Iv got mates that regular saying I'm busting for a pint or they've all got cans in their fridge but never had that urge to drink ! Iv been brought up in a rugby family my brother and all my cousins play don't get me wrong I drunk in youth rugby but only on a Saturday it wouldn't bother me if I never drunk again hate being drunk and if I drink on a Saturday usually means no hunting on Sunday so it's not worth the money hangover or missing out with the dogs

i gave up work 27 months ago due to family issues. Then the drink spiralled a bit drinking everyday.wake up the next morning feeling on edge and hungover.used to have a few cans morning time to take t

You need to stay that way socks,,,cos 4-6 cans of cider every night,,,plus a bottle of wine ,,,is called being an alcoholic

All ready is.just started boxing together Sundays too.

Would the panel regard me as an alcoholic? I drink around 4 pints a night of 5% cider and 6 to 8 pints a day on the weekends. That has been nearly every night for the last 15 years. I have to have blood test every three months and my liver stats come back normal. I work 363 mornings a year up at 6 every morning. If I have to work in the evenings the thought of a drink does not enter into my head.

To be honest I hate being drunk, yet love the taste of alcohol. If I do have a few more than usual and feel myself getting tipsy I tend to go straight to bed even if I have poured myself a fresh pint I will just leave it. There have been periods in that time where for tablets I have been taking I have had to lay off the booze, and honestly I did not miss it, that said, once the last tablet had been taken I would be back drinking.

Whether you wear that badge is a personal decision TC.........

Funnily enough I have been wondering if I am or not for the last few years, but came to the conclusion that (may be a simplistic view) as I did not consider myself an alcoholic I could not be one.

I should really cut down, but it's nice? There has been times in the past where I knew I had a problem, I didn't really do anything about it, I just sort of came out of it. I still drink every night, some times one, sometimes ten, weekends I can get really silly! BUT I'm doing nobody any harm. I don't drink at work, I don't drink and drive and I don't drink in my sleep lol so evenings and weekends when I'm usually to busy to actually drink that much anyway but I always have a glass with me (usually half full of sawdust or grinding sparks lol)

I got a fridge magnet of my parents the the other day saying

"I'm quite sure my last words will be"

Hold my beer and watch this!

And if I think about it, that will probably be true. It won't be drink that kills me, it will be me, being me, that kills me

Blimey what an interesting read......hats off to the chaps trying to improve their lives.....im probably the reverse of most people ive only just started drinking :D ......ive never liked the taste of lager and fitness being a big part of life for many years i just never needed or wanted it......an occasional glass of wine with a meal was enough for me......a mate of mine bought a little place in Wales and i went and stayed there last year bloody hell some of these local bitters are nice aint they  ........i dont expect a couple of pints per week really qualifies me as a drinker but im certainly enjoying the luxury of not treating my body like a finely tuned engine quite as much any more :D ......i always enjoyed good old east end boozers even as a kid the characters and atmosphere i found exciting it was just the drink that didnt really appeal to me......sometimes i suppose even as kids we grasp certain things,my ol fella should of been a wealthy man but pissed it all up the wall so that none of us had a pot to piss in......i never held a grudge against him but i promised God i would never do that.....he wasnt a drunk as such he was always smart, hard working and well respected he just drank too much and we all suffered for it and it probably steered me away from drinking early on in life.......like everyone else ive seen and been around a few sad cases at certain times folk with addictions have my utmost sympathy but ultimately i do feel it is down to the strength of an individuals will.........but thats easy for me to say ive never been an addict.

Interesting topic anyway......Socks when you told me them protein powders were not working you wasnt mixing them with cider was you .......no well in mate control your own destiny good lad.

Not drunk for a good few years now. I wont even have a chocolate liqueur lol

If I hadn't met the wife I would be in a right pickle literally  Never think about it now more than happy with a cuppa. Nothing wrong with drinking obviously it just don't agree with me so best avoided.

I have a bottle of ale or a couple of glasses of wine a night.

Hope it never becomes a problem because I would hate to go to the pub and not be able to have a couple or four pints of ale.

Never been a big drinker as such its not good for me ...when I do drink like on a session I don't really enjoy it but just go with the flow of the night.... Buzz wise I'd rather have a toke than a drink.

Interesting read and differences of opinion. TC from what u say a few beers on a night and a few more on a weekend I dont think you are an alki.

I like to have a drink. always have. Used to be daft as most have. Had a dry spell as most have and now I have a few through the week and maybe a few more on weekends. I like to have a beer with footy so usually get 4pack in where is used to be a 24pack!!! I have two beautiful kids now so very rarely get pissed and if I am having a proper drink its pre-booked in with the misus so she knows she is on kiddy watch on her own, I dont go near them if Ive had a drink.

Same as a previous post on here I can be bad for goin out for a few and getting carried away and I genuinly believe this is genetic or hereditory.

I have had spells where I drank everynight sometimes a couple bottles of wine but it didnt affect my work or home life so never saw it as an issue.

I agree about the habit, I believe that is exactly what it is. Getting used to goin to the fridge for a cold one after work.

I never drink and drive, not even 1.

I dont think I am an alki because I choose when I drink and choose when to stop. However I do drink for the effects and sometimes I come home from work feeling like I need a drink, to me this is stress levels NOT and addiction to the drink. I did dry Jan and was fine but I had a drink feb 1st!

The thing is I have a friend who likes to smoke. Being the good friend I am I put my arm around him and said your smoking that every day now like its just cigarettes, it doesnt have an effect on you and it has become the norm I think you have a problem mate. He said you have 2 bottles of wine on an evening drinking it like pop, it doesnt have an effect on you and has become the norm the onky difference is you pay tax on yours! I felt quite hypocritical at the time but it did make me laugh!

As said, when it affects other things it is a problem.
