  1. I know it's not about falconry but it's raptor related, firstly since seeing the goshawk there was a news story on our local news a few weeks back, the body of a goshawk was found and after an autopsy it was found to have been shot, I can't confirm if it was the same one but it was witching ten miles of my sighting, really gutting even if it was,nt the same one, but onto a more rare and bizarre story, three nights ago I was sat in my back garden having a smoke and as usual I was watching the sky above, when i spy an absolutely huge bird of prey along way up, it flew for miles without beating i
  2. Running water, closed season, still water owners discretion, simples
  3. Repeat captures of so called mug fish can even happen in lightly stocked lakes, rivers and canals, I caught the same carp from the same swim with a year or so between them on the K&A canal which is 90 miles long, have also had canal carp miles apart with many locks between captures, some fish just love bait while others live on a more natural diet and seldom if ever get caught by anglers, the fastest recapture I ever saw, was many years ago when I was at cuttle mill, had a 28lb mirror, photos done fish returned, quick rinse of my hands and as I stood up my mates rod tip hooped round and af
  4. what are you after mate do you just want the bands and ties or are you after the bands attached to a pouch? Let me know and I will get you sorted
  5. just took a hundred to the PO and they will do second class for £3 but wanted nearly £6 for first class, I've just put some on eBay if anyone wants some straight away, as my kids have set me up a PayPal account but I don't know how to use it without going through eBay, will get the kids to show me over the weekend how to take payment, and should be able to sell direct, I,m away for the bank hols but should be up and running by Tuesday/Wednesday cheers
  6. . Your post would mean a lot more with a picture of what you got today,?
  7. Thanks for the reply,s lads I,m going away for the weekend, but when I get back will get it sorted, will have to find the postage costs out for them, but my local PO got blown up yesterday trying to rob the cash point, also I,d like to get a few thousand ready so people don't have to wait to long, but it looks like a goer, so should be available by mid week next week
  8. I would say yes as they line up pretty well just sitting on your arm the power is way beyond a normal catty even with lighter bands on, also a lot easier to make than the ply version I have the ingredients for another crutch one if the wooden one is not as good
  9. I think the postage would work out at about an extra £3 just wondering if that seemed about right
  10. My son bought me a pack of lead ammo from the local gun shop recently and I was a little shocked that they charged him £20 for 100x10mm lead balls, so with that in mind I bought my self a 12 mm mould and today I thought I would give it a whirl and I knocked out around 100 per hour, so if you were making a living from it £20 per hundred does not seem that excessive, but as I'm just doing it as a hobby in my spare time, and I have the lead for free I was thinking of putting the 12mm lead balls up for £10 per hundred, was just wondering what people think, trying to get some feelers, if it's a go
  11. . Not yet banded up but here is the wooden starship, also made a little ply side shooter for a mate of mine out of the off cuts, I think there will probably be a few more changes before I get completely happy with it but not bad for a first venture into the world of ply catty,s
  12. alright mate I will put it up in a bit for you, have it in my sat nav but son is out in the van at the mo, also spell check changed lea,s to lees, so if you type stubby leas into your search it will take you straight to his face book page, if your into cats he also runs a catfish lake just across from stubbys, his name is Jamie, and he will be able to sort you here it is ws13 8pt
  13. Just a little heads up to the carp boys, a friend of mine has just invested a small fortune in some of the best and fastest growing carp in the country, he is not a farmer with a muddy puddle, but a carp angler trying to create a fantastic venue for others, so if your in the staffs area and fancy some great fishing give him a shout, just type the name above into Google and it will take you to his Facebook page, he has photos of every fish he's stocked plus there are a few unknowns in there, it's not been fished before and even the new stuff has been left unmolested since last year while being
  14. mate, you can call one lucky, but two, that's just down to good shooting, and them squirrels can take a bit of stopping as well, lovely catty, nice dog and some fine shooting, fairplay
  15. glad it arrived mate, hopefully a new hunter will be born, ATB Paul
  16. im working on a job at the moment ,and there is loads of off cuts of top quality ply so tomorrow I will collect as many up as I can and next week the wooden starship will be born, how do you find yours to shoot, is it much more powerful than a normal catty and what's the accuracy like,I have made two and the one in the photos was brilliant but I can't get to grips with the second one, strange as the only difference is the forks, and it does not seem as powerful as the first and shoots about 2 foot lower using the same aim points, but I think I have gathered all the info I need from the first
  17. I had to clear out a carpentry workshop recently, and there was a simular saw to that one in there, the main problem I had selling it was the fact it was 240v and you are not allowed to use it anywhere, I flogged it for fifty quid in the end,it went to someone else's garage, for home use
  18. . am afraid I,m a work in progress with regard to the Internet mate, I broke my ankle in January so had time to learn how to use an I pad, I can now sign in talk to you and add a photo, but a video might have to wait awhile, there are lots on YouTube which is were I first saw them, if you are thinking of doing one I would say don't hesitate, it seems to me they are the next level in catty shooting, the crutch version is an easy starting point because most of the stuff you need is in the crutch it's just a cases chopping it about a bit, but my next one is going to be an all wood version, m
  19. Cheers for that I have not been sealing them with anything, just cut them leave them in my garage for a year then off I go, it does seem to be the heat of taking them indoors that accelerates the cracking, I have made a few clock faces, that were absolutely fine until they came indoors, then they just split almost overnight, I guess I just need to be a bit more patient when seasoning them, cheers for the advice anything else just fire away
  20. I have been making a few house name plaques from discs cut from logs or biscuits, my main issue is how long should the wood be dried out and is there anything I can do to stop them splitting as some of them look lovely for 6 months or a year but then start to crack, the discs are normally around a foot or two across with a thickness of about two inch, any tips or advice on treating the wood much appreciated thanks
  21. Fitted my led lensor p7 gun light to the beast last night and took it for a little mooch, have to say for a first venture into starship cattys it's pretty awesome the power from this design is absolutely rapid, only disadvantage it's not as discrete as a normal catty and at a glance looks a bit like a gun which might get a bit of unwanted attention, i think my next one will be made of wood but it's definitely a design worth a bit more of a look into
  22. nice bit of quality work there mate love the hand swells what materials did you use ?
  23. that is a lovely bit of work by your old man, wish I had one like it, ( dad not catty )I recon you could fit some flats on that without much problem, I know it's a trust issue and I won't be offended if you say piss off, but I would be happy to have a tinker with it in my man cave and get it fitted out with a nice pouch and some tbg bands for you, alternatively if your happy to do the work yourself I will sendyou the stuff to do it yourself, IE bands pouch and some ties A.T.B Paul Great offer that is mate well done cheers mate, it's one of the few pleasures of getting old, you realise you ca
