  1. Hope you can get a refund or swap to another gun. Good luck whatever you do. Phil
  2. 1000% agree, Wildcat is a different league.
  3. Hey up Stranger, you are still a bit of a kid in my eyes as chase my 7th decade. However I still feel 30 in my head but 90 when I get out of bed. Still we only live once so make the most of it and don't be tight, get a decent rangefinder bought. Phil
  4. That BSA pile of crap is wildly front end heavy with a lousy balance and to be very honest, I am really amazed at BSA releasing a gun as bad as that one. The Ultra, Scorpion and R10 all feel great in the shoulder with weight between the hands but the Defiant is way off the mark imo. Far better guns out there Rez than those two mate. Phil
  5. Very true mate, I think many of us have a soft spot for Ethan..........................................................only wish I could tell what he says because his accent is stronger than either you or Sean. Phil
  6. I don't think you can beat .25 but I like mine with 47fpe up it's skirt ? Phil
  7. At £140 for a mod, I would want shares in the company......................and then you have to drill it to stop the pellet clipping, fcuking joke. Phil
  8. About bloody time big fella......................................? I don't remember Ethan having curly hair or is this a new look. Good to see him back again Jimmy Phil
  9. Only picked one up in the RFD to get a feel of it.........................................................put it back down very quickly. Heavy lump, not a good feel when shouldered and a bloody awful cocking system which just feels wrong. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but this is not for me. Phil
  10. You are a brave man Sean, it would frighten the life out of me at the thought of stripping down the gun and making parts then fixing it.............................think I need the toilet just at the thought of it. Phil
  11. You will get more shots per fill on the full length version but no difference in performance. Phil
  12. Bad news Sean but in all honesty, I would not have sent it to Airfective in the first place as ASI have been spot on for me. As I said before, they did a full service and changed the shroud, picked it up and delivered it back all FOC with everything perfect and the gun was out of warranty. If your was new Sean, why pay someone to do the work. Phil
  13. I don't know yet Mitch but something will come to mind so no worries on that score ? (on that score, did you notice that play on words ) Phil
  14. I have been to hospital today for further tests regarding my right eye and have had what is called a Slit Lamp retinal scan. The result of that is that I have a cataract in my left eye which I didn't know about and two different cataracts in my right eye which is really not great news BUT what an excuse for missing ? Phil
  15. Yes, I would agree Mitch, it can't be much difference to our Impacts. When I last put mine through the RFD's Skan chrono, it was 47.3fpe down to 25.1fpe using AA Fields 25.4gr. As far as I can tell and you would know better than myself Mitch, the crown uses much of the Impact parts and control methods/adjustments so it is fair to say that if the power range is 'X' on the Impact, the Crown will be pretty much the same. Phil
  16. I should have said that for both types of rod, I have bought the LC-MT version which is a mixed tip and has more feel that other versions according to my friend and from what I have already found for myself, this seems to be the case. I should also say that the Jacks can be power up a bit for the cast, not a full pendulum cast by any means but an arialized ground cast will put the lead a long long way. The Unix is an overhead thump rod which of course both can be cast in this way if a simple cast is all you want, the lead will still go like hell. I have bought an extra Jacks thi
  17. Have you bought it or are going to buy it Mark. Phil
  18. Time for some good buys then. Lureflash is the owner of FR and manufacture flies and other gear so they may not be the part of the company going down but who knows. Phil
  19. It has been a few years since I packed in sea fishing from both shore and boat but the urge took me again. Well the boat has gone and I sold all my Zziplex beach rods / reels so it is a case of starting again. Always a mistake to sell expensive rods because to replace my rods is now a fortune even s/h and as I am now retired old tart, the salaries are no longer coming through the letter box to allow me to simply replace them. Time to rethink the situation. I contacted an old friend who had left sea fishing at the same time as me but was back at it again so I had a good look at the gear he
  20. Lureflash / Fishing Republic head office is worth a look, a bit of a bomb site inside but you can pick up some really good gear at superb prices and not far from you, Rotherham. I have bought several pairs of chest waders from them at brilliant prices. Scroll through the pages linked and you will find some cheaper rods. https://www.fishingrepublic.co.uk/fly-fishing-tackle.html?p=1 Phil
  21. Please forget my earlier comment as I have just been advised by Pav that the cocking lever can be transferred to the other side. Phil
  22. Most of my perch fishing is done on ultra light gear and the 'go to' lure is a Spinmad Tail Spinner which has caught more perch and smaller pike than anything else in the bag. I use both 4gr and 6gr which give superb action. Sometimes a Kopyto Lime green or white 3 / 4'' can be effective. We all like different things. http://www.spinmad.pl/en/lures/tail_spinners/ Phil
  23. Cod can run well up the Humber and flounder for miles as they are not affected much by the change in salt to fresh. There is a pond inside the Humber bank where anglers have chucked in flounder over the years and on occasion a white flounder is caught in the pond. Phil
  24. That will do you fine to at least get a feel for fly fishing. I had an Orvis Frequent Flyer 7 piece, lovely rod with a nice action. As with all casting including beach casting, for which I am a casting instructor, many people try too hard using 80% effort and 20% technique. What is needed is 80% technique and 20% effort. Make the blank work for YOU not the other way around. It took me quite some time along with lessons to get it right and I am certain that my style would be frowned upon by the purist fly fisherman but it worked for me. Good luck with it and enjoy. One thing, don't bu
  25. I have done quite a bit of fly fishing from small brooks with a 5# to large lakes for pike with 10# rods and as someone already said a 5# rod is a nice middle of the road road for river and lakes. This weight rod I used quite a lot for catching coarse fish which can be great fun, chub will give a good fight. It is not easy to say what rod make to go for BUT when you fish other methods, float, ledger, lure etc, I personally found the faster tip rods suited me far better than softer tip rods. As with a number of sports, try before you buy is a good bet and one place I know of with a casting
