A friend does conferences, they've just had to cancel their biggest annual event through force majeure with a loss of over half a million. For a company of 6 people, that is one hell of a knock. He takes a low salary but gets a share cut, this allows him to pay his mortgage, feed his family etc. His Mrs has just lost her job as director of reception in a hotel, so now they've had a double whammy from two completely different yet intertwine industries. His delegates would come from all over, stay at the hotels, eat in the bars/restaurants, fly through airports etc etc. That's the impact from just one very small company.

Perfect examples...business is interwoven that's how it works ..

BA mat well show big profits, but 2 months of non productivity at their rate of cash burn could see them teetering, then what? That's a huge hole to fill.... these huge companies make the world economy tick...

We will all feel it now, a lot on here are in the building trade, weve just had the worst 4 months of weather I can remember and now this, mortgage and rent breaks are a must in the short term, along with utility and council tax relief...we all have to share the burden..

When people live in a bubble, they fail to recognise this mate. The impact globally is huge. Like I said baggage handlers, food providers, loaders, security, checkin, taxis at every airport across the planet that BA and all the rest fly to. Have no jobs or massively reduced income.

Personally I think people will be forced to carry on as normal sooner rather than later. How long can we attempt to wrap ourselves in cotton wool?  Bills have to be paid. Jobs have to be done. I am in a vulnerable group but apart from self isolating which I have done all my days, I am pretty relaxed about the bug. Life has to go on. I think the hysteria will die down as reality sets in. We can't be in a hyper stressed state for the next year or so.

Quite right mate

Individuals have to react to their circumstances to protect those they can... I wont risk my wifes health as she is high risk, its common sense... will also protect and help the in laws as they're nearing 80... nothing massive, just basics ..

Surprised at that response Born. I thought private wealth, entrepreneurship, etc were the gods of the right? I thought the right viewed private wealth and therefore private hospital treatment as their just rewards for creating wealth in the first place?

Yeah, summat like that. LOL. Not sure many political ideologies have a section for 'national emergencies'.

Boris will certainly be coming somewhere. Hope Carrie doesn't find out. The cops will have to be called again for the din coming from Downing Street if she does find out. Incidentally, whatever happened to Boris the pantomine comedian? When I see him on the box now he looks horribly out of his depth, a bit like a guilty kid in front of the headmaster. Poor Boris doesn 't do serious or detail.lol

As a nation we are responsible for some of the greatest minds in the history of human beings....nobody makes judgement on a football match 3 minutes into the game when one of the teams is renowned for its great footballers.

Maybe we should have faith in our own people !

I hear you mate but the trouble is I lost faith in most of our people ages ago.

I love my motherland as much as anyone, probably more than a lot of people but it’s populated with a load of f***ing idiots and people who don’t give a f**k about it at the minute.

Not saying everyone is like that, but the right thinking folks are definitely in the f***ing minority......you know that yourself
