  7. I don't remember Mixie hitting and I'm 70 so would have only been 2 when it happened. Remember father saying they were piled up on the side of the roads. I was a nipper when I first went out with the ferrets and my father and two mates and me tagging along would be lucky to get a brace. Things slowly got better and better with mixie hitting in the summers often. Then recently this bloody RHD came along and I find down here it's patchy now little thick patches and other places just a few fields away void of them. Cheers Arry

  10. Where I live we still have Three proper Butchers in the High Street which is handy for selling rabbits. Also a market on Fridays and Saturday which has a good stall selling Evergreen Farm Dexter or Ruby Red meat which is excellent. I have had meat from Sherberton Beef which is Belted Galloways from Dartmoor at Hexworthy. You pay the same price per kilo for best cuts and say lower cuts or mince etc. If you buy a kilo of prime steak say you have to have a kilo of mince or such like, not a bad system. Nice meat as been grazing on the moors all year mixed moorland grasses. There are two

  15. Start Mushrooming by picking really easy ones mate. Giant Puff Ball is the safest one, Parasols another easy tasty mushroom if it's big has like a snake skin stalk safe mate. Another good one is the Hedgehog Mushroom a White cap with spikes instead of gills nothing to muddle that with except the Terracotta Hedgehog and you can eat that as well. Two others The Hen of the Woods grows at the base of Oak Trees or sometimes Sweet Chestnuts and Chicken of the Woods grows on the trunks of mostly Oaks phosphorus yellow sort of throngs plates often one on top of another. 18. This brought a memory flooding back excuse me for going off track. I was about ten I reckon and our family ask a farmer ( Commander Young) on the banks of the river Yealm in south Devon not that far from where we lived if we could camp. A nice green bank just above the high water mark. A smashing little place that emptied right out on the low water to expose big wide area of flat mud flats, us kids love running and wading in it Lol. Any we are all enjoying a nice day playing around and in the back ground a load of heifers are doing a lot of calling in the meadow just beyond. When all

  21. imo it's about finishing the stock off properly which you don't see much of these day. Years ago local Butchers had a couple of small fields they would buy bullocks and finish them off putting the layers on. It also used to be proper beef cattle not the mix of bits and pieces you seem to see in fields today. Was on a farm last year and said to the farm "christ John you got them bullocks looking nice" ( South Devons). We had a long conversation about finishing off and he's right most don't seem to bother. As for grass or grain imo it's grass then grain to finish them off. Cheers Arry
