Mate, just to be clear, I'm not questioning what you did. Just responding to AW.

No worries mate real interesting to get other experienced dogmen thoughts, but tbo you need to know the dog and seen the reaction

Though a few comments seem quite accurate ?

My old lurcher was a wanker for that sort of thing. Pathetically sensitive. Seems to get worse the more sighthound in a dog. I like real trusting dogs that even in pain trust you. It makes them so easy to administer first aid and work with imo.

Some dogs give little to no warning and just attack and I'm not convinced that these dogs haven't had a bollocking for all the warnings they have given in the past and learnt to tolerate such things until a point at which they are in extreme distress and then just explode.

As I say, I prefer a dog that is just very trusting but if you have one that is a bit sensitive then it becomes important to read it.

Agreed didn't get a beating just a slap across the nose and a shout of no that was my natural instinct kicking in I guess

Chaff, I suppose the best thing that can be said, is know your dogs 'in general'. I was taught from a young age 'never' to mess about with a dog when it's eating a bone/bones. And practically every dog I've seen when in panic mode, or whatever, will lash out. And your dog recently had a nail ripped out, so he's in pain, and you then go and 'examine' him, WHILST he's gnawing at his bones.

I'm not a dog 'whisperer' by any stretch of the imagination, just use common sense and a little basic dog knowledge.

All the best with him ?

Didn't think dandies owned hard dogs.

 Here you go again. Silly little digs. I seem to attract bitter infatuated weirdos on this site.

We just call em terriers and they come hard as well as soft. This stuff isn't particularly hard and neither would I want it to be.

Dad had terrier's as a kid not digging dogs we used them for rats and he said same regarding bones and being a kid I had to test to see if he was right?

Yep he was right got bit more than once lol but never drew blood and I kept quiet about it, he came home one day with a pup he was given by a traveler mate of his black and tan this would of been in the late 70s that was a mean bitch never messed with that one.

Anyone been proper chewed by their own mutt?

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea

Just got this stunning little bitch, nearly 12 months old, Deerhound x Bedie grey.
I used to go out with my dad's Lurchers when I was a kid but I'm a female in my 30's now and struggling to get back into the swing of things.
I'd love to have this girl knocking down bunnies but I just don't know where to start, I've barely seen a rabbit or and other quarry since I moved here.
Any of you experts in my area fancy giving me some advice/practical experience (hunting related only)
