Its a fine line between saving as many people as possible from catching this thing to not totally shutting down the economy but i cant help thinking we should have done one or the other......either go for the " if he dies he dies " approach or go full on lock down, army patrols the lot.......time will tell i suppose.

I'm starting to think we maybe should've gone down the if he dies he dies road tbh, there has always been a financial decision on what a life is worth whether we like it or not from military equipment to medicines it's a tough call whatever you do I'm glad I didnt have to make it as someone will pull you up for it no matter what. According to labour (I don't believe these figures for 1 second) the austerity measures in this country the last few years cost 1 million lives I think they said, if they believed that themselves for one second then surely they should be screaming to protect the economy. When you weigh up the suicides due to isolation the impact of the knackered economy etc I wonder how it will compare to the death figures from covid, especially if you take out the ones that sadly all it's done is quicken the Inevitable by a few months.

I agree, it’s a balancing act no doubt, but even with the measures now in place we’re on course for 2k+ deaths per day within a week, and the NHS likely to reach breaking point very soon. ‘Herd immunity’ has become almost a taboo subject now, as it requires acceptance that some have to die to achieve it. But without a vaccine what other option is there? We can’t all hide in our houses forever. It’s all about a controlled burn through the population, I think we may be in and out of lockdown for a year or more.

Don't believe it. The measures in place now should tip the trend well before 2k/day (almost certain to be between 1 and 2k though). If folks get lax though then there will be a resurgence.

One very realistic option is large scale testing and contact tracing. Make this epidemic endemic (ie every infected person only infects one other person).

Herd immunity might well be what ends this but the attitude being taken is that letting it rip on through to that end naturally will result in preventable deaths due to the saturation of the health care system. Eg Boris might well have died had he not got oxygen and been left to fight it off in his own bed.

The thing I think folks are finding hard to comprehend with this virus is that it’s not a case of if you get it they just pop you off to hospital, treat you and if you are under 70 you will be fine.......it ain’t like that.

The hospitals CANT treat you because there is no treatment !!......they can keep you alive as long as they can manage and hope your body does the rest or you die....simple as that.

If you cop this it really is a coin toss if you live or die no matter what age you are, I repeat they CANT treat you.

Why even take the risk ?

Because some people "know their rights" and exercising them is more important than risking death. Like those c**ts who insist on using rights of way even though they don't really want or need to.

Most countries seem to have adopted the Lock Down approach to try and lessen the numbers requiring hospitalisation and avoid hospitals becoming swamped. During the early period there was no blueprint and no way of knowing what was best. As time goes on we learn from others who are further along the track. Also, in the last few weeks the Government have had time to increase hospital capacity and bring in more short term staff.

Time will tell whether the Dutch / Swedish approach of building up herd immunity quickly will be better than the managed Lock Down. But at the moment the people who are in charge of the country are doing what is deemed to be he best for the country based on the advice of experts in their field.

If your referring to me?  There's a 6ft guide between people and the silly bint was stood next to me like she was my missus, and I shouted not screamed,

It's people like her an the numpties still travelling around the country acting like it's a bank holiday that are not helping, the government have said not to do it and to stay apart so we should do it,

Quicker the virus is slowed down quicker country can get back to normal an I can get back to work.

If you don't think shouting and swearing at a woman because she stood to close to you once and apologised is ott then I don't know what to say really.
