Classic Hunting And Best Hunting Weight For .177 Cal`
philpot replied to mark williams's topic in Airgun Hunting
I know Mitch has a great deal of confidence in AA Express and I do for accurate target pinking but I just don't seem to be able to get the results in the field. I'm sure it is me but switching to Bis Mags in .177 and the problem just went, clean kills. I would have thought if it was just my bad shooting (which at times I'm sure it is) I would be off with the Bis Mags as well. Strangely enough I was down on the dairy farm in daylight the other week shooting ferals off the shed roof tops with good kills, went back the next day, missed every bird I shot at. Same gun, same pellets, same range -
I agree Si, as I have fac, the Impact can be 'messed' with to your hearts content although I have not done so. I would have the Crown in fac version if I went down that path, so much more versatility than 12ft/lb and of course that is what FX design their guns for, not UK legal limit. Phil

Another cracker from FX Si is the Crown, very very interesting mate, it would look really nice in my FX cabinet http://hardairmagazine.com/news/event-news/iwa-2017-day-one-new-fx-crown-air-rifle-announced/?utm_source=Hard+Air+Magazine+Subscription&utm_campaign=47b351d63c-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_12_31&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c48f609679-47b351d63c-130385445 Phil

Sorry but that to me was kids stuff and boring.

Paul, I have had shotguns for over 45 years and love them but air rifles have given me loads of pleasure and I think you will enjoy your new gun. Phil
-
I just sent you a text So to see if we can get together Sunday but sounds like you have plans mate. The Streamline looks very nice Si, from Rob I take it. You and I are now in multi fx club.........cool. Phil

There was a split box which went in my pocket, looking forward to having a bit of fun with this.

Found one today for £70 Phil

You are right Paul, I found a No3 bore garden gun or 9mm in metric. I fired off a couple of rounds into the range which peppered the back drop nicely at 25mt so should have a bit of fun with the rats or ferals close up. £13.00 for a box of 50 shells so not likely to break the bank. It is a project, needs reblueing and a touch of stock work. What blueing (buggered if I know how to spell that ) does anyone use. Phil

No Room At The Inn I know that feeling Jimmy, I had to buy another shotgun cabinet to house extra guns thinking all my air rifles will then fit in one of the cabinets......................NO WAY. It is even worse as I just bought a baby shotgun today so even less space. A third cabinet perhaps...............................................god knows where I would fit it however. Phil

Can we use a Primos tripod because Mark and I will want to. Phil -
I like the fact that the guy goes casually shooting in the woods wearing his medal It would be interesting to know what the shot count is. Phil

I wonder if it is going to be front end heavy though Rez but nevertheless, nice clean lines. Phil

Yes I will happily take it over to show Simon and I am sure he will make it sing. Once I have got it scoped up, zeroed and started to produce some decent groups, I will get in touch with him and have a drive over. Nice idea Jimmy. -

Plus one Si -
I know where you are coming from Tim and agree, in fact I may get a .410 O/U 3'' for US skeet shooting which is brilliant fun mate but this little gun is no more than just something I fancy, nothing more with very low expectations. I certainly will not be paying much for one that is for sure and if I don't find one for less than £, I won't be getting one. At that money I can sell it, at £130ish, I will not get my money back and on a whim, I want to keep the cost down. I know a chap who is going to sell all his guns which include a .410 and 12 gauge hushpower along with various others s

Thank you very much Jimmy, Charlie is going to be a very happy little fella. I have the fishing gear for him at the ready and now he will have a gun to boot. We will be keeping him active in the fresh air in a short while starting to learn about field sports. Cheers mate Phil -
I cannot disagree with you but it is just one of those things that keeps coming up in my head and I have a feeling that I can pot a rat or two with it. It is never likely to get much use, just an itch that I need to scratch. It will for sure be used to teach my grandson gun safety when old enough. Phil

Depending if anyone is wanting one of these childrens guns, I would like to put my grandson's name, Charlie into the frame and although he is still too small for one, it would be lovely for him when he is old enough to use it. I do NOT want to jump in if someone has already set their hearts on one for their child / grandchild though. Phil -
Thank you for that Paul. I have had a call from a friend this morning as he knows of one close to us so I am going to follow that one up first. Phil
-
Right chaps I am after a litte help and ask you to keep an eye open please when you call in your local gunship as I am on the look out for the above. It is also known as a 9mm garden gun made by Webley and Scott and very similar to look at as a bolt action .410 shotgun. It is something I have thought about every few years or so and whilst it has very limited use, great fun on rats. Sadly no longer made although 9mm brass cartridges are still easily available. Anyway, if any of you come across one of these little shotguns on your travels, I would be grateful if you could let me know.

When they have outgrown them, you can fit the normal size stock. What a great shame there is no BSA conversion to 12ft/lb for when the kids grow. Phil
