance to shoot it but the first few shots are pretty promising, it seems very powerful due to the extended draw length and hits were you point it, will take it out in the week for a proper go, but here it
  4. i made some slider for Christmas and rather potent it was to, it's made by keeping the sloes from my sloe gin and sloe vodka, when bottling it up,then put all the fruit in a large sealable container and pour a gallon of scrumpy over it, you can drink it within a week and it tastes lovely and knocks your socks off, I left one a bit too long and it started fermenting and blew the tub up but I recon if you put one of those bubble valve thingys in the top it would just get stronger and stronger, that's for the next lot I do
  5. in my youth there was a company in Cornwall called cobbledicks, and they used to buy everything, fox pelts were just laid out flat on a bin bag wet and rolled up into a sausage with an elastic band round and struck in the freezer, when the freezer was full it was just packed in a cardboard box and posted off, he would grade them and send you a cheque, fox pelts were between £15/25 squirrel tails 50p hares masks, jays wings and just about everything else all had value we even used to get bags of shells from the beach and he would pay you for them by weight, the Chinese chip shop used to buy all
  6. here is a hazel natty I,m just doing, it's shaped to be held in the right hand, hope this works as its my first piccy uploaded here,
  7. put one of those heat bulbs in there coup and extend there daylight a bit and they should keep laying all winter,
  8. I was about 30ft up a tree on hampool in cerney, watching a group of carp and deciding were to lay my traps, when the branch snapped and on my way crashing down through the branch I snagged my leg on another branch that went into my thigh just above my knee and stopped just below my waist, I then hit the deck, seven days and two ops later I arrived back home, I'd only gone out for a short evening stalking
  9. . I got stopped some years back, driving an old motor home that had been off the road for years, dvla attempted to recover back tax for quite a few years, but after a few visits in front of the local beak, and much manipulation of the truth by said dvla, they were awarded one days back tax, which at the time was about £8 with costs,as they could only prove it was on the road for one day, it was worth the three days of work I missed just to see there main prosecutors face as she grabbed her folders and left the court rather hastily amid howls of laughter from the public gallery, Haymin if you do
  10. They are gorgeous, lovely to see such skills still alive in the throw away world we now live in, top marks
  11. Nice one big hands and welcome aboard, nice collection of catty,s you have there,

  13. cant really tell from your piccys, but looking at the quarter bumpers and the cheese grater air filter, I,m guessing it may be a gt model if so the value is much higher, and even higher again if it's a two door model, if it's a basic four door, it will be hard to restore to a decent level, without spending more than it's worth, if you have found a 2door gt it's worth a fortune as it stands it's a 2 door pal Gt 1500 nice one mate not quite a lotus but not to many rungs down the ladder, you have hit the jackpot

  15. Fly tying Think there's a fishing lure company in the US who advertise each year for squirrel tails. They only offer a few pence per tail. i used to get 50p each back in the early 80s, did,nt realise just how lucky we were then
  16. thanks for that lutra we seem to share very simular views on the people meant to be protecting what we love, I really have know interest in walking up a Tarmac path to watch nature from an appointed spot, the bird I saw is skirting on the edge of a few hundred acres of old English type woodland, dotted with a few acres of conifer, there is also a golf course and many acres of marshland nearby, on the downside there are also two or three small pheasant shoots on the edge of these woods though not directly we're I saw the bird, I will keep you posted if I get any more sightings, I,m on the trail
  17. they are some seriously nice catty,s you have made there mate, a little bit showie for general use but beautiful if your into collecting, well done, out of curiosity do you have to go through photo bucket or such like to add pics or can you do it directly from an iPad ??
  18. I can remember geting £23 for wet skins,£25 for dry, drying was not worth the hassle for £3quid so all were sold wet.I know of 2 brothers that used to take from october to end of january of work to go at the foxs and were taking anything up to 15-20 a night lamping with the rifle. They customised an old hiace van cutting a square out of the roof and fitting a shooting rack where the square was cut,1 would drive along while the 2nd would do the lamping and shooting. They would start out at maybe 7pm and return at 5-6 am next morn traveling all over the country. we used to put snares around the bot
  19. i have,nt looked into this law but when I first heard about it a while back, l thought it was only for dogs under the age of 2 and older dogs were exempt? I don't mind having my dogs chipped as dog thefts are pretty rife, but some councils are now forcing people to provide there dogs dna if they wish to walk them in public parks, they then collect any turds, do a Dna test and send out fines to the offending owner, now that is a step to far, at least people have to commit a crime before having dna taken,
  20. the good old days, everything had a value jays wings, hares masks squirrel tails, along with the normal pelts, going back to the 80s we used to get upto £25 for a fox pelt and if they were tagged by the local uni a further £5 for the tag or £25 for a transmitter making a total of £50 for one fox with a collar, I would guess there is still a market somewhere but not in our country and the price of sending them abroad, if you were allowed would probably cost more than the fur was worth, maybe a small market with taxidermists ? Google is your friend in these cases
  21. its a forum after all mate we all entitled to our own thourghts and ways,,,no problem,,an i will get some photos sorted over the weekend of some of the catapults i make, there not ply wood that stuff aint my thing im more of a traditional feller.. sweet look forward to seeing them, I,ve just made my first sling-bow still needs a bit of fettleing but early signs are pretty impressive, my first shot went straight through my garage door and just missed my car, need a more beefy backstop
  22. is that not a ring Ozzle as opposed to a blackbird, the blackbirds near me are doing really well after a wet winter, and I even have a pair starting to put a nest together in the hedge, song thrush,s are thin on the ground and mistle thrush even more scarce, I spend quite a bit of time in Gloucester, only about 25 miles from home and I see song thrush,s every time I go up there, so I guess it's quite a regional thing
  23. he mo yes mate, they travel so fast and true, they more than make up for the concussion effect of bigger heavier ammo I have just got myself a set of lead moulds to make them from lead in 10mil hopefully that will still travel fast and straight enough with a little more thump, the way you cut Theraband makes a real big difference to what kind of ammo you can use with itI've been using 10mm lead with theraband green does the job well from what I've seen even leaves exit wounds at close range, just picked up a 12mm lead mould so will have a go with them next. is Theraband green, flat like gold
  24. do you make the lead beans yourself or do you buy them in? I,m in the process of making a bean mould myself, among my many occupations, I have an old tipper and collect scrap, but as the prices are so bad at the mo I thought it would be better turning all my lead into fishing weights and catty ammo, do you think there is a market for the lead beans you use? As I can make bean moulds in pretty much any size were as the ball moulds I have to buy in
  25. cheers for that dude it's the point I was trying to get at, I have know problem hitting stuff with the 9.5 steels but it often seems to pass through what you hit giving it a chance to run off before keeling over, OK in the day as you can usually find it with the dog, but I hate loosing game knowing I've hit it cleanly, for most of my life I've shot rocks and small pebbles from the local beach, and may even return to them, but as every one on tinternet seems to be using steel balls I thought I would give it a go, but like I,ve said I love the accuracy of them but could do with a bit more stoppi
