With regards to collie build, when I bought my first lurcher (just shy of thirty years ago) I was forever looking out for racy, leggy collies. However, since I stopped buying dogs with any sighthound blood I rarely think about their physical appearance. Well, that's not strictly true, but it's definitely my second or third consideration behind a) the pups character and b) the parents' character. I personally think my current pup's an ugly sod but he's got a great character. I once compared him and his older cousin Noggin by saying that if they were Hollywood actors then Noggin would be Brad Pitt or George Clooney whereas Ned would be Robin Williams or Harvey Keitel. I'm well aware that his character won't necessarily help him to catch anything ...but it will effect his temperament (which might effect it) and it'll make it a lot more likely that I'll want to spend quality time with him.

This post is a strange one you either need a running dog or you don’t I personally think on most people’s land this is from a level headed point of view with no disrespect meant to cj there end up piss poor on most people’s land as catch dogs as I personally think you can’t rely on brain power An temperament alone to make catches from gear that’s fleeing for life you need a moderate turn of speed that can be used as an when needed plus there only get slower with age as a dog with a little more speed behind it will be more capable still but I can see the use if your only wanting a dog to mark up,pin to nets an the odd rabbit in cover but can’t really see much reason for the cross to modern common lurcher man it seems like a backwards step and your purposely trying to restrict your self when the aim with any sort of breeding is to breed better than you’ve got I mean you could of just went out an bought a work bred pure collie in stead of breeding it’d of done the same job  if speeds not needed

Exactly that katch just a opinion with hopefully no hard feelings meant to no one    All Lurchers have faults even my ownBut there’s no argument of specialists bred dogs when there do the same as most Lurchers are expected to do but less any way yeah I understand that his dogs his rules bred for his needs I respect that but still think after there ready to get started there be on the merry go round as there no be what people are expecting from the dog not trying to be wise or a comedian or out just adding a honest opinion with no bull shit

Yeah I've noticed the lack of posts. But once you've bean there and done it, move on I suppose

john obviously has come to the conclusion that he dose not rely need a lurcher for his type of hunting, and that is up to him, I think these pups will be less scatty than pure collies because of the greyhound blood. it will be most interesting to hear about there progress in a totally honest way, whatever the outcome.

it all boils down to what you actually want or expect in a lurcher. katch says he doesn't see the point in small lurchers. I wouldn't want anything above about 21tts.i don't lamp. I require a dog to Bush, hit. cover, reliably mark holes and have enough speed to catch bolters & odd daytime rabbits & pheasant etc. if you lamp & want other stuff obviously they wouldn't suit.

Maybe the grasses were denied beans in there diet as a kid.
