I would genuinely argue that it’s not just a book about sports , of which they’re are few better , it’s certainly the best book about American sport , it’s more than that . It’s a total an utter analysis in teenage life and pressure we place on our children . Odessa Texas is a tiny town , with no hope, no jobs , the oilfields are bust , there is no future for the kids of Permian high school but they have the added pressure of being the most successful high school football team in the state . These kids have their lives mapped out for them , they are 15 / 16 years old and now the senior high school football team have their days of glory under the Friday night lights . you have Mike winchell , introverted , small , boyish , with a single parent mother with mental health issues as the quarterback . He has no hope other than to be the all state winning qb to get to college. don billingsley father was an all state star , now his son lives in the shadow of his father and has to live up to that calling But fate has thrown them a winning lottery ticket , they have a superstar in their ranks , boobie miles is the greatest running back of his generation, make no mistake , this is Michael Jordan and tiger woods rolled into one . all the Permian panthers have to do this s give the ball to boobie and they win state , and the life planned for them working offshore or in gas Stations is left behind . 3 games in boobie suffers a career altering injury . can these teenage kids , fight , claw and crawl their way against all odds to a better life ? it’s actually amazing . Astanley 11,465 Posted June 1, 2021 Report Share Posted June 1, 2021 Sorry Kenny ...it's an account of the relationship between the WW1 soldier and nature ,he uses diaries and letters home ,it's like a homage to how the average British man was so deeply entrenched in his with his love and belonging to a long gone countryside ,it's a beautifully written ,lyrical and poetic arousing of your emotions ,you will feel pride ,nostalgia and recognition of your own relationship with what pastoral beauty these isles have left .
