  1. Oh great Matt. I am going out today and try to find a slightly protected spot to play with the rifle testing ammo / zeroing at longer range. It may not be any good but just need to get out. Phil
  2. I'm going stir crazy, desperate to do some target work at range with my rimmy but the winds and rain.....................................film, log burner on and a gin & tonic, shoot another day. Phil
  3. Must confess, I love these early two piece stock versions. My 200t is so accurate and once it is taken up to 11.5fpe from the 6fpe it is running at now, it will be my sub 12 rifle and a keeper. I don't like the newer stock versions at all, just don't feel nice in the hands. Phil
  4. Thank you for that kind offer as well. It has crossed my mind already but to be honest I am desperate for some good weather to test the rimmy out to max ranges and be happy with the ammo before I start with the NV for this gun, I will however take you up on the offer if it is still around when I am ready. Thanks again Phil
  5. It will. I have the Viper with an extra IR T50 torch which will then give all the range you need for fac air and rimmy. I will also be honest and say I am considering a dedicated NV some time next year but cannot knock the NiteSite at all. Phil
  6. Not sold on anything for certain yet Mitch nor could I afford to just splash the cash at the moment but it more a process of elimination. I know the NiteSite Viper very well which has helped with a great many kills and I am sure it will on my rimmy as it does on my fac air rifles. I have never tried the Photon, ATN, Pulsar or Ward so whilst various people have said how good these units are, and I don't doubt it for a minute, however I have not tried any of them. Before I retired, I would have just bought whichever and see how it went but I don't have that luxury now so the purchase has to
  7. Just remember Jon the issue I had with the NiteSite Viper on my Mamba Lite scopes. Spray some silicon on the inside of the rubber scope connector and allow to soak in overnight. As the recticle focus ring is bulkier than other scopes, you may need to hold the eye bell in one hand and ease the rubber sleeve on with the other as you can damage the scope. My NiteSite sits really well and very sharp on the Lite so should yours mate. Phil
  8. To be honest, with age my eyes simply don't see the fine details of the target using a scope set for 100mt fixed parallax but by using an AO scope, I am able to get the subject really sharp. The issue is made worse by sub 12 airgun range but for me it is more to do with being an old tart. My pal used fixed parallax scope with no problems so his eyes must be better than mine. Phil
  9. Ahh now twigged the message Jimmy. Thank you mate, that sounds like a cracking idea and very good of you (as usual). We can try to arrange something nearer the time buddy and it will be good to meet up with you boys again. Phil
  10. The best groups in mine are with AA Fields 25.4gr which also happens to be the lightest pellets I have. For sub 12 the JSB RS would be ideal but I am not aware if they are made. Just found these at which are lighter but have no knowledge of them. http://www.uttings.co.uk/p103528-bsa-pylarm-25-pellets-x-200-706/#.WiUZ3oZl8dU & http://www.uttings.co.uk/p103638-handn-field-and-target-trophy-25-pellets-x-200-hnftt25p/#.WiUaKYZl8dU Hope this helps Phil
  11. What set up have you got and I will sort you a few out. Phil
  12. I have to agree Rez they do tend to be all the same. I have seen a couple from Canada where there was greater detail in the preparation than the shot itself. I watched this one Si and to be honest, keeping the rat in the sights whilst it goes through death throws is just good canon fodder for the anti groups. Phil
  13. Now sorted thanks guys. Now need to look for a couple more mags. Phil
  14. The point I am making is that all this type of rangefinder cannot be set correctly for position on the gun without an NV unit. Mitch put up a post a couple of weeks ago saying good value for day / night and I agree they are, it is just that, I think day time shooting is still handled better with a Hawke 400 / 600 where at least you can be sure you are pointing at the quarry distance rather than 'somewhere in the area' situation. Si as the Yukon is both day and night, it would be good to know if the flicker is seen through the yukon in daylight as it is a digital camera / screen or once se
  15. My 200t (two piece stock) is running at 6.35fpe which is fine for target work but for the short term I fancy taking it up to 11 - 11.5fpe. The gun has the exposed adjustment nut / screw on the side but not sure how to adjust and if anything else needs changing. The gun will be taken back down to 6fpe after I have used it at the higher level for a while. I have taken the diopter sights off and fitted a scope to do a bit of ratting. This is the gun. This is not for open forum, obvious reasons, so if anyone can help, please PM me. Phil
  16. Right Si, now you have one of these units, please tell me this......................................can you see the rangefinder flicker if you simply point it down your garden in daylight with the naked eye. If not, it wouldn't be seen through a day scope either which does make me wonder how it works as a day and night rangefinder. Good talking earlier Si and thanks for the info mate. Phil
  17. If that was close, I would come out of retirement for that one. Phil
  18. After testing most of the .25 pellets available, the best groups went to AA Fields 25.4gr with JSB King Heavy in second however I started testing H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme which gave good results but I confess to sticking with the AA as they just make rabbits simply fall over dead. If you go the .25 route Mitch, don't waste money on H&N Grizzly.....................................the worst pellet on the planet, grouping at around 3'' at 25mt so god only knows what they would be like at 40mt let alone 70 - 90mt that the AA will perform to. Phil
  19. Many farms have either a rubbish pile or cesspit so just ask the farmer where to throw the unwanted birds. Phil
  20. I have the FX Impact .25 fac producing 95-105 shots per fill at 47.5fpe, not sure what size the bottle is but around 500cc Phil
  21. As a matter of interest, what gun have you got. Phil
  22. I couldn't agree more with your comment on perceived fashion which has been found over and over again in the clay shooting scene, some of which were of no use whatsoever whereas others proved to be a great success. I confess to a strong liking for multichoke however I tend to set chokes for the task in hand and not change them during that type of shooting. I use a 32'' gun but still own a 26'' which still puts a smile on my face when I do use it on occasion. I will use 24 or 28gr for all clay shooting from skeet to Olympic trap with the appropriate choke. 29 or 32gr for pigeon/crow shooti
  23. SbS are lighter and that is the ONLY advantage if you are walking or standing for hours. O/U have less muzzle flip, the extra weight reduces the effect of recoil and bear in mind many of today's cartridges are faster than those of years ago, single sighting plane, single selective trigger, multi chokes of offer many different uses/aspects of quarry shooting and finally, the weight helps to keep your swing steady although it takes slightly more effort to start the swing. I could NEVER to back to shooting a SbS with double triggers, no wonder they don't sell in the shops.
