With Dagenham Fords up the road it was Ford or nothing round here ......first car i legally owned was bought as a signing on fee by my old boxing manager, that and 6 months rent on the first house id

ford escort mark 1 about 1986 it was rarely legal and got to the point I just used to pull over when ever I passed a police car before they even moved

Had loads of old cars bought to rally about the old bing, A35's and the like.( wish I had them now) First car I had legal on the road was a 1972 mini pickup which I got as an mot failure for a bottle

Not a car but had a Vespa PX125E, red with chrome side panels, Florida bars etc and a Pittone baffleless exhaust (just so people could hear me coming)Took me to numerous rallies around the country. Really was my pride and joy.

25 years ago me and my brother gave £100

For an old

Sun blessed bread van with sliding doors

It still had the racks in that held the bread baskets

Great van just not fast

It was never locked because the key was stuck in the ignition

It got pinched about 10 times and we always found it about 200 yards away

No joy riding to be had at 20 mph

mme, my brothers and our mates had sort of "pool cars" which we used to share, triumph dolomite, ford zephyr, one of them had a very old zodiac stretch limo for a while 9on its last legs, he torched it in the end!). then my older brother got a plymouth barracuda which i was allowed to use sometimes. but none of them legal, it wasnt until i was in my 30s that i actually sat my test, and was gifted a lada samara flyte 1.5i. f***ing deathtrap, but like a rocketship on wheels from 0-40, used to beat xr3i's and golfs from the ligghts, just wouldnt go much over 45 mph!! but pretty reliable, drove from luton to paignton and back in a day (think it was about 450 miles)

30 years ago, Beige Mk1 1600L 4 door Cavalier, SGE57R cost me £400 and one front wing was made of caty. Taught me a lot that old motor, how to set points, plugs, dizzies, rockers, brakes etc etc.....great motor, you could jump in beside it and work on it.....

Drove it for 4 years and eventually the back diff locked and ripped the shoite out of the back axle.....off to the scrappers.....

Cant remember the amount of times I pulled in it, producer slips for the cop shop every time I went out in it..... mind you I had a firestick on a mag mount on the roof with a cub's tail on it.......the cops pulled me all the time!

My dad worked in Caterpillar in Uddingstone and he got me a pile of Caterpillar yellow spray cans, when it got too rusty we would rub it down, re primer it and coat it with the spray cans.....it stood out a bit!

1965 Mk 1 Cortina in 1975. Car was £95, insurance £91 ;)

Cheers, D.

That escort cost me £325 it was £600 to insure, my girl will be driving next year ( if she passes) what will that cost me I wonder?? Couple of grand fir first time insurance now ain't it?

Young lass next door to me, 17 year old passed her test last week and got a 04 reg. Punto.

Insurance is £990 and we are pretty low on insurance rates down here compared to most of the rest of the country.

Cheers, D.

I've said as long as she makes a contribution from what she earns from her Saturday job I'll make the rest up.... I reckon it'll be 90% of my money lol..
