  1. Took some rabbits to the local butchers. One of the guys asked me to show him how to dress it. Bearing in mind I' d already prepared all of them for the tray. Well, someone had dropped 3 off without paunchIng them so I was able to show him from scratch. To say the least he was stunned, cause when it was his turn, he just couldn't get the hang of it. Embarrassed would be an understatement, however, who was I to explain about an old Buck. The poor lad was mortified, and in front row of his boss. Kind hearted I was and explained all to him. Happy days.
  2. Holly is a real favourite. Straight as a die, when debarked is white as can be and hard as hell. Absolutely beautiful when highly polished.
  3. Not being funny pal, but are you sure that is hazel? Never seen it enlarge as it goes up. Looks more like blackthorn. Just my opinion.
  4. Well the bird Guys shouldn't be doing much harm but the long dogs might I guess. In all that area there must be a fair amount of woodland. These guys, as you obviously know, love broad leaf woodland with plenty of bracken and bramble. Even when stalking the things in a heavily populated area, Stanstead Forest, I found it difficult to spot them. It was only in a high seat, overlooking one of their motorways that I scored,. Twice. Strangely, we have seen more in rural areas of late. Industrial estates and the like. Can't really go whanging rounds in there.
  5. Could be good. It's only minutes away. Worth having a meet anyway. I've two empty hostels so wouldn't be a problem. Have they worked? Better idea of location LOL
  6. Where pal. I'm in Swadlincote. We do a serious amount of ferreting.
  7. Well well well. Cushy asking for anyone with ferrets in the Gloucestershire area and posting not seen any rabbits for a long time.nMust be wandering LOL. We are strived out with the things and running out of time. out of 29 weekend before last ( gaz post) 18 carrying well formed young. Out of 22 this weekend (gaz post) 14 carrying young. 2 does had given birth. No myxi and the rabbits were unusually big. Out again this weekend. See if we can improve. LOL
  8. Love to picture them but can't find the fckers. LOL
  9. Yep. Got two brothers who were born May 2015. They are as black or dark as I've ever seen. Next.
  10. 13 week breeding cycle. Do the math. Nobody but us to control the spread. Still think they are not in Liverpool.???
  11. I did some rabbit loin pies and the sauce was just from the cooking juices, Stilton cheese and a cornflower gravy. When I'd left it to cool it thickened up lovely. Just put my next batch of faggots in the oven. They are flying out the door. Most of the lads ans lasses haven't a clue whether it's traditional, rabbit, venison, pheasant, wood pigeon or whatever. They just think they're the business. My pal just text me that he has a load of partridge coming to my house tonight. Never ending this baking lark but it certainly keeps me out of mischief LOL. As if.
  12. A nice 22 rabbits this morning. No drama yet again. Quality size as well.
  13. Could be doing it then. Nice 22. Good big buggers as well.
  14. Flipping heck. My garage looks like an abotoir, 10 brace birds and 21 rabbits. My mate had the other one. Looks like a busy Monday morning for me.
  15. Well done. We went out with purse and long nets. Our netting must have been good cause only one in the long net and 21 in the purse . Not bad eh. 15, 29' 22, Sunday's.
  16. Ever wondered what happened to the pips in tinned tomato soup? I have. Made one the other day and there they were. Things
  17. Out again in the morning. Get some and I'll have a go with this.
  18. How right Paulus is. I doubt best part of the population would have a clue what it was if they see one. They are a very secretive little thing and if you aren't out at dawn and dusk then you will not see one. Given that they breed so often and so few people are shooting them no wonder the spread is increasing.
  19. Thing is this. This guy has used us. He has manipulated the conversation to meet his needs. I think this thread should be ended.
  20. Wasn't sure whether you meant me or ferretingnewbie. LOL
  21. Flipping great. You will never regret it and your kids will remember for ever. I went to do a marquee job the other day and the farmer asked me whether I still went ferreting. How the heck he knew that I'll never know but he gave me the perm. Must have done something right somewhere along the line.
  22. A very, very small Robin Hood tree.
  23. My kitchen smells fantastic. Next door looking about. He's getting it from the extractor. LOL
  24. To carry on. The batch I've just put in the oven 48, i've used venison cuts from the thing that was left in my porch LOL. My butcher thinks I'm mad, as do lots of folks, but the end result is what counts. Traditional faggots are great but with a twist they are even better. Also, unlike the butcher, I can play around with herbs etc to make something totally different. This batch. 4lbs belly pork. 2ilbs pigs liver. 2lbs venison (not rubbish) 1 larges kelsie onion, 4 large leeks. half a loaf of bread. Salt, black pepper, generous amount of sage, pinch of rosemerry and a pinch of mixed herbs. Gi
  25. Jocky. I have on numerous occasions but it just keeps filling up. LOL
